That skyline shot at 1:22 is so beautiful to see. When I left NYC in 1970 you couldn't see anything except the smog.
I miss the old GG.
It also amazes me that plants will grow on elevated tracks..
Why was it poor air quality
@@sweetmyth2537 Leaded Gasoline was still sold at the gas pumps, vehicles did not have Cat Converters, ; PCV valves, and other emission equipment. Cars, Trucks Buses, aircraft, and industry had all contributed to the problem back in the '60s and '70s.

I'll never forget the first time i saw an r68 G train back in 2011. It was a huge foam to be introduced on the G line. The wonderful, astonished feeling i had. Such a wonderful sight to see. Now the r68 G trains will be forever missed.
All those great rides on the R68S/R68A and R46 G trains were truly unforgettable
What is a R68S ?
I rode an R68A on the G just before the replacement. I’m glad I did. Those older trains are awesome
So much of my childhood spent on these trains between Smith/9th and Flushing Ave...
These trains are classics I remember riding them when I was a kid.
The first R46 was delivered in 1975, 46 years ago! I remember them when they were new. How time flys when the 1990s ended 22 years ago next month.
I don't know why they removed r68 and r46 on the g line, I still wanted to see them running!! No no no!!😪😔
I miss riding the R46's, R68's and R68A's on the (G) Line, just like I miss riding R32 Phase II on the (G) Line too. Now. It's time to move on that (G) is fully R160's like the (E), (F) and (R) Line's. It reminds me like R62A leaving on the (7) Line too.

I mean, you can't exactly say goodbye to R160 N Q W's because they've been happening a lot recently even after the swap due to the R46s being crackheads. (what else is new, those are garbage on the N anyway).
@@kevinflores4045 No, the R143s are only 8 cars, specified for Eastern Division (J, Z, M, L).
@@R160BExpress44 In a nutshell, 8 75ft cars is the same as 10 60ft cars. Therefore, yes, the R143s cannot serve any lines other than the Eastern Division because of the shorter length.
If someone talks about the G line, I immediately imagine an R68/A 😰 They just belong to the crosstown

I usually expect an R68 when I’m on the Culver Line (G), only to be surprised by an R160.
Love the big green G. Spectacular footage at 1:30. I believe I rode these cars on the A and F in the early 80s? - and the R32s on the GG back then… Good stuff!

By using R160 trains, the number of doors per train has increased form 32 to 40.
Having SMEE's units back on the G line is gonna be extremely Unlikely to happen because the Culver line is getting CBTC in 2027 after Queens Boulevard after Culver gets CBTC the Lexington Avenue line will get CBTC
Currently Queens Boulevard and Culver are on the works for CBTC's right now

The arrived April 1975 in my HS senior year. They were pristine with all the bells and whistles. 3 years of semi-automatic operation were cut short. These abused cars were later rebuilt, only to be downgraded in speed. ATO was on E3/4 on the Sea Beach. A disgraceful shame.

i had to deal with the R46 now when i rode the N to school, now i take the bus because its faster easier and more convinent
I mean they didn't get upgraded because the r160 ran on the g line multiple times and it's not new to some people.But it did get upgraded because the e160 is daily to see
Can't wait to see the R211As in passenger service next summer of 2022. They'll first go to the A and C lines, then the N, Q, W, and Rockaway Shuttle lines since they are still using R46s.

R32s used be on G line in the 80s I used to ride them to 63rd Drive then most train lines were shortened , the G line used to go the 71st Street
I remember the G using 6 R46s. Then it got cut to 4 when the V train came about. District 5 is all the Queens lines and now Queens Blvd is CBTC it was a matter of time before the G got new techs. Maybe it'll go back to Continental now since it's out of Jamaica Yard again.
Aside from train deadheads (which will carry no passengers), there are no plans for G trains to carry passengers on the Queens Blvd Line. Riders can use the E, F, M, and R trains, which will continue to make all regular stops and pick up riders. As of now, G trains on Queens Blvd will be off limits to riders.

I used to ride these R68 and R46s to Clinton-Washington all the time, Lol, but I do remember seeing some kind of R160 sign-looking thing in one of the many R68 cars I’ve ridden, is that rare? Please give some answers!

Not exactly how I wanted to see the R46s go out like this.. The (G) Train era that I know had those 6200's-6258, with 6 cars.. One set of those 6200s should've ran there on the last day of R46 (G) Trains. Those are the only R46s I like.

Are they still running OPTO on the weekends? They not allowed to operate OPTO with the R 160s since the five care trains is over 300 feet
5-Car R160s are 300 feet trains, since each car length is 60 feet long (apposed to the R46 and R68/A, which are 75 feet in length per car, requiring 4-Cars to make 300 feet trains)

@@horny99845 Pretty sure you meant 1.5 feet over instead of 61.5 feet over (latter would mean an entire train car was added, aka a 6-Car train). Also, by MTA standard, car length values are rounded to the nearest foot, meaning while the cars are indeed 60 feet and 2.5 inches, by the standard they are 60 feet length trains, thus causing the rounded length of the trains to be 300 feet instead of the actual value of 301.5 feet. As the union is also okay with using the rounded values rather than actual values, they also recognize the 5-Car R160s as 300 feet trains, so OPTO is still allowed on late nights and weekends on the G.

@@R160BExpress44 The G used the 6-Car marker for 4-Car trains and continues to with the 5-Car trains, though some would need to be adjusted since they were adjusted for the 300 feet trains in 2014
@@superbrownsheep3777 The R160s running on the G are not a dedicated fleet. Rather, these 90 cars are rotated with other Jamaica Yard-based lines, meaning that the same unit running on the G today could be seen on another line, so 6-car NTTs can’t happen unless the fleets are specifically assigned to that line.
In addition, there is an alternative to adding an extra G train of the same length to the schedule.

@@r62aguy85 Tbh, he's right. I personally dislike the R46 cars, and I like the R68/A cars, which looked good on the G, but the NTT's are better for the MTA as they improve service and convenience for riders such as CBTC and other features that older trains lack.
@@Aatrixian have you seen the problems CBTC has caused ? They are actually doing the opposite of what they are meant to do so it’s actually better off to be without CBTC if you look at the lines that were negative affected by CBTC the 7 and L so it’s actually better off to leave things the way they were also R46 are great subway cars don’t see why they get so much hate and they are doing fine on their assigned Lines

@@r62aguy85 I can totally agree with you on that, as an everday rider of the 7 line, I've seen delays on the 7 which are mostly caused by signal malfunctioning, this doesn't happen that often but it sure happens at anytime, especially during rush hours, it get's so crowded.
I hate the CBTC Signaling
It ruined the Broadway and Bkyn-Queens Crosstown lines
You can blame constant crowding and delays for that.
Also what did Broadway have to do with CBTC? all they did was swap fleets with each other. Plus everyone should be used to CBTC by now.
