    What an absolute slam dunk of a trade I have no idea what Yzerman was thinking

      Either there is a weird falling out / red flag - or Stevie Y is lining up for some huge deal and shake up and just needed to clear a little cap and a roster slot.

      @@markarbanasin4 Yeah true. Hopefully no red flags we don’t know about. That can be the great thing about having a ton of cap space to weaponize. Can capitalize on teams needing to shed cap. Saw the coyotes do it a lot a few years ago and collected a ton of assets. Would love to see the sharks package a few of those up with the 14th overall and try and get into the top ten

    Mike Grier is on a tear with these moves lately. Very subtle yet each move is making us slightly better with little risk attached. Hoping to see a proven vet added soon.

    Grier did confirm that they'll move on from Calen Addison and won't re-sign the defenseman. Addison is an arb-eligible RFA.

    This feels like it's a round about way to do a 3 way trade between SJ, NYR and DET. Keep an eye out for any assets going from NYR to DET for "future considerations"

  • @prosperfireson

    Hey Professor,
    Wow! On paper this sounds like a significant move but, I would wait for the other shoe to drop because we know nothing in this world is free. While this definitely fits our need...it kind of feels like a 3 way deal. To get a quality defensemen AND a 2nd round pick? Something doesn't seem right.
    Either that or this guy has major off ice problems? It just doesn't add up. Why would Detroit give us what appears to be a solid NHL defensemen AND a 2nd round pick for future considerations? Its not like Detroit needs cap space and they are competing for a play off spot next season why would you weaken your team defense at least on the face of this deal that is what it looks like. Does not add up at all.
    You are right in that I think we will have to wait and see. I would be reluctant to trade Feraro away when we are striving to bring in decent NHL defensemen right now. Also, I think Greir has to bring in more defensive help because I think if we go through another season without significant imporvement he will likely lose his job unfortanately. I think he has to show significant improvement that will buy him another year.

    • @professorhockey
      @professorhockey  2 дні тому +4

      I don’t think they want to be as bad as they were this year. Grier is likely hoping the Sharks finish something like sixth last, still get a good pick at the 2025 draft, some improvement again in 2026 and then playoffs in 2027. That is my best guess anyway, whether they can accomplish this, or should even look to accomplish this, not sure.

  • @operasinger2126
    @operasinger2126 2 дні тому

    Excellent! Grier, please don't make any big mistakes. This team is still weak. Sharks still need another draft or two of high caliber talent. Good show!

    This must be a salary dump by Detroit, though they have other salaries they could have chosen to dump that might make better sense. Or is ti possible that this guy is poison in the locker room there? If not, it's a great deal for the Sharks - can't beat the price.
    I don't think Grier should use this acquisition to move on from Mario Fererrao, though. Their defense was so bad last year they can't afford to lose a credible top 4 guy. Given how long it sometimes takes for young D to mature, they really need to find at least one more solid veteran top 4 guy to round out the roster. Demelo just re-upped with Winnipeg...but Ekman-Larson is a UFA and ,having just won a cup, could he be gettable by a lagging team via overpayment now that he's got the cup on his resume?- The Sharks are certainly in a position to do that, and he'd be a great addition on the power play, which really needs the help. They can't go on using third-pair guys like Rutta and Benning in their top 4 while they wait for Thrun, Knyzov or Mukamedullin to come of age.
