He listened to R&B and funk performers. He learned to phrase a song .

On pitch or not, no matter how many missed that notes, the thing that connects to the listener is the phrasing of the song. Playing piano is a similar thing, technical accuracy czn be developed depending upon how much natural talent the musician (singer or instrumentalist) has genetically biologically, but the emotional impact of a song and catching of a tune depends upon not just the writing of the words and notes but the way thev singer phrases the words. That ability to phrase a song to a large degree might not something one can teach. The best at it surprise us with something we respond to strongly and that thing is widely copied, the others can learn the tricks others have done. Micheal Jackdom was, we should say is a talented singer musician but we also need to recognize Papa Joe's influence. I refer to how the boys were seeing musicians jam and improvise and Michael could dance and sing like that because of rare confluence of natural talent and early exposure to very talented singers and instrumentalist and PapaJoe's harsh work ethic. The motherly love and religious influence alsoi probably kept ot from going off the rails. The work discipline and the natural talent and ability and early ecposure to such great musicians was a three for three. I am saying without all three, you do not get a Micheal Jackson. And a whole other topic is how Auinvy Jones and others gave their best effort to directing good material and resources towards Micheal's first album and without that being there at the just right time, you do not get a Micheal Jackson with multiple hit records but a talented singer lost on the shuffled pile of other talented folks.

Norman Gimbel wrote this song. Covered by Roberta Flack way before Lauren Hill. A gorgeous piece.

Roberta Flack came out with this in 1973 and I've always preferred her version. Though Lauren's is amazing as well.

I grew up on MJ. Watched the Jackson 5 cartoon on Saturdays. Billy Jean was the first song I danced to at club. Because of my age I also grew up on Elvis. The 2 of them were a huge part of my life. I will never throw shade on either. Both of their tragic far to early deaths broke me. Mj needed to break from Motown because they didn't let them pick or write their own songs. Once he did he exploded.
I'm requesting Marvin Gaye heard it through the grapevine. Also what's going on and sexual healing. We lost Marvin to young as well. His father shot him

I enjoy watching your reactions to different artists esp EXO. Could you react to one of my favorites Jim Croce’s Time in a Bottle. He is one of the great artists who is gone too soon.
