after buying ONE Mist Hunter and seeing the upgrade cards, i immediately bought 3 more JUST for the upgrade cards. and yeah, the Tractor Beam cards went straight to my IG's. and the VERY FIRST shot with one let me tractor a fully loaded Tie Defender off the play area on turn 2! the expression on my opponents face was priceless :) it is also making the asteroids work FOR me for a change.
Thanks for the review - I think you do really great work when it comes to speaking and cinematography (not sure if that is the right use of the word in this context, but I'm going with it). I see other unboxing videos and usually have to stop it right away because of poor camera handling or speaking. I really appreciate excellence and your X-Wing Miniatures videos are very good. I'm still looking forward to the day when you'll review the huge ships. I especially appreciate your insight into combinations of cards to play with each other; so much so I've wondered if redoing some of the older videos because of recent game changing cards wouldn't be in order. I also wouldn't mind having a video/thoughts from you regarding strategy or your favorite lists to play. Regarding the Mist Hunter, I agree its a generic looking ship - though I kind of think it will be fun to use. That has probably more to do with ones' style of play. It's one of the reasons I love this game - it doesn't force you into a particular style of play. I'm not sure how much that translates to tournaments, but for casual 'I'm here to have fun', I really enjoy the variety and spending time rereading the cards looking for new ideas of combinations to try out.
I don't hold with scum and villainy, when I'm flying it's got to be for the greater good of the alliance! Having said that I love the videos and will watch any of your ship reviews. Keep up the good work.
I got my friend who plays Scum and Villany one of these for Christmas. Personally I think it's ugly as sin but he seemed to like it when we were in the shop.
I just realized how useful Zuckuss's abiity is against fat Han. It shuts down his ability to have a guaranteed evade since he has to guess 2 results. So it is insane
Fat Han still gets a guaranteed evade out of C-3PO - you can still guess "zero" even if Zuckuss forces you to roll two dfeense dice instead of one. You'll either guess correctly - and get a free evade result - or you'll roll at least one evade and maybe two if you're lucky. That's always the way Threepio has worked; you get the evade for guessing zero or you get the evade from the dice. Now, Wedge's ability or anything that reduces Agility like Tractor Beam - those will shut C-3PO right down since he doesn't work at all if you don't roll any defense dice.
Thank you for the overview and review of the ship and its cards. I understand that this video was posted a few months ago - that is, at a time before anyone had a chance to really fly this ship extensively - but I must say I disagree with your characterization of the G-1A as not competitive. Since I first bought this ship I have incorporated all of its pilots into a diverse array of Scum builds, making heavy use of 4-LOM (or as some say, 4 the Love Of Money) and his unique ability to draw opponents in and dump stress on them. He is indeed a whale, rolling just 1 green die, but he is more of an elegant whale than a slow whale - he deceptively draws his enemies in and then gives them his stress. It's like, oh yeah Soontir Fel? Arc-dodged behind me, eh? Well here's another stress token,[expletive]. Try pushing the limit next time, buddy. The movement dial is actually pretty good too, (same greens as a T-70) and the barrel roll you get from the Mist Hunter title helps you move around more unpredictably. Oh and that same title gives you a tractor beam, which you can use when you say, catch Soontir Fel off guard, double stress him and then beam him onto an asteroid, in the best case scenario making him roll a red die when you put him on it and then again when he flies off it. When flown well, this is an excellent and relentless control ship. And don't forget to try feedback array with the G-1A - if you and your opponent are in Range 1, you can take a damage (you have 8 health) to give a damage (Soontir has...3?). You have to take an ion token too, but this doesn't matter if 4-LOM has 3 health and our pal Soontir only has 1. Okay, I'm sorry. Enough picking on Soontir Fel. He's gotta be dead by this point. All told, this ship is a dynamic and balanced addition to X-Wing, and I plan to fly my G-1As for a long time.
All good points, and having flown against a few well-piloted G-1As since this video was made I do agree that maybe I was a bit harsh in my assessment. Although I think the state of the game has backed up my assertion that the star of wave 8 is clearly the JumpMaster, with the TIE Advanced Prototype behind it. I have seen some Jumpmastex2 lists with a G-1A backing them up doing pretty well in my area and I think it's gaining some traction in the wider X-Wing community as well.
I've seen a few people playing the cloaking device along with the stygium particle accelerator combo. Getting to cloak and getting a free evade! Im loving tractor beam on my Bs along with FCS! Quad Bs with tractor beam+FCS!
+Richard Herman - It's potentially a good combo, but if the Cloaking Device fails then you've got wasted points on the Stygium Particle Accelerator. It's risky, but the payoff could be good.
I was thinking of reading 4-LOM as Alom (Musk). The ship design isn´t very inspired, but i like how functional it looks. Bow seem alomst a little MiL Mi 24 "Hind" inspired.
Slow and steady with this ship. Just point it at targets and blast away, it's meant to be flown like a B-Wing; a heavy gun that doesn't care about taking a few shots.
The way I read the cloaking device is that if you roll a focus you can discard the card and decloak OR discard your cloak token. That or in there leaves some room for interpretation .
Take another look at the card. It says that if you roll a Focus result you must discard Cloaking Device, THEN either decloak or remove the cloak token. No room for interpretation there; the card is discarded before you choose how you want to decloak (either taking the sideways or forward movement or remaining where you are and simply removing the cloak token.
+The Cardboard Dungeon hopefully they clarify because this has ignited a bit of a fiery debate at my lgs lol. I think you're likely right but I hope not. It would be better if you just lost your cloak. Great videos. Thanks for what you do.
No need for clarification or debate, the card is worded clearly as is. It's a "Do this, then do this OR this" statement. The first "do this" is discard the card. It always happens on a Focus result roll. The either/or lets you choose to decloak following the standard decloaking rules or remove the cloak token. Whichever you choose from those two, the card itself is already discarded.
+The Cardboard Dungeon Oh yeah I see what you mean. I'll just go f*ck myself. Just something we had discussed during the store championship. Regardless it should make for some interesting builds.
I agree, the ship itself is so-so but the upgrades are great. Scum is my primary faction ( started playing about a month before Scum was released, still a newbie) and nearly all of these cards are great. I am also disappointed about the single Tractor Beam and Cloaking Device. Although it will be hard to not use Glitterstim, I think I will use Cloak from time to time.
That cloak could be great. It would definitely give the G1-A an edge over the B-Wing in survivability if you can get lucky with the rolls. Cloaking Device on Ruthless Freelancer might be pretty alright.
I think calling it mediocre is a bit harsh, I would rate all the pilots as good & I think with the title it's very good. With the cloaking device, I've had it drop off my first round so I think it maybe best to use it as a super evade although it maybe too risky to pair with Stygium Particle Accelerator.
+Alun Bridges - You're right. Mediocre is maybe a bit strong. I actually like this ship, but I think that if I'm going to build a competitive Scum list at this point in time, I'm either building dual IG-2000s or doing something with the Jumpmasters (either triple Scouts with upgrades or maybe pairing a loaded Dengar with a YV-666 or Firespray or something like that. I'm not sure that it has a place in a top tier Scum list. Maybe I'm wrong about that, though, it's early days still for Wave 8.
Great video, but I don't understand how you can equip tractor beam without the upgrade slot on the mist hunter pilot cards? The mist hunter card that adds the barrel roll to the action slot states that you Must have a tractor beam equipped does that mean i can just equip it because I "Must" or do I need upgrade cards from some other expansion to make this work?
+Demic - Yes, the text on the title overrides the core rules of the game. It allows you to equip the tractor beam even though the ship has no cannon slot.
What would be the benefit of lowering your pilot skill? The only thing I can really think of is a bomber type being able to move and drop mines in front of higher level ships. Can anyone else think of any ideas to decrease?
+53knights I've seen somebody consider it so all their pilots would be at the same skill level, allowing them to move and shoot without interfering with each other. And then bump the ship to higher skill when dealing with the pilot skill race.
+53knights yes because if an enemy ship bumps into one of your ships, it cant shoot at that ship this round. It can save you from getting blasted by a high damage ship for one round if you have low hull/shields.
+otaris2099 I absolutely wrecked my mom by using this strategy a couple of games ago. I kept putting my b-wing in the way of my mom's ship so it'd hit into my b-wing and so she couldn't perform the movements she needed. Meanwhile I was using poe dameron to skirt around her firing arch. It was great fun! lol
Cloak was kind of underwhelming for me. It's a unique card, so I can't have a swarm of cloaked Z-95s (not really a viable strategy, but something I really wanted to do) and you don't get any of the modifications that make it good for the phantom (stygium particle accelerator you can at least use if you have one).
+David Lukens - I like the Cloaking Device for what it repesents: a super risky, high reward Scum-only (at this point anyway) upgrade that could have a huge payoff or burn out immediately. If you want to be super risky you could also take Stygium Particle Accelerator. That combo has the potential to make some Scum ship incredibly hard to hit, but you have to be willing to risk throwing a totla of 4 points away on the chance that Cloaking Device fails early.
The expansion has some good cards but it is a shame that it is rolling into a meta which will kill it as soon as it reaches the table. It reminds me of the Star Viper expansion, People picked it up for the 2 autothrusters and you never saw the Star viper on the table again but autothrusters could be found everywhere.
+Maldus Alver - It's almost as if they do that on purpose (put the really good cards with the expansion they know will be the least wanted in a wave) :)
So is this the second scum ship where it's a must have because of the upgrades but the ship itself is mediocre? I remember the starviper expansion is pretty much the "Autothrusters expansion" But what other ships (And not even scum) fall into this role?
+flametitan100 Scyk interceptor, Khirax fighter, Starviper. I would actually say that the Star Viper isn't really bad, just that it's played only for its named pilots. Its generics are just really terrible. I would say that the scyk could see play if the title wasn't stupidly over costed. Really all of these ships are kind of overcosted or underpowered.
The M-3A Interceptor is generally just bad, over costed and with a worse dial than a Tie Fighter. The Khiraxz and the Starviper are mediocre, The main benefits of the Khiraxz is it's generally cheap and and good in a close up fight, but it is fragile. The Starviper is in a weird design place, because of it's action bar people think of it like A-Wing/Interceptor but it's more like scum equivalent of the Defender and E-Wing as the dial is alot weaker, if you fly it more like an X-Wing I think you'll have better success with it.
Alun Bridges See i've never really heard of the Khiraxz fighter being played (i don't get to play that much myself) but I've heard of the Starviper being played fairly often as a wingman to a hound's tooth. Not large squadrons of starvipers, because like you and I said, the starviper is a bit overpriced (or you could say it's under powered.) I wouldn't say that the Scyk is just outright bad, just that it is not top-tier. While it does have shields to negate the crits that kill ties, and it's pilot skill is higher on its base pilots...it is paying way too much for that stuff. But generally yes you're correct.
Sam Perry 99/100 Stavipers are run as the named Pilots Xizor/Guri for the more usefull abilities. The Kihraxz starts of 1pt cheaper than a rookie X-Wing, looses the 1 Forward and Hard 3's but gains hard 1's. Black Sun Ace at 23pt's has a EPT and PS 5 compared to no ept and PS4 for the Red Squadron Pilot.
Okay so we agree that most Starvipers flown are named. i guess if you wanted to build a list with rookie Khirarx (can we called these something new?) you certainly could. I'm still gonna say Z-95s are way more effiicient than scyks tho lol.
Uh... what? Is that a word I said in this video? It's been awhile, I don't remember. Only thing I can think of is I might be joking about nicknames for the droid 4-LOM. Like, Threepio, Artoo, Lommy. Sometimes I call BB-8 "the beebs." Don't judge me.

haha... "the droid bounty hunter who ISN'T IG-88"
that was brilliant!
Always enjoy watching your reviews!

Been looking forward to this review. Keep up the good work. Such a great game this.
I am seriously considering picking up two of this ship just so I can get more of those awesome upgrade cards.
4 LOM. He has it painted on his knuckles. It stands for "For The Love of Money".
favorite source for ship reviews

+Neil Robinson - Thanks! And have patience, the Ghost review is coming in the near future for all of the Rebel players out there :)
Thanks for the replys
Helpful and keep up the great vids
God I want this ship. And the Jumpaster 5000. Can't wait for your review on that big ol' baddie :D
+MikeymajQ - It's next!
My favourite use of the cloaking device is on Guri with stygium particle accelerator so you have 5 defense dice until you are ready to strike
I got my friend who plays Scum and Villany one of these for Christmas. Personally I think it's ugly as sin but he seemed to like it when we were in the shop.

He's number fourth in the Lom series of droids. Lom is the manufacturer, so ergo 4-lom.
The design of the Mist Hunter has existed at least since the Decipher CCG over a decade ago.
It is slow and clumsy, but I’m really looking forward to flying it. 4 shields, 4 hull, and 3 attack is very appealing to me.
It's basically Scum's B-Wing.
I've seen a few people playing the cloaking device along with the stygium particle accelerator combo. Getting to cloak and getting a free evade! Im loving tractor beam on my Bs along with FCS! Quad Bs with tractor beam+FCS!

zuckuss's ability works really statistically if you have focus and or target lock and they have no way to modify their evade results.
I was thinking of reading 4-LOM as Alom (Musk).

Bow seem alomst a little MiL Mi 24 "Hind" inspired.
Could you please do the Tantive IV review, I think you have not done it yet.

What's the best way round fly these I struggle on how best to fly ships
