    We've seen so many bands born during the punk years, drifting and drowning...Wire keeps their standards high...intact sound, genuine spirit...Rarely seen a band keeping up with such consistency and quality...A lighthouse to me of a certain era...influence for others underestimated band by so many ways

    Hyperbubble were in the audience at this show, and man!!! ...Wire were so very very very very excellent. Thank you for the memento! It looks and sounds good. Who would have imagined this event would have ever happened? One of the best bands ever, all the way from London, live in Marfa. The show was great, and so are you for sharing your video.

      @Cameron Rekunyk I believe in the early 80s they catergorically decided to never play their back catalogue. I think we should be grateful they reneged on this. Also, they have so much music that is not their 70s work.

    Kool Version of "AHead"..."WIre"..inadvertently incredible improv. Artist ...much like a Biologist inserting alien cells into pre-existing stem cells.." that is their approach..and their genius

    Why don’t they play much of Pink Flag, and I want to know what albums these songs are off, so if I see them, I can listen to the songs and know them.

      They very, very, very, very rarely play early material, or even material from more than a couple of albums back. Since the early days, Wire have always been about evolution -- they don't wish to look back, but to keep moving forward from album to album.
      For a while they actually had a cover band play the hits from PF, CM, and 154 as their opening act, before they played.

      Lots from Wire's most recent album "Silver/Lead". HIGHLY recommended. It's astonishing that the band are at the top of their game this many years on, as evidenced by this album

      I hear you on the Pink Flag. They do actually play it, once in its entirety because its so iconic. However..... The Ideal Copy (1987) is one of the best Wire albums. Bruce Gilbert has said in interviews that it's his favorite.
      Songs from that album are at the start and end of this set. Wire has always demonstrated mastery of rock band irony, by defying expectation. They finally got around to playing Ideal Copy songs again after more than 25 years of not doing so at all. At this point (in 2017), it was right when anyone, even mega Wire buffs such as myself, had given up wishing for it. Ha ha!

      I've seen them live and thought they were fantastic. Robert Christgau, who's probably seen thousands of shows, noted that the 2002 show supporting Send was the "best rock show I'd seen in years." So you've your opinion; everyone's got one.

      I agree, I saw them earlier this year and they were incredibly boring. I don't mind that they don't play all the 'hits', in fact I respect that they're playing their new stuff and stuff they want to play. The thing I didn't like was their lack of enthusiasm - audiences feed off the energy of a performer, that doesn't necessarily mean they have to be playing fast punk rock or hardcore to feel enthralled, it means that they have to have passion when performing live, which Wire did not. Apparently in the 70's they were one of the most fantastic live bands you could see.

    Ugh, Wire's mullet habit. Colin looks like Graham did in 1982. And that's not good.

    Decades in the game and staggeringly average.

    • @Rutlefan
      @Rutlefan 4 роки тому +2

      Who do you prefer? IOW, who isn't "average" today? Choices today seem sparse to me. I like Fat White Family and The Joy Formidable (at times); who am I missing that's better than what Wire has been doing the last fifteen or so years (from Send on)?

      I was deeply regretting not being able to attend their concert a few months back, but this sounds very flat to me. Maybe it's the recording...?
