Yes im sick of watching AND1 basketball. I want to see real plays. I want to see the guards chasing guards on offense and Defense. Instead of standing in Paths.
LeBron got a 100 million dollar deal right after HS, how are you gonna get Zion that compensation (which Zion WILL get next year) playing in college next year
Keep cutting off Clay and you won’t get the answer. I don’t want to hear anymore commentary from people like Dahntay Jones who only got on the court to trip or hurt another player and then sits at the table pretends his opinions aren’t subject to the influence of outside forces.
The argument is silly when it comes to basketball. The season started in November and will be over in a few weeks. So, we're only talking about 6 months of basketball then off to the NBA for top prospects. College football players who bring in more money, have to stay longer and have a much greater risk for injury are the ones we should be talking about.
JuicyMcnamus I think you have hit upon a good point. Allow EA to create the NCAA College Football and Basketball games again and use that revenue to pay players on the basis of their value to the team. Also, instead of colleges making deals with shoe companies, allow players to represent the shoe brand of their choice and get paid.
Dassix 1 I totally agree about compensation for image and likeness (and maybe even more beyond that), but just to play devils advocate, the big schools would still have an advantage in that scenario. Big schools provide more exposure, meaning an athlete at that school would profit more off their own image and likeness compared to a smaller school. The top recruits would still go to duke, Kentucky, Kansas, etc. because those schools have massive fan bases, better TV contracts, etc. which would bring in more profit opportunities.
they should also be able to share in the revenues generated by their team. there are 15 players on a basketball team. at a minimum, each of them should have an equal piece of the basketball revenues that come in for their school
At the very least, collegiate athletes should be free to take endorsements from Nike, Gatorade, etc. Then they'd be able to capitalize on their popularity. Lesser players wouldn't be offered the same kind of brand deals, and would only get scholarships. It's not a perfect solution, but one at last which avoids title IX red tape.
@Frank Garrett If the school doesn't spend the money and the endorsements come from third parties, then it would get around Title 9. But the NCAA would never allow this as it would lessen the School's revenues as Nike etc. would sponsor players instead of teams.
@Elliott Gold HA, do you know how many kids would like to have a free education? That's what the majority of college athletes are in it for. Only the idiots or the best of the best don't get that degree, that's the payoff for most of the athletes.
@Elliott Gold I'm in a hundred percent agreement with you on that. However, changing a government policy would be a slow process. Should it start as soon as possible so these athletes can get a cut of the money they generate? Yes. In the meantime, it would be nice for there to be a stopgap solution like endorsements. That way the athletes stuck between now and a reform in policy won't slip between the cracks.
WVgunfun I don’t think they should be paid by ncaa. But let me make money off my jersey sales , sell my autographs , sign endorsements. They can’t even have UA-cam channels . The nba can destroy ncaa if they ever make g league starting pay substantial.
Kenyon, Players in the league aren't paid the same also. It doesn't matter that you're on the team with Zion. Some players deserve to be paid more, just like in the league.
Wiley keeps mentioning that LeBron, Kobe, and Garrett were studs that skipped college but for every star, there are at least 20 high schoolers that flop in the NBA.
Joe Atkinson my argument has always been is to not pay the players but give them their image back. That way they can get sponsorships and you can say it's equal because everyone can get sponsorships but that way Zion will make more than a benchwarmer but theoretically they both have the same opportunity
It's this simple, just let them get sponsors.. the ncaa hides behind "boosters can pay kids to attend certain schools" as if top kids dont attend the same 20 schools anyway
There is a really easy, not complicated solution to this 1) Pay student athletes a portion of the sale value for jerseys and other apparel with their name on it 2) Allow students athletes to make private commercial deals for use of their name or image, such as shoe deals 3) Pay student a portion of the proceeds when their image is used, IE video games and posters Colleges don't have to pay anyone anything, and there is no Title IX issue
The NBA has never been more popular and the league is as deep as it was in the 80's 90's. Kids need to go to College. During 2000-2010 with all the High School kids coming out more Kids became busts and league became weak dept wise.
It's not best though. To me College is a Test that every kid needs to take. I understand their family situations but better to go to college a year to see if you can actually make "it" then geting a few mill then fizz out with no education. That quick mill will be gone real fast and they'll be "right where they staarted". They Talk about Lebron allot, but he Doesn't have a polished game nor does he understand what he needs to do to win. A year at Duke would have served him well.
Maybe so but Lebron doesn't win without Wade and Bosh, nor Love and Kyrie, All who were top 10 to 20 players during that time and far better then Rodman who only Defended and Rebounded. Jordans game was polished AF. One of if not the best mid range jump shots ever, His Game was fundamentally sound from offense to defense. Lebron has relied on his strength and Athleticism and passing, but his shooting has always been eratic, his decision making skills down stretches have been bad throughout his carer, and as much as he cary's teams he can cost his team by trying to control everything and dissapearing down the stretch. You think Coach K or Roy Williams couldn't have tought him how to harness his natural abilitys and play to win, your crazy. As great as he is he could have been greater with some polishing.
@@kingkanyon You understand the NBA. The NBA & NCAA never was about getting paid. It was about gifted players . Who was mentally strong. That player was awarded. Lebron benefited by backing the League with one and done. The international players coming to league is better players now. The NBA don't talk about the depressed draft picks or all the bust Or how money destroys talent.
Without Robert Hory Lakers wouldn't have 3 peated, without Worthy Magic Lakers wouldn't have won, without Ray Allen Heat Wouldn't have beat the Spurs, but who's to say somebody wouldn't have steped in that position and been the pivital piece. It's all theoretical. I'm not even referring to that anyway, I'm talking about 1 to 3 years of college where you practice way more then in the NBA, where your getting HOF coaching and Playing against great talent under intense circumstances and high presure. No matter how good you are that time is invaluable. And as great as LBJ is having that time to fix the little things would have made him even greater, it's just a fact. Kobe is different because his dad was in the NBA, he learnt under Eddie Jones and wasn't thrown in until he was ready and yet wasn't ready to lead untill year 10. Coming out of High School Hinders you Even if your great.
College is okay for some players but doesn't seem necessary for every player. If they are good enough to play in the NBA, they should be able to play in the NBA.
Honestly, I see nothing wrong with the NBA. Basketball fans will continue to watch regardless of who's playing. Causal watchers aren't the people we need to impress
Johnny Football Manziel was the hype of college football....where is he now!!! Zion will bring skills of among men, but depending on which team he's on, he may not be That Guy!! He could do well, but we'll see....
@@michaeld.wilkins7124 I'm with you but he missed the mark on his side of the debate--he should've have let it become about LBJ, MJ or Zion... it should've been about the players around them and on the bench--this is where the NFL is delivered better polished players several rounds into their draft and the NBA is a roll of the dice with the very first few picks. They all have their busts, but the NFL expects to grab starters out of the 2-4 rounds and the NBA chopped their back to only two rounds.
I watched him against Greg oden and he gave oden problems in high school. The reason was Oden was very timid in high school and Tyler played rough and dogfish. I never seen Tyler having a long NBA career. His China stats compared to NBA stats show what kind of player he is. That’s a great player among lesser talent. He had flashes in the NBA but flashes don’t get long term contracts.
Almiighty Vo Lonzo doesn’t have half the athleticism Zion has. Lonzo to be a #2 pick isn’t living up to his hype. He’s not a bust and he definitely not a threat to teams.
This conversation is really about capitalism vs. mixed-market economics. Whitlock is advocating for Williamson to be paid according to his worth to Duke and the NCAA based on his drawing power. The others can't seem to reconcile the fact that some basketball players out of high school would be able to command a sizable income if NCAA and NBA regulations weren't in place.
@Elliott Gold lmao Whitlock is talking about a system that doesnt exist while the other guys are talking about reality. It's that simple. As of RIGHT NOW they dominate this argument because this magical system where players are actually paid does not exist
You have to realize that Kevin Garnett Tracy McGrady Kobe Bryant and LeBron James all developed to be better players within 4 years of NBA ball I don't think that development would be any better or worse in college. So to say a player should go to college as opposed to going to the NBA is. Based on development is based on skill set you're going to be as good as you're going to get regardless.
The best way I’ve been described this situation is this: as a college student (non athletic) on scholarship is allowed to have a job and earn a paycheck, but athletes on scholarship aren’t allowed to get any type of job, or earn any income. Where is the fairness in that?
I just dont know where you will play Zion, he is 6'6 but plays like a old school power forward. I dont think he will be dominating the glass like he does in college.
They should give each college a salary cap and determine the player contracts based on a recruitment rating system. 5 Star recruits get the highest paid contracts. Contracts should last at least 2 years with player options and contract renegotiations for 3rd and 4th year.
@@GoLiveyo I said the same thing... Zion didn't develop any skills at duke... I don't know what dude was talking about... he literally had the footwork and skills of a pro player as a junior in high school... People was talking about wait till he hit the next level... Like his size and skill wasn't dominating at any level... These people are just now watching Zion...
@Samuel Brown not only do i follow basketball i played it stupid it dnt matter tht he wasn't the number high school player he was to me every since i seen ths kid 15 yrs old and he has it all see wen u kno the difference between talent and a gift becuz its not the same i played with a guy name marlyn byrd he was a kid tht could do it all naturally he was the nxt player to go to the nba from high school and he was only in the six grade unfortunately he died in a car accident with his mom but the boy was raw and zion is twenty times better u got ppl tht dnt kno basketball judging these kids barrett was number one as u cn clearly tell hes not better than zion.
It's not that big of deal. Folks are tripping. The season started in November and will be over at the end of March. That's 5 months of basketball. Then, off to the NBA. Look at all of the top prospects who come out of college each season. How many dominate in the NBA off the bat? Almost none. So, rushing these kids to the NBA is silly. Lonzo was a stud in college but hasn't dominated in the NBA. Ditto for countless other players.
Here's what you do. You calculate the revenue generated by the team and program. Then you account for every individual players revenue (jersey sales etc.) Then you come up with a percentage of what the athletes get in return (20% for example) in a stipend. But in order for the athletes to qualify for the check, they have to play and GRADUATE. This allows the college's to retain their stars for the full 4 yr term. Which gives them a better quality game which will lead to more revenue. So they win there. It also gives the athletes an incentive to stick it out for 4 yes and get their degrees. They win. Everybody wins. Especially the fans.
Over the last 10 years some of the best players in the league have done 2-3 years in college, such as Steph Curry, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Damian Lillard, Kawhi Leonard, Blake Griffin, Kemba Walker, Victor Oladipo, Jimmy Butler, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and most recently Donovan Mitchell and Kyle Kuzma. Most guys ain't ready to go to the NBA after their freshman year.
My issue is why cant I at the college level sign with a brand? How would it hurt the school or players? I understand you are getting a free scholarship but the school is ads publicity and ratings! What's the difference in Microsoft hiring me during my first year in college because I excel in the I.T. course? Isnt it the same?
Only 2%, of NBA players make it straight out if high school and only 0.3 of the 2% are stars. There needs to be a developmental program for players who want to be in the pros straight out of high school
@@quadricgilliam1089 GMs don't develop talent. There should be many routes to the NBA. They're already talking about doing the development league. Players should get a stipend in college too
NCAA should allow players to be compensated by endorsement deals, autograph signings and a piece of their jersey sales and merchandising related to them. That way colleges aren't paying everybody and the superstars in college can make money while the 12th man bench warmer walkon is just there for the experience.
What they missed is the fact that if they allow a kid to hire an agent, and to test the waters in the league.. they can see what the market is and DECIDE if they want to go to college or not after that. Instead of the old rule of 'hire an agent.. lose your eligibility. AND if you add the players getting endorsement deals IN college.. the players that are there might stay longer. It's win win. EXCEPT (with the 'endorsement thing') the big name schools are gonna have even more power in recruiting. But that can also be figured out.
Once the NCAA starts paying college basketball players, the level of play will decrease mark my words, mainly because young college players will not have the same desire to improve their game because they are already on six figures or million dollars. College should be place where players prove their potential, so that they can be rewarded very well when they enter the pro ranks.
NCAA should just let players have the income they generate from their own jersey sales and merchandise. That alone would make everyone happy. Paying players big contracts in college in my opinion is a bad incentive to play. College is like the 'intern' or 'apprentice' stage of being a basketball player and when you refine yourself you can receive that promotion into the big leagues and then the millions you deserve come your way. That's how I've always viewed college ball.
I can name over hundred 50 greatest players that went to college to what 5 straight out of high school players kobe,kg,lebron. Players should go to college that play harder in college
If you ask any of the top 100 high school players in the country if they’re ready for the nba, every one of them would say yes. 98 would be wrong. There are a lot of top 10 players who go on to get drafted late 1st or 2nd round. How could that be? They were ranked so high in high school. It’s because they get exposed in college for not being as good as people thought they would be. Nba doesn’t want to waste lottery picks on projects “with potential”. They want players that are ready to make an impact.
There needs to be a panel of current/retired players and coaches that determine what prospects are ready for the pros and vote them in. If you're not voted in you go to college.
Zion made millions of dollars by going to Duke. He got on the job training, increased his brand, and is a Duke legend now. Gtfoh with the talk that he’s being exploited.
How much publicity did Zion get from going to Duke? How big is his sneaker deal going to be because he went to Duke? It was mutually beneficial for both parties, simple as that.
Jeffrey Youngblood that still doesn’t address the 100 dollar jersey duke is selling and Zion not getting a dime from it you have a plantation mentality
Michael Brown the best way to not answer a question is to ask your own I guess when a company starts selling something with your name on it and you don’t get a penny let me know how you feel
As long as their is no serious competition for the players services anywhere else on the globe the NCAA and NBA can do whatever the F they want. And from a fans standpoint players coming into the NBA straight out of high school sucks. Makes NCAA basketball completely boring, makes NBA draft night completely boring when no one knows any of the players. And it takes players drafted longer to develop which also sucks as a fan.
How do you pay all those players? Contracts with advertisers are done well ahead of time. Will it be stats based and win based payments? Zion was no guarantee to be this good his freshman year. The money definitely be given however you can't give them what they could earn in the NBA. Players would still leave because many don't want to go to class no matter what.
College players do not generate the revenues for the NCAA. The coaches do . It is reason why North Carolina and Kansas put very little stars in the NBA as opposed to Duke and Kentucky.
When players were able to jump into NBA out of high school both the NCAA and NBA suffered because a lot of them weren’t ready and needed that incubation period you get from playing college ball
A better arguement is the one and done are not developed.... AD, Blake Griffin, kyrie, Aaron Gordon, the list goes on. From injuries to actual performance, it took them a couple of years. It is an argument for the one and done to stay and get better.
If you choose to become a student athlete at any university you should be required to stay for three years. I think we've lost the real reason why these kids are in college and we're telling them to waste that opportunity for money. If any of these players washout none of the folks telling them to chase a check will be there to pay their bills cause they're broke and under employed.
If it was my money I was spending I would not want a kid straight from high school. College is my vetting process to see where his head's at and also see how he takes coaching, and also to see if he is a player or athlete, there is a difference.
They should have the option. I don't think paying them while in college is the answer, but high profile players like Zion should have a contract with their college team. This contract would say that if this collegiate star is drafted they shall receive a payout on draft night that reflects the boost in revenue/wins for the school as a result of that athlete's play per year, and in accordance with draft ranking. These schools owe this to the Zions of the college sports world. This will make college more attractive to student athletes; making it rewarding for hard work while refining their craft. It also would hold schools accountable for their exploits.
I personally would like to see the NBA go back to the Jordan model of 2 to 3 years of college then the pros, I think when players are in college for 2 or 3 years they are physically prepared for the NBA and actually have longer careers than the one and done guys. If you dont like that option you can go to the DLeague out of HS and play your way to the league from there. OPTIONS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING HERE.
Why is is that the NBA and NFL drafts are so different to the NHL draft where most kids are drafted at 18? The teams then own the rights to that player, but if they feel they're not ready yet they go off to college or the minor leagues to develop.
The nba has a combine and high school seniors should be at the nfl if theyre that good. You cant pay college athletes unless youre gonna pay them what a RA or Kitchen worker on full academic ride makes. If youre good enough you should play with the grown folks. Where the ncaa fails is with boosters and sponsors the kids should be able to take money from anyone in college as long as you not playing for the mafia.
Nobody has ANYTHING to say when hockey players go from HS to the pros; or turn pro in Baseball straight from HS; in Tennis at 15; or gymnastics at 14; or sign with Soccer Clubs at 16. Only in the case of “American” Professional Basketball do we continue to have this discussion; and yes...it’s race related. If there’s a kid that’s good enough to go pro from HS; let him go. There won’t be that many good enough “anyway”! Once again - check the other sports I mentioned - kids turn pro from HS even Middle school all the time. #thatisall
So Bron didn’t make it where players have more control of there narrative & careers? Not leaving it to “Teams” to think they can just have there way..Took the first bullet for guys like KD/Boogie/PG ...He started this player movement where guys way more comfortable to do what’s best for them & y’all wanna bring up the “game” who does more than him OUTSIDE the game as well
The ratings are down because of nobody wants to watch harden drop 50 with no defense being played and going 25-25 in free throws...or watch curry make three after three without being touched.... im not saying let players go out there and brawl..but they need to bring back hand checking and let a foul be a real foul...plus i hate when players create the contact on the offensive end bump in the defender and get free throws...if they change that then i believe it will help. The nba has a great crop of talent, just adam silver is using it in the wrong way..
In Dukes case if players like Zion get x amount then other star players would not attend certain colleges or transfer . As matter of fact those other 2 guys might not even attend Duke because Zion would get most of $$$$ . Im sure they would go where the most $$$ leads them . Also winning would go out the window , getting paid for some would be what it’s all about . A mess .
Zion did not develop his game that much in college he been this good y'all so called experts just underrated him I been saying he is the best player in his draft class that was clear but so much emphasis is put on a player ability to shoot the 3 everything else good about them is underrated they are not shooting 3's at a high clip
This is a basketball and football issue. Other sports are allowed to make money off their likeness. Ben Askren is a mma fighter who was a great college wrestler. When he was in college his friends and family would sell t-shirts at the arena with his face and nickname on it and nobody cared. If Tua or Zion’s families were selling shirts at games they’d be ineligible. Johnny Manziel got suspended for charging someone for his autograph. ALL athletes should own their OWN likeness.
In my opinion, Jason Whitlock still thinks this is the 1980's - 1990's college basketball. The NBA created the 1 and done rule to help college basketball. This time the 1 and done rule will be done away with because College Basketball does not help them like they thought it would. I can see the NCAA Tournament ratings plummet more this time than it did when high school players can go straight to the NBA.
thats whats wrong with the sports now a days just because ur good at spots you are intitled to the best, best sponsors best shooter best rebounder best team mate "best let me hold it for you"
Nobody says a young man who understands computer coding and developing can't work at Microsoft until they "develop their coding" in college, right? Nobody says a young man who understands investing can't invest until they "develop their investment skills" in college, right? So why would you force a young man who is ready to play professionally spend a year as an amateur under the guise that they need to "develop their skills" in college? The NCAA just wants their cut despite the contingencies that could happen, such as the young man gets injured or lowers their market value... It's criminal!
I liked the one-n-done model even though Duke and Kentucky were gobbling up every one of them (Not sure how or why), but it made the recruiting interesting, the games interesting due to the fact that a potential #1 overall pick was coming to your team, or now that they've taken the Lebron approach in trying to build super teams like Kentucky and Duke have to at times be upset in the tournament...all that is going away, and it will hurt college basketball for sure. Go Heels by the way!
Advocating paying Zion is a poor example because he was good enough out of high school to go to the NBA. He shouldn’t be there to begin with. Honestly they should give superstars the option of whether they want to be exploited by the college game or not. Also, the reason why guys are leaving so early now is because they don’t have to be as physically developed to play in the NBA today because of the rules making the game less physical. Zion is the rare breed that has both NBA physicality with Elite athleticism. This is why he was ready to go out of high school.
Who would negotiate the pay. What would the pay be. Does the last man and best player get paid the same. Would Duke have more money to spend than the small school. Sounds like the NBA to me so go pro if your able.
no one ever brings this up in the nfl. forget the physicality, if a kid wants to go pro, let him. you think tua and lawrence need another year of college?
The idea that you can compare football and basketball is off by a few measures. First football has eleven player on a side that need to coordinate to win or score. Basketball has only five a side. That is why the football has a playbook. Basketball may have set plays but plays but most are on the fly. Second basketball is a player sport. One player can take over a game on offence. By adding one player to any basketball team the team they can be a really good team. How many football teams become really good adding one player? The system of scoring and fouls makes basketball an open game. Football is designed around play calling. All of the players know they have to cover their assignments on what play is called. What it boils down to in football most plays are designed in basketball most plays happen on the fly. At the end of a game in football during a time out is the coach designing a play from scratch? In basketball the coach has his board and designs a play. Most basketball players from the time they were in grade school have played against players older, stronger and better then themselves in games. How many football players get to play in pickup football games? You have to teach football players the game basketball players adapt their game on the fly.
People are overcomplicating this waaayyy too much. Three rule changes and we fix this whole debacle: 1. End the one and done rule. Allow players to go from hs to the draft 2. If a high school player or college player with years or year left of eligibility declares for the draft and Doesn't get drafted (remember, only 60 picks each year in the NBA draft), he is still allowed to play college bball 3. Allow players to be payed in college for their likeness, marketability (shoe contracts) and jersey sales. NO BASE PAY from the NCAA or universities. Boom. Capitalism is restored and the NCAA still has great talent
Not compensated.....Duke is around 35k a semester tuition. Duke is the ultimate marketing tool to increase your value. He is guaranteed to go #1 in the draft. Had he come straight from high school he might not have even been taken in the top 10. He will instantly sign mega endorsement all because he played at Duke. He may not have signed any significant endorsements until year 2 or 3 had he came straight from high school.
No player who went to a school to gain access to the NBA draft by going through a season in college first should be forced to do that. A student athlete who is not projected to be a top 10 pick they know if they are projected to or not, should remain in college get their degree and develop as best they can to see if they can become a lottery pick. I don't believe in the pay to play thing wholeheartedly. That's only because of how profitable the game has become in today's marketplace. Nobody knows how a player will turn out whether they make an immediate jump or do the full 4 year thing. KG Kobe AI those were players who did NOT NEED a year in college. We KNOW that. A Scottie Thurman? Different story.

Ronald Lassiter If you’re not good enough to work in the nba, you won’t declare. And for every college player that works in the nba, 20 fail
and there are hundreds of guys who stayed in school that went undrafted
The equal starting point for college athletes, is free tuition. Sponsorship/ compensation for specific athletes from companies should not be banned.
JuicyMcnamus that's my favorite thing about that argument like it's not happening underneath the table 😂😂.

There is a really easy, not complicated solution to this
1) Pay student athletes a portion of the sale value for jerseys and other apparel with their name on it
2) Allow students athletes to make private commercial deals for use of their name or image, such as shoe deals
3) Pay student a portion of the proceeds when their image is used, IE video games and posters
Colleges don't have to pay anyone anything, and there is no Title IX issue
Exactly also allow them to come back after declaring for the draft.
The NBA has never been more popular and the league is as deep as it was in the 80's 90's. Kids need to go to College. During 2000-2010 with all the High School kids coming out more Kids became busts and league became weak dept wise.
King Kanyon I can agree but I'm one for if they believe it's best let them have it and get paid
What do you mean LET? They can go overseas.
Or play in the D-league. There are already places they can go to play and get paid but college gives them the most exposure.

Remember how Tyler Hansborough stayed in college? And worsened his brand?... I do
He was a big, white Stiff. Wouldn’t have made a difference.
Tyler wasn’t ready for the NBA. He made it but he didn’t have what it took to stay.
Remember Lonzo was a one and done. Now everybody's calling him a bust
Almiighty Vo Lonzo doesn’t have half the athleticism Zion has. Lonzo to be a #2 pick isn’t living up to his hype. He’s not a bust and he definitely not a threat to teams.
derrick rose almost didn't make it to the nba because of college, t-mac and bron may not have made it either because of college grades

NCAA football players get injured and beat up for 3years. Alot of them never make it to the league
Here's what you do.
You calculate the revenue generated by the team and program.
Then you account for every individual players revenue (jersey sales etc.)
Then you come up with a percentage of what the athletes get in return (20% for example) in a stipend.
I left right when he said Lebron needed more years in college lol
The bottom line is that Zion is not at Duke to get an education, so he shouldn't be there at all.
Only 2%, of NBA players make it straight out if high school and only 0.3 of the 2% are stars. There needs to be a developmental program for players who want to be in the pros straight out of high school
Or you could just pick better GM's and evaluation of talent to get picks right

NCAA should allow players to be compensated by endorsement deals, autograph signings and a piece of their jersey sales and merchandising related to them. That way colleges aren't paying everybody and the superstars in college can make money while the 12th man bench warmer walkon is just there for the experience.
Allow players to get drafted and once drafted be able to play the first yr in college as a redshirt yr or something to that nature
College doesn't make u a better player. Its pointless

We’re these guys mimicking pastor Gino Jennings with the “am I rrright?”
College players do not generate the revenues for the NCAA. The coaches do . It is reason why North Carolina and Kansas put very little stars in the NBA as opposed to Duke and Kentucky.

Kenyon Martin lacks intelligence. "Show me a W2". The man just said he wasn't being compensated.
When players were able to jump into NBA out of high school both the NCAA and NBA suffered because a lot of them weren’t ready and needed that incubation period you get from playing college ball
Dragan76 NBA coaches are miles better than college ones?
A better arguement is the one and done are not developed.... AD, Blake Griffin, kyrie, Aaron Gordon, the list goes on. From injuries to actual performance, it took them a couple of years. It is an argument for the one and done to stay and get better.
Realistically speaking, how much would they actually pay college kids to play?
If you choose to become a student athlete at any university you should be required to stay for three years. I think we've lost the real reason why these kids are in college and we're telling them to waste that opportunity for money. If any of these players washout none of the folks telling them to chase a check will be there to pay their bills cause they're broke and under employed.
Colleges pay a nominal amount to all athletes. Let the separation happen on free market: agents, shoe companies, jersey sales, etc.

All the guys on the panel are ignoring the fact that he said... shoe companies paying the athletes is the way to unlock it! 👌
They're already getting a full ride at a prestigious university. I'm stuggling to pay my student loan
Scrolling through the comments looking for jokes about Whitlock’s haircut
Real simple
Instead of "paying" college athletes simply remove the rule that prohibits them from working
Let them go out and fetch the market rate
It began in 2000 with Steve Fransis
Man K.Mart b speaking facts, I was BIG fan from da jump
It’s boring to watch people shoot non stop 3’s like they are at the Y.
thats whats wrong with the sports now a days just because ur good at spots you are intitled to the best, best sponsors best shooter best rebounder best team mate "best let me hold it for you"
Nobody says a young man who understands computer coding and developing can't work at Microsoft until they "develop their coding" in college, right?
It should be like the baseball rule...
Who would negotiate the pay. What would the pay be. Does the last man and best player get paid the same. Would Duke have more money to spend than the small school. Sounds like the NBA to me so go pro if your able.
The colleges get millions while the players get free shoes. Not a fair trade. Where's the incentive to stay in college a few years?
Michael Jordan also walked into the NBA with a $20M NIKE shoe deal. Can’t compare that.
How did Jordan and LeBron come up in this debate?
no one ever brings this up in the nfl. forget the physicality, if a kid wants to go pro, let him. you think tua and lawrence need another year of college?
Three rule changes and we fix this whole debacle:
1. End the one and done rule. Allow players to go from hs to the draft
2. If a high school player or college player with years or year left of eligibility declares for the draft and Doesn't get drafted (remember, only 60 picks each year in the NBA draft), he is still allowed to play college bball

Zion would be a better pro if he developed his outside shot in college. But it is a lot of money to give up to stay in college.
College athletes should be paid someway not just a scholarship.
