Steam a seam is a miracle from above!! I use it for so many things. I have tremors and it makes my sewing life so much easier and fun again! I am also happy to see that a major manufacturer has changed their instructions for how to put in a zipper. This way is so much easier than the old method and now many more people will approach zippers with a smile instead of an "OMG"!! Thanks for the great video!
And I'm saving your centered zipper application video here for future use. You did an excellent job explaining and demonstrating how it is done. Thank you for that.
Learn something new every day. Or a bazillion things, in my case. I have been sewing for 50 years and never knew about the curve on the zipper package! Also never knew about the interfacing. I have a bunch of steam a seam from an auction years ago where a quilt shop stock was liquidated. Never knew how to use it or where. It's amazing to me what a beginner I am after sewing consistently for so many years. I do my zippers similarly but not exactly the same. It's just what I was taught back in 4-H - but the first time I learned about using a seam ripper with the ball up was in removing the basting from a zipper. I like invisible zippers but I hate putting them in because of all the trouble of changing the feet. Regular ones are way easier!
I have watched this several times and finally decided to write the directions down step by step. Now I have them handy when I need to put in a zipper! Your directions were better than Glenda’s, from sure fit designs. She didn’t use the interfacing!!!
I have never clipped along a zipper line. Thanks for explaining zipper opening. I've never met Steam a seam. Thanks for introduction. Ive never used interfacing on a zip, I am going to start. I have a ton of thrifted fabrics....Not sheets. I like your method. I used MANY used/recycled/salvaged zippers when I started sewing. I thought that was normal. I prefer to unzip the top of the zipper a few inches to get past the teeth.
This is a game changer for me. I sewed my first buttons and button holes this weekend and nearly gave myself a stroke. The shirt looks like I made it!!! BUT I finished it and sweet hubby said it looks great. Thank heavens love is truly blind because the shirt look horrible but I know he will wear this weekend. So the thought of sewing a zipper was of the charts but I'm going to give it a try this weekend. I have a ton of zippers (cheap ones from wish) and scrap fabric to practice on. I just need to pick up the interface and the seam tape today. Thank you for making this video.
Very good advice here, and I learned something new. We were taught a different way for the top stitching in Home EC. This makes sense. If you sew down one side and up the other there is a chance of getting puckers because you sewed two different directions. Sewing up from the bottom on both sides would lessen you chance of getting puckers. Thank you.
You are very welcome. Try a fake garment with a short zipper. They are cheap. Just cut out two squares of cotton fabric and put the zipper seam in them. Once or twice should do it! Keep your sample.
Joy Bernhardt invisible ones have been removed from my sewing after a horrid accident in public with one that broke 🤦🏻♀️. Centered ones are the one I use 100% now, unless it’s a fly front :)
Thank you joy. You are too generous with your knowledge and time. Zippers are one thing I can’t master so when Viv says she doesn’t need one I love that. I’m going to try your tips❤️🎃
I cannot believe all the tips you just showed us.Thank you.I just finished a sewing 3 class and that instructor never mentioned the tips you just used, Wow and thank you . I love your tutorials
Joy, Joy, Joy. I love you. Thank you so much for this tutorial. It's the best one I've ever seen for putting a zipper into a piece of clothing. I have bought zips from Amazon but mine are in a bundle and therefore not in individual packets with no instructions. After watching your tutorial, my fear of putting a zipper into a garment will disappear. I can't wait for my next project with a zip in. You are brilliant at explaining things. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. x
Well...when I saw you were going to show a zipper installation I immediately thought I would just skip to something else... since I am such a great zipper put er inner ..LoL. Not. So glad I watched this ...your way is so much better than mine 😍😍 Thanks Joy..as usual you are the Best 🤗🤗
I use Steam-a-Seam all the time but never thought of using it for zippers. I learn something new everyday. Zippers are definitely better than button holes! Thanks for the great tutorial
You are always a joy to watch. Thank you for the zipper tutorial. I always avoid putting in zippers. Now that I understand how to put them in. I don't have to leave them out. Great tutorial.Have a Blessed day, you are such a blessing.
Joy Bernhardt the top in the latest video at the beginning has a kind of colourwork . I’ve seen the graphic black and white top , which has a fantastic fit.
Beautiful fabric. Never knew about the packaging with the pants template. Old sewer and you taught me something new again. Your top is very pretty on you. Take care
Great work on your tutorials! I'd love to see more skills. Your attitude makes learning the skills seem easy and no big deal. Great for newbies who might be worried.
I didn't know that curve was on the package, if it was there, I never noticedit. (Nothing gets past me, lol). I have always put the zipper in while it is closed. That's how I was taught many years ago. I will give this way a try. Must get some steam a seam for sure.
Just found your channel today, so so glad I did. I’m just starting to sew again after many years. You are an awesome instructor. Love that fabric, where did you purchase it?
Your cuts in your fabric are so clean - do you use a rotary cutter? When I use scissors to cut knits I can't help but making it all ragged. If you use a rotary cutter what size and brand please.
Hi Joy, I just discovered your tutorial for putting in a centered zipper, and loved it. I bought a couple of zippers by Coats and Clarks, and discovered that they no longer include the directions that you show in the new zipper packages. I was so disappointed! Is there any way I can get a copy of these directions? I tried screem grab. bit too blurry. Hope you can help. Would be so much easier to have these directions by my machine.
We just got a hobby lobby. I am sooooo disappointed. They have very minimal garment fabric or notions worth anything. They have quite a bit of quilting cotton. The store is massive so I don’t understand. Our Joanns is terrible also. They are about 75% fleece even in the summer.
I sure do agree about Joann's. Mostly fleece and craft stuff, and NOBODY there knows how to answer questions. Help is constantly changing there. I help other customers find stuff and explain things to them. I feel sorry for newbies.

You are a good teacher, I have been sewing since I took home economics in school, and I am 66 years old, and I still learn something from you.
Great zipper tips with interfacing and steam a seam. I never knew about the cardboard shaping. Thank you
Joy this was a great tutorial. I saved fir future reference. I did not know about the curve in the package. Keep making tutorials. Thanks!
Thank you Joy for the lesson! I sewed along with you and my zipper is perfect! Love your channel!

all the zippers, I've ever done, never knew that the curve for the pants zipper was there. Great tutorials, please keep them coming!
Same here! I never knew about the curve!
I never knew about the zipper curve either. Been sewing since Home Ec Grade 7 and I'm 72 next month.
Thank you so much, Joy!! I have never been able to put in a decent zipper. You give such wonderful tutorials I now have hope to be able to do this.

@@Joy4650B Great idea. Thank you!
Yay 😀. Regular Centered zippers is where ITS AT. Love them and use them all day, everyday.
I know. The other kind always leaves a little pleat at the bottom. It is a shame people are afraid to try. I need to do invisible next. Yikes!
Joy Bernhardt invisible ones have been removed from my sewing after a horrid accident in public with one that broke 🤦🏻♀️. Centered ones are the one I use 100% now, unless it’s a fly front :)
“You, the lady in the back....” Oh Joy you crack me up!! I cackled for 10 minutes.😆🤣 Thanks so much.💫🎃🎃

I cannot believe all the tips you just showed us.Thank you.I just finished a sewing 3 class and that instructor never mentioned the tips you just used, Wow and thank you . I love your tutorials
I know what you mean. I've learned more on UA-cam than I EVER learned in a class on anything.

Love the tape on top. Great idea. I never get the top stitching right. Thank you Joy.

Joy , thank you , you make a great teacher. Please show us the complete print of your top in your introduction.Very pretty on you.
I wore the same top in the video prior to this one. I bought it at Belk years ago.
Joy Bernhardt the top in the latest video at the beginning has a kind of colourwork . I’ve seen the graphic black and white top , which has a fantastic fit.
Well I’ve been doing it wrong and the hard way for a longtime! Thanks so much for that very clear explanation!
Beautiful fabric. Never knew about the packaging with the pants template. Old sewer and you taught me something new again. Your top is very pretty on you. Take care

great way to do a zipper
Just found your channel today, so so glad I did. I’m just starting to sew again after many years. You are an awesome instructor. Love that fabric, where did you purchase it?
The fabric is from Fabric Mart Fabrics. They may be out of it. Fabric flies out of there!
Your cuts in your fabric are so clean - do you use a rotary cutter? When I use scissors to cut knits I can't help but making it all ragged. If you use a rotary cutter what size and brand please.

That is AWFUL. Why would they remove the instructions. Email me at Bernhardtjm50@gmail.com. I will send you a picture.
Hey, where did you find that chalk pencil thingy?? I like it.
I use the Frixion heat eraseable markers. Amazon has them.
@@Joy4650B Thank you so much Joy, hope you have a Blessed day, Linda

And Joann’s seem to have the market cornered on Ugly fleece!
