The Donnas should have been a global phenomenon. Awesome songs, killer stage presence, and they were all about the music (no stupid T&A bullshit, even though they were cute). I don't think Atlantic pushed them hard enough.
They really didn't, even though the two Atlantic albums are really solid. They were in a few commercials and had a song in a Gran Tourismo release of the time, but Atlantic didn't really give them the push they needed. What's really sad is nobody told Torrie early on that her technique was poor. Could have saved a career if just one person had said "hey, don't do that!".

The "Gold Medal" album this track comes from is great, even if it's got a short overall running time. This is my favourite track on the album - I've had the CD for many years, but it's taken until late 2020 for me to see this video for the first time!
The thing is, Gold Medal doesn't *feel* short. It feels like it's just about the right length. And almost every song lets the band stretch a little (the piano solo on Gold Medal being a perfect example of this).

I always thought this band never got the attention it should have. Drummer was full of energy and guitar player had killer riffs. The singer was the weak link in the Donnas but it still worked. Time for a comeback album. 😃
I agree, Allison was the strong one and imo the one who carried the band. If it wasn’t for her, I don’t think the Donnas would even be a bit of what they were. And as much as I loved them when I was a teen many, many years ago, yes Brett was the weakest link.

Perhaps the most kick-ass song ever put out by an all female band. Everything works in this song. The Donnas were an incredibly talented group!

It really is a song that works on so many levels...it's close to being the almost perfect rock-commercial song around. It has pretty well it all in just over 3 minutes.
I love The Donnas but do yourself a favor and look up "Dice" by Band-Maid and thank me later.
The Donnas have many songs that are much better than this. But I much prefer when they rock out a little harder than this. This sounds like “we need a song for clear channel radio” lol.

I saw them open for Joan Jett at the end of the 90s in NYC. They totally kicked ass. I was blown away. The drummer is one of the hardest working drummers in the business. Hands down one hard working young lady. She was awesome to watch. And on a personal note, shes my type so that made it even easier on my eyes, but thats not the point I am am trying to make here.

Apparently this album didn't sell well. I can proudly say that I have the original "Duel disk" release of this with the messed up final track that never played in the felt case. I will never give it up. It's a great and underrated record.

Wow! I heard this band at the end of the "Charmed" episode 7 season 7 (Someone to Witch Over Me) and had to check them out. I am a big fan of women rockers and bands, my favorite being Pat Benatar...wish they were still around. They could easily have spearheaded main act all girl band as competitive as traditional hair and all male bands. Other than Amy Lee of Evanescence, it is a scarcity. I hope women and upcoming girl bands are encouraged to rage on and populate the genre. It would be awesome as were The Donnas.

Guys I recently discovered the donnas. I was listening to a song on Herbie Fully Loaded and I needed to see who sang the song because I instantly fell in love with it. I I saw that it was peformed by the donnas. I searched UA-cam but I couldn't find it. I managed to download it and I created a video of their song from Herbie Fully Loaded which was "roll on down the highway" I am really upset that no one knows of it. Its truly amazing. Please search " ROLL ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE DONNAS"

They play their songs occasionally. You wouldn’t believe the amount of places you’d hear “Take it off” back in the early 2000’s. You would think this was the richest girl band on the planet….however, music contracts were not in their favor. They could have survived on royalties alone as a band for life at one point, but legally got screwed. They switched back to independent & apparently (from what I’ve been reading, catching up on them today) still perform at concerts/festivals as independent artists (not signed by a label).
