Kucherov and Point are the future and really if not in 4 years then now is the time to start building around them. If this team doesn't make the playoffs for consecutive years fans will not show up. So the strategy is to not miss a beat and always keep the window open. What is unfortunate is that JBB gave out some big contracts with term the last few years to players that didn't necessarily need all of that. It's probably part of what is hindering the Stamkos renewal.

Did he really think Tampa's defense was going to improve by trading McDonagh in the first place? Perhaps Brisbois will sign Stamkos in the late hours, but I won't hold my breath. Tampa fans are all too familiar with the hall of fame caliber players getting unceremoniously dumped as they age. In terms of Saros, I used to be the same guy as many and worry about what it means for future… However, the reality is, Saros proved himself. It’s 8 years otherwise the cap hit would be near 10M. At this cap hit and stable performances from Saros they will be able to trade him out. But Askarov isn’t starter yet, he needs experience. I think great decision by Nashville. Stable tandem, and there always be Toronto which will need a new goalie every other year 🤷🏻♂️

Finnish defense is not very deep so Lindell is already a lock. Not to say he isn't good player, but out of these 24 for players he is only one who isn't a star player in your normal sense. Hintz would have been as obvious lock also so maybe they just wanted to go with 3 forwards and 2 d-man.

Stammer not retiring a bolt, all because they prematurely traded for McDonough should in all honesty be a fireable offense for Brisbose. A 6-7x3 deal should of been manageable, but he f'd himself trading for an old dman making 6.75. Resiging dumba for 3m would of been just as useful.

It seems that Brisbois prefers an aging McDonagh, who he traded, over Stamkos, a sure fire Hall of Famer and face of the Lightning. Did he really think Tampa's defense was going to improve by trading McDonagh in the first place? Ryan played a huge role in those Cups, and in my opinion trading him was a mistake, This, however, seems like a bad move. Perhaps Brisbois will sign Stamkos in the late hours, but I won't hold my breath. Tampa fans are all too familiar with the hall of fame caliber players getting unceremoniously dumped as they age. I'm bummed out over this scenario.
Also important to note that Nashville said they'll be looking for a new backup on the market and plan on starting Askarov in the AHL yet again. Hopefully he ends up getting moved because it feels like a lot of teams are not giving their younger goalies a chance even if they're probably ready to face NHL shots
Some team will inquire about Askarov at the draft, but if the Preds get too greedy, they backed themselves into a corner. Stalemate!

In terms of Saros, I used to be the same guy as many and worry about what it means for future… However, the reality is, Saros proved himself. It’s 8 years otherwise the cap hit would be near 10M. At this cap hit and stable performances from Saros they will be able to trade him out. But Askarov isn’t starter yet, he needs experience. I think great decision by Nashville. Stable tandem, and there always be Toronto which will need a new goalie every other year 🤷🏻♂️

Stammer in Vancouver could be a great get considering Guentzel is likely to sign in Carolina. Stamkos will be cheaper and I’d rather have him for 4 years @ $5M than Guentzel for 8 years @ 8.5M

As an American I fear that they won't choose Jaccob Slavin because he's all Substance no Flash him with Quinn Hughes is a dream. The Lightning have Serious cap issues, with only a little over $5mil available, barring a trade. Stsmkos won't do that home town discount; which then leads to the other top free agents, like Guentzel, etc. Will Stamkos be in limbo, awaiting other dominoes to fall? I would think so, despite his pedigree. Would hate to see the Panthers sign him.
The Hurricanes are an interesting conundrum. If they don't re-sign Guentzel, do they make a play for Stamkos? Alot of scenariios brewing.

The NBA draft trading system is 100% backwards. Between that and their 2nd rd taking place in a tv studio, the NHL outclasses the NBA with their draft by 10x.
Pittsburgh should sign Atkinson. I think he works out with Sid every off-season, so there could be some good Guentzel like chemistry there if Dubas can't get him back.
As a Tampa resident and Lightning fan. I'd prefer Stamkos to stay here. But at the same time, I think if he left, we'll survive. He's on the back end of his career. Yes he stil has some good years. But depends on the price.
Finnish defense is not very deep so Lindell is already a lock. Not to say he isn't good player, but out of these 24 for players he is only one who isn't a star player in your normal sense. Hintz would have been as obvious lock also so maybe they just wanted to go with 3 forwards and 2 d-man.
Wasn't Suter bought out by Minnesota few years ago? How much he makes from these two teams even if he would decide retire? Or is that cap penalty Dallas have to pay going to the NHL and not to the player?
Would love to see Stamkos on the Rangers if he comes in at a reasonable price. His grit and leadership role will be so helpful in a playoff run next year. I think Messier was 33 when the Rangers last won. Stamkos is now 34.

Like most Stars fans, not very sad to see Suter being bought out. His play last year was marginally better, but it is better suited for a younger player. Good career to say the least, but the contract was not good with Dallas. Hope Bichsel is ready at some point next year and Tanev can be resigned.

This I'd rather see as a Hurricanes fan. Losing Guentzel after finally going all in, would be a MAJOR gut punch. Stamkos would be a perfect fit for the Canucks, with a 4 year deal. Jim Rutherford isn't afraid to go that route, so stay tuned.
