Whenever I hear the story of 3 guys in a shed making the AWP, my head will forever remember Zach Hazard's iconic words about this rifle "OH MY GOD, WE'RE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE!"
These videos are ridiculously good, super well researched and informative. The fact that you got Gooseman, Dave Walls and of course Ferguson in the same video is just amazing. Really, really well done.
I love hearing these stories from the guys who designed and manufactured a successful rifle. I was always curious how the Accuracy International guys had the skill to make the first few rifles and I'm pleasantly surprised to hear they were tool makers. I am interested in small arms design & manufacture and rather than get into a gunsmithing apprenticeship--I got into a tool and die makers apprenticeship. It made the most sense to me because tool and die making involves a lot of different metal working skills including manual machining with lathes and bridgeport mills and surface grinders, CNC machining(I'm doing that rotation right now), welding, using large presses for stamping, building extrusion dies, it goes well in depth into concepts such as tolerance staking, metrology, etc. Plus, my company pays for college courses and I get paid to learn the trade.
This is one of the best episodes of Loadout yet; the interviews with Dave Walls and Gooseman, to explain the gun's history and the reasons behind it's inclusion in CS respectively, were both great additions to the format.
Thanks Dave and team, that was really interesting. Back when I actually used to compete at the annual NRA Meeting at Bisley, one could just turn up shoot the McQueen sniper rifle course of fire, as an "unlimited re-entry" competition. In one class of this event, the entry fee provided the required ammunition and the loan of an army issue rifle. My first outings at this event used the Lee Enfield L42A1 rifles but later on the rifles were L96A1s. The latter was a big improvement over the Enfield and was much nicer to shoot.
Funny how Minh Le said that he was choosing either the AW or the TRG, because Counter-Strike Online devs planned to make the TRG-42 as an AWP skin before they made it into a separate weapon. It's a pretty interesting coincidence.
In a way, Counter Strike Online kinda still made TRG become an "AWP but heavier (for some reason???) and with less bullets" anyway in the end, not too much difference except for those and a much louder shot sound. CSO has a LOT of different snipers with similar stats though, true too overall for the rifles and pistols (SMGs and shotguns have more variations, and the LMGs are somehow very varied despite being even more plenty than the pistols)
This episode was awesome with the other 2 people being interviewed. It's so cool that you got them in here. I first saw it in Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (like many other weapons) and loved it. It's up there as one of my favorite sniper rifles.
The AWM is my favorite sniper rifle in BF4. I ran a 40x with a 14x variable, bipod, and heavy barrel. I just find a good vantage point and start taking names. It's the rifle I can consistently hit headshots at over 1km away. I learned it's bullet drop, speed, and range so well that my favorite map was Silk Road. Just taking out spawn campers and taking the heads off people who spawn in helicopters is the best contribution to my team, and they never even knew what I was doing to help. This rifle is also on my must buy list for airsoft guns when I have the money.
Man the sound of the pre-CS:GO AWP is so statisfying. Also fun fact: As a german for some reason people(myself included) keep calling it the AWE (more like in "Ave Cesar", not the word "awe"), which i suspect is a result of it being easier to call out than AWP in german. Though many that started with CS:GO are also just calling it in english, as AWP.
I was really surprised to hear him say that too. I don't think it is common knowledge in Counter Strike? Maybe the Reddit would say different if they got eyes on the video. But knowing the AWP is so iconic to CS, I never even considered that another rifle could have been in the same spot.
Gamespot…y’all’s firearm expert series is my all time favorite thing to watch on UA-cam, and loadout is quickly becoming another favorite. You guys should do a lot more of this type of stuff. I still watch this channel because of episodes like this, as well as the gun expert reacts eps as well. Dave, John, and everyone who works on these videos are amazing at what. they do. Keep it up.
valarante child game.... look to cartoon grapfix to make kid player happy like children show.. valarante cartoon world with rainbow unlike counter strike with dark corridorr and raelistic gun.. valarante like playhouse. valarant playor run from csgo fear of dark world and realism
I remember the first time seeing this weapon in R6 Vagas 2 and getting hooked on it. The only sniper used CoD: Black ops and is my main BF 3, 4 choice as well as GR Wildland and Breakpoint.
I forgot what gun this was for the longest time because it’s impossible to forget that it was the most infamous gun due to it being considered “cheating” for the first 9 months. They were a bit slow on patches for balancing back then haha. My go to guns were the Glock 18, and the MP5 or Steyr Aug. I thought it was funny to “cheat” back in the day by changing the skins of enemies…usually to Ronald McDonald. I don’t think it’s cheating, it made identifying enemies 100% easier haha. Not that it mattered I’d get kicked out and banned for flashbanging my squad in firefights or just prior to an attempted ambush. I found my own ways to entertain myself after playing seriously the first 6 months. Ah good times for sure back in high school.
In Sweden it's called the PSG90 and has been around for a bit. We are ironically moving on to SAKO produced stuff to replace our current weapons over the coming decade.
I recently manage to play STALKER Anomaly and that modded game added 2 Artic Warfare which is not from the original trilogy... the AWP and the AWM and I just fall in love with the AWP...
The version used in BOCW/Warzone one (LW3 Tundra) was incredibly underrated in my opinion. It had a pretty snappy ADS time with much higher bullet velocity than the KAR 98. It was a really good jack of all trades rifle, especially on Rebirth island.
LOL best man for the job for all the annoyance he's caused "accuracy" fanatics as a fellow southpaw, really nice to see Gooseman for the third time (for me personally) ever.
The rifle I almost never got to play with in CS 1.6 because almost all servers had a cap of 1 or 2 per team and my internet and rig were never fast enough to get in a purchase it first.
I thought the .300 winchester chambered AW was the AWM variant (just for artic warfare magnum) and the .338 Lapua was the AWSM (Artic warfare Super Magnum)
I'd love to see a video on the various terms "pistol", "sidearm", "handgun." What are the differences? What are the earliest examples of each? Has the definition changed over time? Do some legal systems or militaries define them differently?
In russian cs it is also known as a "Slon", which means "Elephant". probably because you can kill an elephant with it. Scout is known as "Mooha" - or "Fly", like an insect.
Just would like to add, PUBG's version of the AWP, in this case named properly as AWM, feels devastating and powerful. If you hear someone shooting a AWM, run for cover or you're done 😂
Do Dragunov next. If it's already done. Do it AGAIN.

In the first iteration of CS I've played the gun was called "AWM" then a patch came and it was called "AWP". I was confused and thought they would change it back to AWM since this seemed to be a typo to me. Well. I was wrong.

While I won't deny that the AW and its variants is pretty awesome, I also won't deny that its angered me many a time playing Counter Strike (Source and GO). It feels a bit unfair that even if say your TOE is sticking out around a corner you still get one-shot killed by the AWP. I feel like it should have basically been made one-shot to the chest and head, and high damage to the gut and thighs (probably leaving you with so little health the enemy team could easily finish you off)
The AWP is the source of the only time I was ever accused of cheating in any game. Because I didn't die. I hopped in front of Mid Doors (the double doors by CT spawn on Dust2). I was expecting to die, i was rewarded with 1-5HP and a dream. I was instantly called out, but I was as dumbfounded as they were adamant. This was in CS:S... don't remember if we won or not.
I swore if I didn't hear one mention of it's military designation, I would give this video a dislike, Thankfully at the end I heard "L96" and I'm now happy with this video.

Those guys are great! The Pancor Jackhammer rant was one of my favourites, I really enjoyed their F:NV content.
IM IN DANGER
I think being first created in a 'garden shed' is a prerequisite for any products success in Britain.
If the L80 series rifles were designed in a shed, maybe they would have been better
Somewhere the voice of a thousand small sports car manufactures cried out in anguish
That goes for here in New Zealand too.
😂
Didn't hurt the Owen gun either.
