    Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this UA-cam channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

We we're watching with real interest and we are driving across Kazakhstan from the UK as part oF.a crazy adventure we are planning. Great vlog - cant believe you managed to cram so much in, in just one day. Looking forward to the next one - Chris & Marianne 🙂 🙂

    It’s amazing to see that you guys finally made it to my birth town! I haven’t been back there in 15 years, and I am so happy you enjoyed yourselves. It’s a beautiful place full on nature, history, delicious fruit and veg, and one the most generous people I’ve ever met in my live.
    Kara, what you ate at the market is called ‘Lagman’, and it’s pretty traditional. It is still my favorite dish from my childhood, and it brought back so many warm memories. 🙌
    Amazing video and hope you get to visit Kazakhstan again and stay there for much longer next time.
    P.S not everyone in Kazakhstan eats horse meat...it’s just a choice. Trust me, it doesn’t taste as bad or ‘special’ as you might think 😊

      I would love to visit Kazakhstan as I have a very personal connection to the country, but I am also scared because if I do go there, I will never turn back! Let it be your lesson of how awesome the county really is! 😉

    You guys had Lagman noodles in the market. It is a Turk dish and they have it in XInjiang (North-West China), Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan and probably in the other 'Stan' countries. It is super delicious as you both found out! We got to try some horse meat in Kyrgyzstan last year at our couchsurfing host's place in Osh. She had cured horsemeat, a bit like Jamon Serrano in Spain and it was actually pretty tasty! Really looking forward to your upcoming videos as we were supposed to have hitchhiked to the World Nomad Games but cut it our trip short in Azerbaijan and flew to SE Asia instead. Lagman is served all over central Asia. I'm fairly certain it's origin is actually the Chinese beef noodle soup called La Mian or Lamen. Which by the way was also the origins of Japanese Ramen soups, though the Japanese over the centuries substituted pork for beef.

    For anyone interested, Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan. Almost everyone there speaks Russian but Kazakh is the official language. The guard asked them for 1300 tenge to get to the lake. Also the lake where he said we got drinking water is actually for showering, ect. In Kazakhstan you can't drink from a tap, the water isn't the cleanest and has chlorine in it.

    The water color reminds me of YT videos, from RVers of Alaskan lakes. Where the water is running off of mountain top glaciers. And the flat sandy area with the creek/river looks like an old glacier bed. Uber driver was a savey business man. Why dead head it back to town, when you can take a nice break/nap and get paid to drive back. Hotel probably gets a cut of that $50 for the taxi. That's the way it works, even in the US. That's how certain night clubs get all their business, kick backs.

    • @maladetts
      @maladetts 5 років тому

      Lvov is occupied by literal Nazis, glorifies and cosplays them on every corner, and is reeking of Nazism.
      NOT RECOMMENDED for anybody in their right mind, at least till its liberation and a second Nuremberg trial (where Khristina would probably be prosecuted as a collaborator).

    • @KhristinaL85

      @@maladetts no offense, but I have been to Lviv and not Lvov multiple times. No Nazis and no Nazism in that city and it is super welcoming. 90% of the population speaks English, so it is super easy to explore. In regards to prosecution - no one prosecuted anyone there for CENTURIES. So, before you make these type of comments I would recommend for you to get a ticket and go visit.

      How is it not Lvov, when it is. "Lviv" is a strictly Ukrainian spelling, yet you wrote "Ukraine" NOT in Ukrainian right afterwards, so you might as well just be consistent in your Ukrainian nationalism.
      It's really hilarious how you dare lie so cynically right to people's faces about , while Lvov is literally the proud capital of Ukrainian Nazis. They LITERALLY wear Nazi uniforms in that city in broad daylight. They do church services and even funerals in that uniform. They do Nazi marches with torches at night and cosplay WWII Nazi collaborators marching during the day right in the streets of that lawless city. Their cafes and restaurants are openly Nazi-themed, a waiter wearing a Nazi uniform will greet you at the entrance. They openly sell Nazi-propaganda books right in the middle of their streets. In Lvov schools, mad Nazi ideologists, like Ms. Farion, would enter classrooms and start intimidating little kids into rejecting their non-Ukrainian NAMES and their ethnic heritage, filming that on camera.
      Nazi murderers, who've been killing women and children of the Donbass region for four and a half years now, force civilians of the Lvov region to KNEEL in the mud on the side of the roads during their funeral processions, honoring dead Nazi war criminals. They openly glorify Nazi thugs back from WWII honoring them as their heroes. They erect MONUMENTS to those war-era murderers and force KIDS to stand guard by those monuments in their little Nazi uniforms. They've DEMOLISHED all of the WWII monuments dedicated to those who fought and defeated Nazism. They put a BAN on the Victory Day over Nazism and persecute and beat up those few old veterans who were fighting Nazism and are still alive. Instead, they openly honor their surviving counterparts, the Nazi collaborators during WWII, proudly marching them around the streets, praising them, greeting them with flowers and decorating them with fake Ukrainian-nationalist "medals".
      Currently, in the Lvov region and nearby cities they've issued an OFFICIAL BAN on the Russian language and the Russian "cultural product".
      This is in full swing now since 2014 when the Nazis came to power in Ukraine, yet Lvov had been famous for its Nazism well before. And you put on a poker face and, throwing all shame aside, say how there's ??! Well, you've definitely shown your true colors.
      While all of this is so easily searchable even right here on UA-cam, for anyone who, by some miracle, still doesn't know about this.
      And you're confusing the words "persecute" and "prosecute". PROSECUTE means "punish by law" and "bring to justice". This is what needs to be done to all Ukrainian Nazis and their loyal little servants.
      Now if you speak of PERSECUTION, it's even funnier how you would say . Despite what's been going on there just in the last 5 years alone, and all the years before that starting with the breakup of the Soviet Union, NOT SPEAKING of all the most brutal war crimes of Ukrainian Nazis in Lvov and all of Western Ukraine, as well as nearby Poland and Belorussia, during World War II that happened just in the middle of the TWENTIETH CENTURY. This is just astonishing how someone like you can deny even that, just completely erasing even WORLD WAR II from their mind, and not even be ashamed about it one bit!
      And this is exactly what they do to kids and young people in Lvov.
      And naturally, this Nazi den has to be cleaned out first, before anyone sane can even go there.
      And portraying open Nazis and barbarian war criminals and murderers who attack and humiliate veterans, demolish monuments, kneel people down, march with torches, walk around with guns, beat up people for the "wrong"-sounding name or the "wrong" language, gang up on anyone in military-style squads right in the middle of the street in broad daylight, and who issue an OFFICIAL BAN on your whole ethnicity and culture - as "super welcoming"?!?! And as "90% English speakers"??! Are you kidding?

    • @KhristinaL85
      @KhristinaL85 5 років тому +1

      @@maladetts "Lviv" is the international spelling of the Ukrainian city. "Lviv, Ukraine" and not "Lvov, Ukrainian" - because no one names a geographical location with possessive. Everything else that you have mentioned in your comment is a wonderful brainwashing you received through the media. As a person who loves traveling and learning about cultures enjoyed my trip there, same as I enjoyed trips to Poland, Czech Republic, United Kindom, and Germany. And as a person who travels, I never felt unsafe in the city. But you can go ahead and continue with your remarks because it honestly would not stop me going back and visiting Odesa and Kyiv on my next trip.

    12:00 Lagman is a local Central Asian adaptation of the Chinese Lamian (拉麵; “pulled noodles”); much like the Japanese Ramen, it has its origins in China. The Korean Ramyeon shares the same etymological root but in Korea the term is used to refer to instant noodles instead of freshly pulled noodles. You guys should definitely learn the Cyrillic alphabet, it helps a lot to know how to read the Cyrillic alphabet not just when you travel around in Central Asia but also around Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Mongolia, Serbia, FYROM, Bulgaria etc.; so at least you’ll know what you’re ordering

    Еще западный Казахстан к каспийскому морю)
    В восточный Казахстан, к озерам и горам, сосновый бор, реки)
    Северный Казахстан к озерам, лесу, и горам)
    В южный Казахстан, по Святым местам, фрукты и шашлык)))

    The Noodle dish you had looks like it could have been Lagman. It's originally a uyghur dish from China.
    The uyghurs are a Turkic minority belonging to a clan named Karluk, which again is the same clan as Uzbeks.

    Триста (300) is three hundred in Russian! The Uber driver spoke Russian with you! :)) And the meat you ate on the metal skewer in this party is called shashlyk (шашлык - rus) and it's the armenian or georgian food but the whole Russia, Baltic countries and apparently Kazakhstan enjoy this meat in the parties!!

      Не совсем будет правильным причислять жареные кучки мяса на вертеле только к странам кавказа. Да и название шашлык по происхождению тюркское. Хотя большинство тюркоязычных называют на персидский лад кебаб

    Horse eating is taboo in US. Hmm that was something new. Didnt know that. Nice videos. Sad that you only fly and use uber everywhere.. Travelling by land is so much nicer and its allways experience use local public transport. Almaty is nice city, Bishkek is weird and very soviet but people are so nice there!
