Hi Jimmy, Thank you so much for inviting me onto you channel and for your extreme patience listening to my energy drink fuelled, extreme late night, rambling. This was an incredible amount of fun. Admittedly, this morning I feel like I have gone 5 rounds against the Pocket Rockets. Completely worth it though.
So that being unaware of other people being there when you're focused on something, is something called Spatial learning disability. When you can't hear something because you're reading or something is specifically an Auditory Processing Disorder (I think). I was misdiagnosed with this when I was eleven. Which was handy, because it sort of gave me the freedom to disregard everything else when I was playing a computer game or reading a book.
It was such a great time, so thank you for making time and sacrificing the always important sleep schedule. The general consensus seems to be we need a round two, so we will make it happen 😎
I finally watched the whole live show. Just amazing! I’m sure I’ll be rewatching this in the near future. AP provides such thoughtful insight into everything he says and Jimmy you are a fantastic interviewer. I can’t wait for part 2!!
I have been wanting to watch this since it came out and finally got to it! I was not disappointed! This is SO MUCH FUN! I can't wait to watch more of your videos!
The audiobook vs reading distinction was particularly helpful as I was reading a book where the gender of the first-person narrator was not revealed. The audiobook had Will Wheaton as a narrator, which mapped onto the reading of the book as I alternated between reading and listening.
Thank you for this, tried to watch last night but fell asleep, started again today and enjoyed very much......always a pleasure to listen to another Hobb fan who knows his stuff! Also i now realise I have been missing out and will have to start Malazan soon, probably next year though.
ASOIAF being unfinished doesn't bother me either. It's not that I don't care but it just doesn't bother me. Still one of my favourite series regardless if its finished or not. I really should get to re-reading it at some stage but I think that'll be sometime next year after Dark Tower, Malazan BotF and Memory Sorrow & Thorn. My problem is that I'm reading too many Fantasy series at once.
Good conversation. I can suggest 'Daughter of Empire.' I read it a year or two ago and really enjoyed it. I really need to get around to reading the rest of the series.
I'm also waiting for the last book in order to dive into The Wars of Light and Shadow. In terms of reshaping and recontextualizing everything you thought you knew about a world through major and subtle lore and character reveals it's supposed to be one of the few series that can rival Malazan in that regard. And that was one of my favorite things about Malazan, the slow trickle of information. Watching someone up close away at a huge fresco and painting in the little details one at a time andbeing intrigued all the way through...
AP I kept finding my copy of the stand over the course of ten years. And trying. And I can't review it and I have no opinion as to why. Last time I saw that copy was over ten years ago. I always remember it though. Its like the book that defeated me.
@A Critical Dragon - awesome talk between you and Jimmy - wish I had been Ble to watch it live. I’ve been very interested in the Light and Shadow series by Janny Wurts for a while and would live to ride along while you review them. Do you know what your reading / review schedule will be?
When people talk about showing vs telling, I think it's silly to look at it in a black and white fashion. AP is right that they're good for different things, but really, it's like the hard vs soft magic debate: it's in between. Every story contains elements of both, and sometimes, it is genuinely more effective to leave something up to the reader's imagination, even in a series that most of the time describes everything.

I can't listen to audio books because it take away my understanding of the book. I close everything out while I read. I can have the tv on and I'm not even hearing it. My reading is my escape from what is going on now. This is how I like it.
I really doubt there's many, possibly not any, people who watch reaction videos but don't also watch the actually trailer fullscreen without the commentary, several times. And if there is, striking those videos won't solve the problem - like you said, it's free advertisement and hype they're hurting.
Jim I think if she was nice enough to comment on one of your tweets about the word count i think she would say yes if you ever asked for a chat, I think AP's polite tweet idea sounds like a simple great plan, if it works it works if it doesn't so be it Really think it would be life-changing for you as well, if it happened of course,I get that from the tone and the words you have said on your experience of the series as a whole, big step for you and the channel as well if it came to fruition, Cuse we gotta get you on late night some day Jimbo hahaha Ya mate could be a big thing, and also just a great time , hope you attempt it

Have been going back and watching some of these episodes. Have you ever thought about putting them on Spotify or something as podcasts? Would love to listen to them at work or in the car!
Thanks for listening! I actually have thought about this but I'm still trying to grow the channel so sending people away from my UA-cam would split my audience. However it could be something I'll do in the future. I appreciate the feedback!
