From what I can tell Porsche Unleashed is arguably the most underrated game in the entire NFS franchise. Especially since it actually is somewhat close to a sim as opposed to the arcade-like physics of most NFS games.
I think this is the only game I actually ever finished with a steering wheel and some pedals.
It's an underrated gem, looks fabulous, epic soundtrack.

This was like a game, and a history lesson. And that's why I love it. I feel like I learned so much Porsche history from this game. Every manufacturer should have a NFS sim like this that doubles as a history lesson.

I am there.. I am die hard fan of this music since my adolescence.. When my brother would play this game.. And I would be there just for hearing this music.... This music was being played while checking cars and it's view inside out... 😊

+Rathouse21 Have you tried NFS Undercover? The physics are as realistic as Porsche unleashed, aside from the cat effect (flipping over and landing right side up, lol). You can even fine tune your handling by adjusting your tires and suspension, and there's several Porsches in the game.

I'm really annoyed by how everyone forgets NFS Shift 1 and 2. They were great games and basically the predecessor to Project Cars. They might not have been a good pick for the Need for Speed name but that doesn't make them bad games. For me they were the perfect middle ground between simulation and arcade.

This game has been with me long before I could read. I remember the days when my father would play it with me before we got to sleep, the sheer exhilaration of launching the game and hearing the lightning blast, mixed with a tiny bit of fear characteristic of a 4 year old. I remember imagining the AIs as real people, Stellar, AJ, Dylan, Parise and others as fellow racers. Countless hours in quick race since I still couldn't read the game modes, cruising on the Côte d'Azur, dreaming of a days when I could become a racer myself. My lonely self associated cars to people, and sometimes pretended to have a discussion with them. Soon, Porsches became my definition of a true car. I compared whatever car I saw on the streets to Porsches from different eras, my ignorant self comparing my father's old rusty Toyota Corolla to a 944.
Since then, I have long grown out of this phase, but this game made me who I am today. My favorite cars are undeniably Porsche, with my favorite model being the 993 Turbo S, the fastest car you could initially drive on quick race. Years after last playing this game, whenever I was faced with a faster, more powerful car in any game, I would think to myself "Oh, he's driving a Moby Dick isn't he?" Before realizing the Moby Dick wasn't in NFS World. This game cast my dearest childhood memory and ignited my passion for cars.
Hearing this soundtrack again brings me home.
Excellent game. Even now. Period.

The PC version was literally a completely different game. I remember getting a Playstation at that time, after playing it on PC, and being utterly confused at how the only thing that was similar between the two titles was the title itself and that they both had a bunch of Porsches. The console version was dumbed down quite a bit.
Rene Hourian PS version was really fun game too, but it was more arcade, than PC version.

The PS Port of NFS Porsche was a reskinned V-Rally 2.
I prefer PS1 version. PC version driving is so stiff and lacks pursuit mode and split screen.

The fucking Era boss races were basically the perfect run in a racing game; I never beat the Era 1 end race with the Porsche Spyders

I found the era one to be really easy but Golden Era got insane
Driving Fkin Porsche 914 Challenge was hardest in the game. It was all about 914 or 959 which both was bricky af and You couldn't just got enough acceleration in Corsica XD

Aaa NFS 5! With Schwarzwald backwards -> a true car wrecking course in career mode! I always had to pay tons of cash to repair a carbon fiber body after crossing the finish line. Or maybe I was just a bad driver, lol!

I think Schwartzwald is the most difficult track, it requires amazing skill

If you want more music in this style, listen to The Crystal Method. Their first album "Vegas" is in very much the same style as NFS4:HS, while their later albums are more like the other NFS games (Porsche, Hot Pursuit, etc).

Man I remember the time when even Fifa 2002 had a great breakbeat/trance/dance soundtrack. EA was a household name when it came to gaming, no matter the genre. Nowadays they are just a microtransaction greedy company that they would slap the word remake on a piece of junk to begin with. It's just sad.
Well, at least I have this sound track to console me since I can't buy a digital copy of NFS Porsche to play on my Win10 without patching it through duboius websites. This should have a remake. NFS III Hot Pursuit should have a remake.

This will forever be, the greatest soundtrack for any NFS version, and the sheer joy I got driving through those scenic beauties like the Pyrenees, cote d'Ivoire. :) Man, something went in my eye. :')

I still love this game and soundtrack to this day!! Had it for Playstation originally, but then I got it for PC, and this game was what got me hooked on PC gaming :)

That's the atmopshere I like most of all. Underground grand tours over european landscapes. None of that street racing urban bullshit. Only driving. And this music adds another dimension to that expierence. As far as I like GT5, its smooth jazz makes it sound like a cheap porn or as if I'm in a supermarket... NFSPU got all ingredients right.

Man these retro Techno songs still rock I like to just jam this out and play need for speed carbon. But the more I listen to these songs it just shows how game Soundtracks have evolved over the years they seem to be getting more forgettable . I mean the most recent Soundtrack that stood out to me in the way of being right for the game and helps set the mood was Doom

games back then had soul man... The music from this game goes perfectly cruising in a Porsche, High stakes and Hot pursuit had rock and trance music that went perfectly when racing and getting chased. Even Diablo 2 for example has truly atmospheric music and huge amounts of effort went into small places. So sad that now a days games are just made for money and not as a revelation.

When I was a kid I always loved playing this with the classic Porsche 356 with the banjo style steering wheel. I don’t have a Porsche 356, I am restoring a 64 MGB roadster. Not the same as a Porsche, but it does have a similar style banjo steering wheel. When it’s finished, this will be the first thing I listen to while I drive it. At any rate, I always wanted to drive around in a classic European sports car. Dreams can come true, kind of.

90s electronic music goodness. Although thd game came out in early 2000, I'd imagine most of the tracks are from ~late 1999. Regardless, the OST is a masterpiece. RU Ready probably being my favorite of the bunch, but the other tracks are just as awesome.
