As always, your explanations are crystal clear and easy to follow. I can't wait to see what other topics you'll cover in future videos! Love from India❤❤❤
I find it a bit confusonf that the hda saus "Group" but you are selecting by attribute. You could create a group per each shop_material anf asign the prims to that group? So if @shop_material=jacket, then create i@group_jacket=1? That would also help with visualization, as you can select by prim grouonon the viewport
Yeah you're right, I should have shown that too. I actually did create those prim groups, I guess during recording I thought it was a good idea to use the materialpath attr, which is translated into material slots when you export the geo with these attr to other 3D apps. But I should have shown both ways of selecting the geo in the video.
THat's a hard question. Houdini is HUGE, if you were to pick a topic and focus on that it shouldn't be too long. But that also depends on what u focus on. Some of the simulations have been improved and made SO MUCH easier today by SideFX and it's easier to use overall. For example FLIP SOP tools have been it significantly easier, if u wanted to be an expert on that and u put in a fair amount of hours everyday, I think u can become an intermediate in a few months with ease. But again it's putting in something everyday, which is the hardest part because we all have a life and stuff happens.
I have a lot of tutorials teaching building HDA's, but it's usually covered with another topic, I don't have a dedicated tutorial to just building HDA's. And usually it's about procedural generation, cuz that's really popular. The lop/solaris, there isn't much to it, just that I made this Karama HDA cuz I got tired of redoing the same setup again and again.
@@tomallen5837 I may consider creating maybe a cheap course dedicated to creating different types of HDA's, since the focus audience would be a very small group of people. What do u think? I would love to hear ur opinion, is that something u personally would b interested?
@@JorgeIvanovich I tried searching for the face set node, but couldn't find it. I even asked the AI and there was a face set node in Solaris back in 2022, but for some reason I can't find it now. I wonder if SideFX renamed it?
@@bubblepins On the SopCreate in LOPs, just go Import Data -> Subset Groups -> [select which groups to import], and you'll have them in the scene graph path, and you'll be able to assign materials with the materiallinker etc. They need to be primitive groups, though.
There should be a Join button beside my channel name right under the video, but some people have been telling me if you're not in a UA-cam supported region, you won't see it. I am considering posting this HDA onto Artstation for better distribution in the future. Hope that helps!
Yeah a few people requested for this, it's taking so long to create a video for cuz SideFX has these new SOP Fluid nodes that I haven't made a tutorial for yet and I like to be comprehensive. I don't want to just jump into the material, I like do the whole thing. This one will take awhile.
Solaris converts all the geometry to USD naming convention so Cd gets converted to DisplayColor, you can access that with a geometry property node in the Karma Materials. Hope that helps!
A few people have asked in the past, and I thought about doing live workshops, I think that would be fun, because then I would get instant feedback from everyone. What would you want? Video to video type udemy style course or live workshop?

how long time we have to learn houdini as biggeners to pro?(like normal work base not like indastries level)

do you have a demo of building an hda in lop or solaris?

@bubblepins it's all good. It just seems that the process for creating an HDA is a bit different than in sop-land. Thanks for your quick response

Bummer, don't even have a Join button for your channel. Probly the regional thing. Maybe put it to gumroad/artstation too?
That's a good idea, I haven't thought about that and I've made so many different HDA & HIP project files, I should put it on another platform!
Nice. What if you work directly in Solaris...?
No Sorry it only works in SOPS, because I need the group names which get lost once you enter Solaris.
it makes sense, thanks anyway@@bubblepins
@@bubblepins you can import groups in solaris as facesets

Like an AOV? I'm actually not sure how to generate AOV's in mantra... sorry ..

disappointed you made the title sound like this is an official Houdini feature when it really is just an ad for your HDA.
Sorry I should have read that a few more times, I think I've been working on this too long. I'll try to add HDA in there.
Good tutorials, but can you change the AI voice to something else? It's very hard to listen to this voice.
