  • In a league where it's so easy to write quarterbacks off if they're not instantly stars, you need stories like this. Bryce Young went from a phenom to a bust, if was left up to the sports world. He was never a bust. Appreciate him. Appreciate Dave Canales. Panthers fans, you have your QB1 and your head coach for the future. #sports #sportsnews #nfl #collegefootball #bryceyoung #davecanales #carolinapanthers

Bryce and Canales are turning our team into boring "sweet little Chrisitans" with zero swagger. If I was playing, I would say get me the heck off this religious nutjob team / locker room. He uses faith and God in EVERY SINGLE COMMENT TO MEDIA. It isn't cute and as a anti-god / religion person, I hate it.

Not to mention all the dropped balls by his WRs. If not for those Bryce numbers would be even better. And we win 3 of those games. I like where this team is headed.

    • @ericdunlap494
      @ericdunlap494 Місяць тому

We dropped (we, yeah right) 24 passes this year. WR, TE and RB combined. About 1.5 per game. Browns dropped 44 (most). Eagles dropped 7 (least). Three playoff teams had 32 drops. Cowboys, Bears, Cards, etc. had several fewer than us. Doesn't look like there's a correlation between dropped passes and on field success, except at the extremes (Browns and Eagles). If we had dropped zero passes, Bryce's completion rate would've gone up 6.2%, which isn't trivial but he would still be in the lower echelon of Comp%. I think it has more to do with which passes are dropped instead of how many. XL dropping the presumptive go ahead TD is more onerous than him dropping a 10 yd over the middle.

Great content from a Panthers fan! Thanks for this, I couldn't agree with you more! Some of the throws BY has made since he came back from his benching has blown my mind. He has shown that the talent is there, and the confidence is coming back! It was certainly knocked out of him last year and the start of this year.
As you say, his stats won't show how good he has been playing, but the one thing you didn't say was that Bryce Young is as tough as nails. That hit that you said when he lowered his shoulder got us a 1st down. One of the Panthers guards, Robert Hunt was miked up when he took that hit, and gave BY a lot of praise for it. Again, great stuff!

As much as many owe Bryce an apology, the sports media world hardcore owes the Panthers an apology. Mel Kiper, Rex Ryan, Rich Eisen, the entire The Facility desk among others never apologized to the Panthers for the teardown of the organization after benching Bryce, which was well earned and I, as someone who actually watched weeks 1&2 (unlike the aforementioned very obviously didn't) said.
Also the media immediately started demanding a Bryce trade and trying to speak it into existence, which I as someone who has watched enough football knew not to overreact and thought Bryce would have a chance to turn it around at some point and that trading him then would have been a terrible decision.
So the Panthers deserve a big apology that they haven't received from anyone outside of Ochocinco and McAfee, and Bryce deserves an apology from the overreactionary peeps online. Luckily I'm measured in my sports takes and don't need to take anything back. 😁
Great vid though, love you getting on peeps about that, there were a lot of people talking like Bryce would be looking for work at a temp agency come next offseason.

Absolutely bro. I was actually shocked because their front office has historically not made the best decisions post-Cam. So to watch this whole process from the outside was intriguing. Bryce has been a winner his whole life, but he learned a new lesson. I never turned on him, just wanted the best situation. As a Bama alum.

@ayejayhubb 💯 the truth. Rhule was awful when he took over, and got even worse when we hired Fitterer as GM to pair with him. I can only imagine that Fitterer stayed on last year to do the bidding of the owner. The best thing Tepper could have done was hire a promising young GM (Dan Morgan) and let him hire a promising young coach and reconstruct the roster, and otherwise f off, which is seemingly the case.
With Morgan and Canales, and not to mention long time Chiefs VP of Football ops Brandt Tilis, it's a brand new FO and should be treated as one. But it isn't, and the big guys on TV like to bring up not trading Brian Burns for two firsts in 2022, and trading him for less over this past offseason even though the leadership is vastly different, and the previous FO declined to pay the guy all of last year despite not trading and wanting to keep him. The previous regime didn't make a shred of sense, and need to get more flak than the organization itself.

@ NAIL ON THE HEAD. That Burns situation really hurt. But brighter days ahead for you guys. I’m just so glad the GM got Canales. Two things they need to do now is build the OLine. The defense. And maybe 1 more receiver. Lastly, have realistic expectations, DO NOT FIRE CANALES.

It’s important to not lower the bar too low for him. Until last week, his passer rating was even worse than last year. He only has one game of over 100. Caleb Williams has 6.
His turnover to TD ratio is just over 1:1
He’s only playing well good if you’re flexible with your definition of good.
    He has a top 10 O-line and a top 5 rb.
Out of the other QBs with a top 10 line, he has vastly underperformed the rest.
Amazing is just too generous a word rt now, even good is too generous given his stats and how good his line is.

Great NFL quarterbacks find a way to be successful in bad situations, mediocre and good quarterbacks will use their teams as scapegoats when things don't go well, and bad quarterbacks will be unsuccessful even in good situations. Bryce is somewhere in the mediocre to good range right now, although he's improved since his rookie season. At the position he was drafted, in the manner he was drafted, he is solidified as a bust - but he can still put an asterix by that if he develops into a great quarterback. He will never be able to redeem the fact that management spent so much on him because he was "NFL Ready" and that's not his fault, but is still the reality of his situation. If Bryce wins his first playoff game he will finally deserve apologies from some of the doubters... but until then, they're justified. If he never wins a playoff game, and until he does, fans are allowed to say whatever they want about him and there's really not much you can say to rebut it.
My opinion is still that he was a second round draft talent and the upside at that draft pick would have been really great, I'm waiting for him to change my mind about that, and I'm open to revising my opinion when he does

My friend, you are wrong. Really wrong. I never doubted him. He's a winner. Everywhere. When others were saying "he's too short, he's too frail, he's only 180 lbs". (Stephen A. for one). So what? He has talent, brains, winner's attitude. Was he bad in first two games of 2024? Oh yeah. Really bad. Would I have benched him? Not with just two games as the new HC. I told everyone that was selling him down the river "Just wait. Give him some time. He's learning. He's watching Dalton." And Dalton was mentoring him. What's the biggest difference? He rarely hesitates. No more patting the ball. No more happy feet. When his target gives him a little opening, he fires. And he remembered that he can run. He doesn't overdo it, but does it very effectively. Just like at Bama. VERY happy for Bryce. Good kid. Smart kid. Now his coach and team believe in him. Get a D and make this thing happen.
