I was working in a nice part of Palo alto, which is close by. I got lost one night trying to get home. I somehow wound up in Atherton. I got pulled over by one of the many security cars. Luckily the guy told me how to get back home.
It is an incredibly swanky area.

I used to live in Menlo Park and would walk through Atherton on the way to work. There was a beautiful home 🏡 with lavender shutters and and lavender 💐 s near the front gate. It looked like a French Chateau- stunning and perfect.

Oh he forgot to mention that in night it’s dark as hell because the city has a law about outside lighting! Oh plus too many trees outside that it’s freaking creepy in night as well.
Driven through many times.... not that dark and there are a few streetlights .... so..... not creepy at all, unless unfettered wealth is creepy to you, which it should be. The price of housing is ruining the bay area, so don't be envious.... it's a shit show for normal folks.

Rich people don’t get their money from salary. I know plenty of CEO’s who get paid mandatory minimum wage here and even that, they give to charity. Beverly Hills is the highest place to live on Planet !!! The Mountain is past 1 Billion Dollars!!! The One is worth 500-700 million dollars and . The Castle is worth 400_500 Million Dollars.. but it doesn’t stop there. There are at least 10-20 Billion Dollar properties being built that aren’t finished yet either ....
I really wish this would’ve been a ‘top 5’ list of the most expensive zip codes in the US! I’d be far more interested in hearing the top 5 or even 10 in the US than just one that only has about 6,500 residents.

Wow! I had no idea - I thought it would be somewhere in Beverly Hills or New York City.
I lived in Palo Alto from the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s. Back then, the most expensive towns in Siilicon Valley were Portola Valley, Woodside, and Patty Hearst's hometown of Hillsboro. I think Atherton may have even had a bad part of town back then; I know Menlo Park and Palo Alto did. In fact, East Palo Alto was the murder capital of the US in 1988.
Living in Silicon Valley improved my finances, but not nearly as much as the place where I am now - the Big Island of Hawaii. How ironic!

In its ghetto days, the residents complained there were no large industries or banks (😂) there. (Like anyone would use an ATM in East Palo Alto!). Sun Microsystems (now defunct) decided they had a point, and set up a branch there. Other companies decided to take advantage of its inexpensive property. This drove up taxes to the point where the residents could no longer afford to live there, so they sold their bungalows at an astronomical profit and moved to the South.
The last time I was in East Palo Alto, I couldn't recognize Whiskey Gulch. The liquor stores and gas stations had been replaced by an industrial park full of high rises.
It goes to show, be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it!
