Don't know if anyone has said this already, but a tip for the lateral movement. I think it might be easier to start the training along the fence with the horses head pointing towards the fence and the butt inwards. Then you have the fence stopping the horse from going forward and finding the right answer going sideways might be easier for the horse. It's just a tip off course and you do what's best for your horses and their training!

It's so interesting seeing glimpses into your day. There is so much going on 'behind the scenes' - you work really hard. Having been around horses for a large chunk of my life - that bit I can appreciate (although a lot has moved on). Your 'vlogging' life is incredibly demanding, on top of it all. Am pleased for you that you have more Team Elphick members. Safe travels to you & Pete - I love the banter between you both🤗. Looking forward to seeing your safari vlogs. Much love ❤ p.s. I understand the packing quandry - you just never know what you will need😅

So glad you got a lot out of that exercise! It's great, isn't it? Honestly, Winnie has a great hind leg. She did the stepping over the pole like a champ! She really is the quintessential mare--won't do things just cuz you say so, but once you get her on side, she is yours for life. I like her mind a lot. 🙂

I have to say I agree about Lemieux stuff, I got my first pair of jodhpurs and I got some socks the other day. I treated myself. As I had lost a lot of weight and my jodhpurs didn’t fit me anymore, I had gone from a size 20 to a size 12. So I thought I deserved them, then husband brought me the free jump soft’up pro stirrups, and glaze and Gordon stirrups straps the wide ones. To hopefully help me. Has I have problems with my joints, eg knees and my hips after a really bad accident. I really love jam bam, I would love to ride her, she is really my type of horse, I am so glad to hear that bear is coming back to work I have really missed seeing her on her.

I am using the TRT method with my 5 yo. Something to try with the in-hand exercises with Wilma. Use a different sound for going forwards, backwards and sideways. Forwards is obviously the usual click click. Backwards I do a ch-ch-ch sound. And lateral work is a kissing sound. Smch-smch type thing. It really helps them to know what you’re asking them to do 😍

Hi Meg! I love sweet Wilma and I'm cracking up about all your comments about her getting riled up and her recent behaviors. Welcome to the world of owning a thoroughbred mare lol. She is half so she probably switches back and forth to sensible Connie brain and illogical crazy TB brain. I was lucky enough to own a chestnut TB mare she was sweet, kind, loyal and she will always be in my heart but she was also what we lovingly called the energizer bunny up into her 30s she was getting the heard riled up and snorting like a fire breathing dragon. Wilma's behavior is totally to be expected with a TB or cross like her especially if she is in heat. I could not compete my mare if she was in heat until we started giving her horsey birth control. I think Wilma is slowly letting her TB half out free now that she is comfortable, it may be like having a horse with two personalities lol. I have also dealt with this in TB crosses. On the plus side my experience with TBs has taught me they are wonderfully resilient and will melt your heart they do the craziest outlandish things and then are just fine an hour later like nothing happened. The stories I have about my darling chestnut mare would make your heart drop to the floor . You did get so lucky with Wilma she will take you to the moon and back. You made a wonderful choice 😊
