      +iRO Chen they were getting better each season tho and all the players said Mark made them better players not saying Steve Kerr is a bad coach either because I don't think he is but Luke Walton only lost 4 games with them last season so their team is pretty good no matter who's coaching them

      Exactly, people talked like Mark Jackson hold the team down and prevented them from becoming good which is complete bullshit. During Mark's tenure, Warriors has just made first playoffs since 2007. They simply weren't ready. They faces teams like the Spurs and Clippers who were more playoff experience.

      @@gregviews no coach has ever won a championship without stars. How is pop the best in the league when he couldn't get his team into the playoffs? Still needs players and he'll be the first to say so. Also, just because you have the best players doesn't guarantee a win. The best coaches also know how to manage oversized egos of stars to make things work. Pop (and he'll be the 1st to admit it) wouldn't have the opportunity he had without Duncan being willing to be coached so everyone else had to fall in line. Kerr sees that with Curry. Phil got a 3peat out of Shaq and Kobe (these 2 definitely had egos that eventually broke the team but could have been broken earlier with a lesser coach) and MJ 2x.

    Kerr was in an era that restrained 3pt shooter. Maybe because the efficiency was not there. When Curry came along, he opened up the can of worm and let Curry freely shoot 3s. Credit Kerr for building the monster which changed the game.

    • @MondoRdr
      @MondoRdr 2 роки тому +4

      I doubt that Kerr was more of a influence than miller. Reggie Miller was the Seth of that day. The difference now is analytics more than anything else. In essence I agree with the notion that 3pt shooter were in shackles more. But not because of the efficiency. Just cuz those coaches were scared

      Ker is his coach though, I think you’re missing the point. Kerr is the one that allowed curry to play the way he is and set the game plan for his players to prioritize the three over most shots

      @@ShagishiDonis I literally pointed that out. Lol so no I didn’t miss the point. I was arguing that Kerr was an influence as a shooter to the next round of shooters. Basically if Seth curry was in the 90s, the lack of analytics and just being scared to allow shooters to just start throwing them up like they do now, it would’ve been shackles for the homie.

    You can see how the game has changed. Here Kerr speaks about the importance of setting your feet before even getting the pass, and the importance of passing accurately at the right time when the shooter is square in position. That used to be the basic rule, and it still is, on amateur level. But thanks to Steph, nowadays you can just pass the ball on the shooter's running lane (like football pass), he'll literally catch the ball himself and shoot. Not everyone can do it, and nobody can do it like Steph, hitting circus shots while still running or on single foot, but overall the very basic rules of passing and setting have changed, along with "good shot selection". Now if you give that setting space Kerr is talking about, it's a layup. Shooting drills have changed too. Players take three steps to the right, three steps to the left after each shot, and catch the ball while still in motion and practice shooting quicker.

      His shot never needed to be that quick with Jordan and Pippen getting all the attention, not to mention the fact that Rodman had to be boxed out, so Steve Kerr was wide open for a lot 3's, Curry on the other hand has to create space himself off screens or using his dribble, that's why he's the best 3 point shooter of all time, he's more like reggie 2.0 who had to do the same....Ray Allen had a lot of spot up 3 point opportunities too which is why Reggie is better than him and Steve Kerr, but Curry is better than all of them.

    Man was bult to be a coach. You can hear it in the way he's explaining it here with such a stoic demeaner. I'm not a Warriors fan at all. Infact I'm getting tired of their dynasty because I want to see other teams. But in a similar fashion to Brady Belichick, Kerr and Curry are just the most perfect tandem you could imagine. History in the making right in front of your eyes.
    Kerr is one of the best basketball minds the game has ever seen.

      It’s weird to see people claim Steve Kerr has the best basketball career of all time. He’s not yet the greatest coach, and he was a role player on a team with the best player of all time.
      He doesn’t have the longevity of Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach or Pop. He never had the skill or impact of Russell, Kareem, MJ, Bird, Magic, or even his own player Curry.
      He’s a great coach and I hope he goes down as a top coach in our history, but he’s not even a top 1000 player. The man averaged 6pts, 1.2 Reb, and 1.6 Ast in 18 minutes in his career. He still has less rings than Bill Russel who was a bigger contributor for all of his rings.
      Don’t disrespect Phil’s 13 rings, Bill’s 11 rings, or even the 5 rings Jordan gifted to Kerr.

  • @johncraftenworth7847
    @johncraftenworth7847 8 років тому +69

    I think the key to Kerr's all time best career 3 pt percentage is the ark on the ball, his shots weren't always the cleanest but the soft ark put in a lot of shots that hit a fair amount of rim. He also followed the ball with his eyes on the release, did not keep his eyes on the rim for the whole shot (and losing track of the ball for a lot of it's flight). I think that helps with feel and rhythm for each shot individually, it doesn't matter if you made the previous 5 shots or missed them all, every one is a unique shot and you totally forget about all previous shots with this technique. also as a bull, all the focus on jordan, pippen and in the paint gave him more wide open shots than some other great shooters had to deal with, like Mark Price, Ray Allen, Peja, Reggie Miller, etc.

It's not that hard to shut down the 3 if you stay on your man like glue and don't worry about the ball unless you're on the ball it's hard for them to get open.
