Your decor brings you calm. Other colors and items bring other people calm. I personally have learned so much about my style and decor from you. I sometimes can’t afford what you post but I love the dupes and have already begun redoing so much. For the few comments that don’t love your style (as there always will be with designers) there are that many more that connect with you. Grateful I found you 🖤
I like how you acknowledged that we can like many "styles" and we just have to pick what we love the most! Also, we continue to change and evolve as people so why wouldn't our tastes and styles change as well. Another great video🫶🏻
I’ve always had a Gothy edge. For me, the evolution has been actually being able to 1) afford the nicer accessories. 2) paint my walls dark colors. 3) living in a Western town, I added a touch of the Western Goth to my style. That would’ve never made sense before living in the city.
That orange stem in the vase is awesome especially with the black backdrop of the fireplace. Love the ancient items. The journey philosophy is one that takes away the guilt of trying something that may or may not work for you for a time and then accept it’s time to you deserve a change, take what you’ve learnt and expand it or take it in a new direction.
I have an antique trunk at the end of my bed with extra linens. It's my great great grandmother's and she immigrated from Germany with it at the turn of the century.
Here's an alternate way to get use out of an old wooden ladder. I took my Dad's old ladder (about 70 years old!) and spray painted it with exterior paint (several coats). I use it outside during the summer and put plants/flowers on it. It's integrated into my garden and I love it!
I love it when we walk with you into one of your rooms and hear you share your process of selection for where things go, what you are changing, what you dream about differently and maybe keeping your eye on, and all of that! I think it’s really fun hearing you share your process. And price points and why something goes where it goes ( like ideas about scale, color, texture, shape, etc) That always gets me so motivated.
I absolutely love antique and vintage but I abhor peoples homes that look like a big flea market with everything possible crammed inside. I think no matter what someone’s style, you can still be tidy vs living in piles of stuff. I think what I’ve learned the best from you is to make your home have style, character, polish, be purposeful, individuality, no matter what “Label” others put on it. Will you please share where you purchased the gorgeous floral on your coffee table in this video? I am in love with the color!
Valentina, you hit the nail on the head! Creating a home that you love, that represents you, that sparks joy...it's so personal and it evolves and changes just as we do. It's truly a journey and a reflection of our personal life seasons. When I found you here about four years ago, I thought...wow she gets me! I have learned a lot from your channel. 🖤
This video brought back memories of my mom and great aunt, traveling by hatchback car from San Diego to southern Colorado, with a hanging rattan chair that barely fit in the car. I think the chair poked through to the front seats. I wanted that chair so much that my mom, bless her, made sure I got it. It was on our covered porch, then on my oldest daughter's porch, and now on my youngest daughter's balcony. I owned the wicker throne chair in the early 80s too. Wow! Blast from the past!
Love it! Can you please do more on each segment: how you became a designer, refining your style in each era and the emotional side. I’d love more on the emotional side as I’m sure I’m not the only one whose gone through a major life change and want to focus my energy on designing the ultimate home after having very unhappy and undesigned houses because of someone else. ❤
Hi V, what you said in this video really resonated with me. It does take time to determine your style, I love a few styles and it can be confusing when you are looking for items to purchase. When I moved to my house I wanted Victorian looking furniture as it felt really homely to me but I’m glad I now didn’t go down that route. My style is much more simple and modern, you have influenced me greatly actually and I’ve found that I love the items you have. I have a long way to go as I’ve only really decorated our lounge with items I love, still looking for other pieces for the other rooms. My one concession is I have a beautiful 80 year old black serpentine style sideboard in my dining room, it has modern sculptures etc sat on it and it looks fab with the two styles together. Thank you for your videos x
Valentina, I love love love your home. I love EVERY room. If I won your home in a contest, I’d move in and be so perfectly happy. I wouldn’t change a thing. Not one color, not one piece of decor (until a season changes of course). I love it all. So, please know that tons of us adore your style, love your color palette choices, enjoy your fun family interactions and appreciate all the TIME and energy you put into providing us with so much awesome content. Thank you thank you thank you!!! 😊
I loved this! My taste has evolved as well and I’m not mad about it 😉. I like the point you made about letting someone else have their moment w/ items that no longer bring you joy.
Wow, me too - every time I see them lit in your home, Valentina, I stare at them in fear and fascination! I hope Louie never runs by and knocks one off the table...
I bought a house with a second living room. The main living room got all new furniture, while the second got all the old furniture and decor I've had for years. It's kinda interesting to compare them, looking back on what I used to like vs now. The old stuff is more casual (and cheaper) vs my more refined new stuff, but there's still a lot of commonalities in things like the similar color palette.
Agree vintage typewriters are cool whether you decorate with them or not. I do like an antique piece as an alternative sight point from all modern, and am comfortable with a mix, not everyone is.
If you run across any other working vintage typewriters & cameras I'm all about them. I'm in Yucca. Sooooo, next time you visit. 😅 Loving that sprig of burnt orange in the vase on your coffee table!!
The things you get at IKEA and Amazon, H&M etc aren’t ancient. They’re just modern tchotchkes. We all love them but as I’ve aged I’m more considerate in my purchases because I’ve made so many mistakes that went to Goodwill. It’s hard because they are beautiful vases and decor items out there today.
How we evolve as we live in & furnish our home thru-out our lifespan is always of interest...to me. And Humbling. As we consider our preferences for what is more...or less ... Chic/Compatible in the moment, I often wonder how it will fare in the Rearview Mirror 20 years hence...and what the Verdict will be re: whether it was a good use of available Resources at the time??? Thank you for this thoughtful presentation.
*Essence Blend Evolution* . I can see how my perfected blend has evolved over time. I have definitely incorporated more masculine feeling pieces and quite enjoy a dark and moody space 3/4 of the year. As a rustic/vintage/cottage gal, I do less florals in favor of greenery, stripes, plaid, and window pane patterns are staples, and I go for large statements rather than clutter.
I have never had the heart to get rid of my vintage typewriter. It makes a yearly appearance on my front porch The week of Halloween. It gets cobwebs, creepy fabric, and skeleton hands that type on the keys. But then it goes away until next Halloween!
My style has definitely evolved in my 60's from what my style was in most of my past decades! I love the growth and evolution in my taste. As a previous Interior Designer and Real Estate Agent, I understand the need to embrace your evolution in life!
At one point I did not have a lot of room for a side table and honestly did not want to spend money. I used what I had, a shorter CD rack I bought at Pier 1 imports. Worked and looked great I had cubbies for small items and a flat surface for an orchid.
I am cracking up because it’s like you’re in my head! When I began my career in advertising, I was obsessed with cultivating an office full of vintage typewriters and cameras-and recently I had someone offer me one, and I politely declined. Psychologists who focus on enclothed cognition would agree with everything you’re saying: your home reflects back to you how you see yourself and who you’re becoming. If you walked into mine right now, you’d 100% be like-this is a woman in transition! This last weekend I suddenly went from trying to create this French, sculptural, organic yet modern aesthetic to wanting something more sophisticated and literally put half my decor-including a 7 foot faux tree in my closet. 😂 And now I’m obsessing over whether to replace the Anthropologie vintage-inspired mirror dupes with the little filigree on top with simple round and arched ones. And omigosh, I love so many styles, I get it! I go from my Arhaus, PB, CB2, and Serena & Lilly catalogues like “yes, yes, yes…” Even some of those Gen Z neon word signs and glam looks that every designer hates on seem fun. So yeah, I just have to ask myself: Who am I becoming in this next chapter? And apparently it involves a blue pillowcase from PB-cuz that’s what I had to order last weekend. Think my overly muted home now wants to say something with a little pop of color. 😂 Love this video!
Not vintage but ancient!!! This is the best!!! I love the weathered handmade ceramics and sculptures too. I love handmade and texture. I just dont love used old or vintage furniture. I may like a new piece with maybe mid century inspiration- but I like it to be new. I’ve always thought my design style wasn’t cool or interesting enough simply because it seems every designer talks incessantly about how adding vintage pieces are a must. But now I feel validated!!! Not vintage, but ancient will now be my new mantra!! You’re the best
Well i like to keep memorable sentimental items as a decor to me it is better then following trends and constantly changing decor, yes i love sculptures always been not bcz its trending now. But personlised decor&spaces getting trendy i see😂
Ancient one-of-a-kind items like old vessels and wooden bowls are timeless. You buy once and they go with any decor style. There are some great stores online in europe that even ship for free - beautiful ancient, huge pots, vases and dishes. I would love to share a link but i dont think i am allowed on here?
The displays of vintage cameras, black, glass and gray, would still look great in your house. I’d rather have a classic unique item than something (one of many) made a month ago.
UGH…have wanted to get rid of my stepladder in the corner of my loft. Just didn’t feel right anymore. Need something to place a couple of receivers and electronics on. Ive been stumped 🤔 for a while now…suggestions?
Yeah get rib of the old stuff like some people like to be holders just some thing that you can do with your house decorations and don’t get too much junk and save it if they are sentimental
Question please. Isn't there flame on your mantle to close to your wall and mirror? Seems as if a fire may begin easily. May just be the view from our angle. Enjoy your you tube videos!!
Reduce the book collection! Give it away when you are done with it, pass it on, unless it is a usable reference book like a how to book, design book, or cookbook that has recipes you want to try. Only keep what you LOVE especially furniture.
I almost bought a vintage typewriter and so glad I didn't. When something becomes trendy like that they lose their cool factor . Plus they weigh like 1000 lbs!
Hi Valentina ❤ I'm not knew to your channel 😢 I just love your style and you motivated me to transform my 80s home into something I now enjoy. So thank you ❤ I subscribed ❤
With all due respect, I find your comment a bit confusing, as you stated..."overly excessive in the things you like". Isn't that the point of life in general??! Nobody does it better than Valentina in my opinion 😘

I just could not take my eyes off the candle on the mantle. I was so afraid it was gonna catch something on fire. What a flame. 🔥 😮

Yes, yes, yes to your philosophy of your home evolving! I know so many people who decorate once and never again. It makes me a little sad.

Totally agree about those huge wicker chairs - never looked comfortable to me! I do love and share the obsession with all things ancient.
Here's to hoping that mirror frame is metal. That flame is a little wild.
It is and the flame is no where near the actual frame!
Wow, me too - every time I see them lit in your home, Valentina, I stare at them in fear and fascination! I hope Louie never runs by and knocks one off the table...

Can you please tell me where the white sculpture on the mantle is from?

I think you are a bit overly excessive in the things you like and there needs to be a balance. Black, white, spheres , balck and white abstract etc.
But it’s her home and she’s sharing what she likes.. She’s not saying you have to like it. Loving your home is the point..
