The whole movie before is grim war... death and carnage. You notice as they discovered the gold they toss their weapons aside and assist, embrace each other. Hard, battle weary soldiers find common ground and go their separate ways. When the enemies work together, they understand each other. Very understated war movie. One of the best, in my opinion.
An old quote, "Gold may not get you good troops, But good troops will always get you gold."
So what happened after the credits, they all drive to France and catch some rays? Don't they have superior officers?
Such an amazing movie for being a comedy, hidden behind the backdrop of war. A ragtag bunch of guys from all walks of life, different levels of education, different backgrounds, different units, different armies, and all with that unquenchable obsession that unites all men: gold. Women are fun, power is exciting, land is for posterity but gold...gold has driven men mad since the beginning of time.

.MOST UNDERATED MOVIE IN HISTORY...Excellent casting....excellent acting including the extras! Hard to show the elation of people being liberated from years of tyranny but they nailed it anyway...very hard to imagine that sort of joy.

I was married, June, 1970, new husband got his draft notice! We went to Basic and this song Kelly's Heroes came out, bought the 45 record! Listened to it all the time! This was a wonderful Movie!

Saw this movie on TV in the early 90s when I was 19. Later that week I bought it on VHS and over the next few years I must've watched it two dozen times after being in the pub on a Friday or Saturday in the days before digital TV let alone streaming.
I miss Ennio Morricone. This shows that even in comedy, you put Morricone's song, it would be a blast.
I ve seen Ennio in France Nimes for the last time in june 2019. I miss Ennio too

Kelly's heroes is my alltime favorite movie. Saw it at the theater when I was 10 as the second half of a double feature with Kansas city bomber. and put this scene together with that music is epically awesome!

Rather late ( & I guess someone's pointed out already) .....but John Landis worked in Yugoslavia on this film & it seems this was a good example of how genres can be mixed & still work ,as did a script he was working on at the time - ' An American Werewolf in London ' ..

Notice at 4:20 Kelly and Big Joe enter through destroyed main door (which is fine), but guys on the left side run inside through door which clearly wasn't destroyed by German tank ;)

first:
it's a movie and like a movie: it's an entertainment so it's not exactly the same as the reality.
And May be the german tank guard the front door which is closed and the second gate, where the other guys came, is under fire from the german tank tiger...

Yes the scene was influenced and was filmed like a "spaghetti western" duel (the three soldiers against the tiger tank)
An alternate ending taking into account today's usual "script", void of any gentlemen's code of honor, once they find the gold they would betray each other and probably also start killing each other treacherously.
an possible alternate ending will be a nice new movie!

Always wondered why they were more or less heading north west at the end if that's a sunset. Towards US lines as opposed to east to Switzerland.

But i'll made this a long time ago, and at this time it was very difficult to include this voices without the original soundtrack music with my old computer and old software.
I'll try later to keep this voices.
