You should consider making a video on birth control next! A lot of people are confused and misinformed about how many of these methods actually work, especially ones that have a high efficacy rate like LARCs.
I second this, especially teach about how they're also used to help period regulation issues!
@@Tori_T_Artist yeah I...third this. I'd love to hear about all the most popular forms of birth control pills since I don't know much about them as a guy
Yes! That and/or other uses of abortifacients. For example, Mifepristone can be used to treat Cushing's syndrome. Women (who aren't pregnant) are being denied life-saving medicine just because they have wombs now.
Yes yes yes! I told my sister that the sugar pills are optional and you can just take the birth control pills indefinitely with no problems, and she told her friends after she looked it up to verify it, and none of them had ever heard of that before. I'm not even on birth control, I just follow OBGYNs online
I feel like making a video about abortion pills may have promoted the misconception that contraceptive pills cause abortion. By the way, I don't like the term "birth control" as it has nothing to do with birth, it prevents conception. Also, "birth control" literally means preventing birth, which includes abortion too, thus promoting the misconception that contraceptive pills cause abortion.
P.S. You may say that contraceptive pills have something to do with birth since they prevent it by preventing conception, but that's not a real connection. If you're going to say that, you might as well say that contraceptive pills have something to do with child abuse, since they prevent it by preventing unwanted children from being conceived. Yes, that is more far-fetched, but not that much more, since a newborn baby can be abused.
Shouldn't you explain the difference between and "abortion pill" and the "morning after" pill? I could see some confused individual not realizing these are TOTALLY DIFFERENT medications/processes.
That's why the video is about abortion pills, not morning after
Yep, I feel like this would be a great idea for an other video. In a time where misinformation is rampant it’s important to have good educational videos :)
@@YagoStecher but you and I are aware enough to understand that concept. The type of person who DOESN'T understand is exactly the type of person who would benefit from a single line in the beginning of the script clarifying this pill is very different from the morning after pill.
Yes, a follow up video is definitely in order.
A follow-up video is definitely needed. In my area (or perhaps my generation) is far more familiar with the morning after pill to the degree that I thought that was what the video was about until a minute or so in. Both are important tools, and deserve their own videos.

Most people in the US support abortion to some degree. A bunch of people in positions of power may support banning it, but the general population overwhelming doesn't. Also worth noting this video was entirely apolitical in content. That's not necessarily a good thing all the time, but given how straightforward & factual it is, there's kinda nothing a reasonable person could take issue with.
Please be aware that the abortion pill is causing a miscarriage, and that can be incredibly traumatising. Having been to family planning with my partner when we were in this situation, and gone through the route of a medical abortion in a clinic, it's far less stressful than being home alone having a miscarriage in the shower.
If you can, please talk to a medical professional about your options. I understand the delicate situation in the US right now, but even if you need to make a phone call to a doctor in another state, talk to someone about the process and consequences. We were very glad to have had the option of the clinic rather than going home with the pill.
Wow I didn’t know that was an option! I was completely alone and it sucked, especially the amount of blood. I think that’s great if more places allow in clinic!
@@GoodestKittyIn most states in Australia the clinic is available and subsidised by the government so you don't even have to pay a cent. There's pre-and post counselling available and laws preventing protest action within 100m of an abortion clinic. It's a totally different mindset.
The pill is to cause an abortion. The medicine makes the fetus bag detach from the lining of the uterus.

Thanks for your comment, Tony James!
Yes, everybody should be aware that even if it sounds easy ("just take some pills and everything is gone"), in reality the emotional consequences can be huge.
Don't take abortion too easy, never! Especially not men.
A girl came in to our Planned Parenthood and asked for a morning after pill, they got her one and she literally said "wow, you can just get abortion medicine like that" and walked out. Like. What. They were too stunned to correct her.

@@ViolentAurora You people astound me. I don't get how you could say that. It makes absolutely no sense.
@@heycj That's how it works. By the way, good to see you CJ. Been a while.
@@heycj I understand how someone who isn't well educated in the medical field or any science wouldn't understand. When a morning after pill is taken, the egg is still just an egg. It's possible a sperm has entered it, but it's not attached to the uterine wall. The morning after pill DOES NOT terminate existing pregnancies.

How does ingrows work? for example ingrown nail or hair. I've experienced ingrown toenail and it was horrible, months of medium pain and EXTREME pain during surgery even after they gave me twice the normal dose of painkillers, removed half of it and I still sometimes fell it a little bit
Not a professional, but ingrown toenails happen when you cut your nail too short, and your nail grows into the skin beside your nailbed instead of just going past. You can prevent this by waiting to trim your nails until they're past the skin that borders your nail, and by putting a string under your nail to hold it up over the skin so it grows on top instead of digging into the skin.
I don't really know much about ingrown hairs, other than the fact that, again, the skin blocks the hair from growing outward. Hair and nails are very similar (I believe keratin plays a role in both?), it's just that it's easier to prevent ingrown toenails than ingrown hairs - or, at the very least, I'm ignorant in the former regard
@@lyrablack8621 Some people have thicker skin and shallower roots, too, making it easier to get ingrowns. Some others yet have awkwardly shaped roots or digits that can cause toenails to always be ingrown and they have to have the entire nail removed to prevent infection, which I know because this trait unfortunately runs in my family.
Somebody already said about ingrown nails, so here's ingrown hairs:
When you shave, hair will sometimes grown back but fail to get through the skin for one reason or another. Often times just missing the pore. When this happens, the hair doesn't stop growing, causing it to continue to grow under the skin. Luckily, easy to fix, by just pulling the hair out.
I will add that if you cannot help but keep your nails trimmed shorter than you should (as I do because I cannot stand the sensation of anything but very short fingernails and pull my socks so tight that my toenails quickly cut holes in my socks if I don't), making extra sure that the corners are smoothly rounded so that as they grow they slide over the skin rather than digging in is vitally important.
Also, if by over trimming or a nail breaking you're in a situation where you see a nail starting to get ingrown, going in to remove the corner of that nail so it's pushing against the skin at as shallow an angle as possible and cutting back (with a nail clipper) any of the excess epidermis that is starting to roll over the nail can help reduce the pressure driving it down into the skin.
Be careful with that, obviously. In trimming the skin go slow. The skin I'm talking about trimming is strictly a thick bulge of epidermis, so you won't even feel pressure when you start squeezing the clippers. Go very gently at first and if you feel anything at all, stop because you're trying to clip off too much and will actually cut living skin if you keep squeezing. Done correctly, it should be functionally no different than trimming off a hangnail.
As with many things, though, the most important thing is paying attention to your body. If you're prone to getting ingrown nails, checking to make sure you're not developing one every time you shower can save you a lot of pain later.
(Shoes being too tight can also be a risk factor, of course)
This feels like a little nudge to all those who get denied hospital abortions.
Very informative video 👍
I agree. I had sympathetic pity for all the women in the US, where the landmark decision by the Supreme Court had struck down federal and state laws on abortion. With some states taking a stance against abortion, there are women who will feel that their right to abortion is restricted.
@@alphaapple1375 "there are women who will feel that their right to abortion is restricted" That is quite a euphemism, considering that some states have already banned abortions
@AlphaApple I’m in America and I can say without a doubt that our Supreme Court and others in charge are f*cked up
This is for the people who think, that abortion should be a criminal offense:
As if every abortion would have had a happy and loving life expectancy of 100%??
Just because mothers are not getting abortions, doesn't mean, that their baby gets a life of love.
When abortion wasn't a thing, there where plenty of babies and small children, that simply ended up in trashcans and buried somewhere and left somewhere, burnt, thrown in the river,... Like just because you prevent one thing, doesn't always cause for another. And it's better to have abortion then hurt someone who actually feels it happen.
I dont think you understand the motives.
Barely anyone actually cares about the fetuses - and when they do, they are hugely misinformed.
The real basis of the problem is people pushing religious believes. Theyre simply tryina make sex a christian marriage restricted thing. They hope to put women in fear of having sex at all as they could possibly mess up their entire lives without a way out.
That, and also to "own the libs".
If it were any other way and people actually cared, abortion bans wouldnt be the only thing being pushed - it would be rather extensive support to single mothers and an improval of the adoption system.
sometimes its not even their fault too, like if the contraception failed whether thats condoms or pills. cant force someone to go through pregnancy if theyre uncomfortable and scared
Because a feotus can't feel? How would you know?
Probably because it hasnt developed a brain yet and pretty sure 99% of feelings come from the brain@@gwenmonteiro7665

So long as the US postal system is preserved and protected from state meddling

The fear of said serious complications might.
Lack of access to good information alone is enough to stop people from being able to do things in most cases. It's hard to access a pill you don't know exists in the first place and harder still when you don't know someone you can rely on to help you access information about medication safely.

People in the comments need to realize that everyone is from the US and that the US isn't the default. Saying stuff like "there are certain things happening right now" in this comment section shows that Americans think they are the default and everyone else on the internet also is. That said, this video is very good 👍
“everyone is from the US”
Lol chill weirdo
There are certain things happening right now. When the consequences are severe enough and/or the number of people affected is large enough, those things are matters of global concern because we are all part of humanity. That applies to the US. That applies to Ukraine. It applies in all sorts of places.
And that's not even getting into the global threat posed by the world's superpower rapidly sliding into open fascism which is a matter of global concern no matter where it starts manifesting.
When Bolivia had a fascist coup, it was also news that garnered global attention. When China started throwing Uighurs in concentration camps it was also global news.
This isn't just a US thing in this case.

Wait, if Misoprostol just causes contractions, why is there a 10 week limit and not 99% effective within that window? Why not 15? 30? 35 weeks? I'm not a doctor so I could be missing on critical information, but I would think causing premature contractions would end a pregnancy. Is it that when taken too late the contractions don't expel a uterus's contents? Do they just sort of get stuck at the exit?
I think (im not sure bc im also no a doctor) but i think probably at that point the zygote has already started multiplying and theres actually a fetus there, but then again im not sure, but it seems most likely
I’m no doctor either, but I’d think that complications and risks are more common and/or serious the later the pill(s) are administered?
Hi, also not a doctor, but after looking into it a bit, I think it's actually a hormone thing as pregnancy has stages. The first trimester is at the highest risk of natural miscarriage since if the body deems the pregnancy non-viable (whether mom wants to or not) it will drop the pregnancy. Since the process of miscarrying and pill-based abortions are the same the pills should work. Past a certain point though, the body has committed to the pregnancy and probably puts hormonal and physical barriers in place. Like I know there's a mucus plug that keeps things from getting past the cervix but also keeps anything from getting out. It's the "bloody show" when labour starts since the body ejects it so baby can come out.
Also no expert. But I do know that at some point the embryo directly attaches to the uterus wall, and forms blood vessel connections with the pregnant persons blood stream via the placenta. I would imagine that as soon as that starts this procedure would become less effective, or maybe too dangerous. In the early stages the embryo is just a few cells living directly off the uterus lining so seems like can be safely removed along with that
I’m also not a doctor, but I have a lot of feelings and I like to be included.
This was a very informative video, thank you!

Thanks @MinuteEarth for posting this video. Here are the viewpoints expressed by Supreme Court justices regarding abortion rights.
Abortion is a controversial issue in the US, with some people believing it ends a human life, and others believing it is a woman's right to choose. For most of US history, each state has been allowed to make its own laws on abortion.
In 1973, the Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade established a nationwide right to abortion, based on the Constitution. However, this decision was based on incorrect information and is not widely accepted.
Roe v. Wade ended the process of states gradually liberalizing their abortion laws, and instead imposed a highly restrictive regime on the entire nation. This decision has caused a lot of political division in the US.
In 1992, the Supreme Court revisited Roe v. Wade in the case Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pa. v. Casey. The Court did not endorse Roe v. Wade's reasoning, but ruled that stare decisis (precedent) required adherence to Roe v. Wade's 'central holding' that states cannot constitutionally protect fetal life before viability.
The Constitution does not mention abortion, and there is no right to abortion implied by any constitutional provision.
I don't think, "For more information," has ever been so full of import as this.

How can we get this pills
This is awsome, and so convenient. I have a quick question for anyone whos an expert in this field. How does pill based abortions affect the chance of pregnancy in the future and growth of a baby? For instance if someone had 2 pill based abortions and wanted to have a pregnancy 2-3 years in the future would it affect the growth?
From the data I've seen, there's no known effect. Certainly surgical abortions have absolutely no effect on future fertility!
Mama Doctor Jones recently made a good video on this topic which I think answers your question.
As I understand it, it doesn't affect your fertility because it's the same process as a miscarriage. In the same way that someone who has had a naturally occurring miscarriage can still go on to have a healthy full-term pregnancy.
It's not the miscarriage itself affecting the chances of having children, but whatever is causing the miscarriages. When the cause is a medication, this isn't going to happen in the future wanted pregnancy.
Miscarriages are actually fairly common, they just aren't talked about often. These pills are also sometimes used for people who are trying to have children, but whose current pregnancy isn't viable for whatever reason.
I highly recommend not asking for medical support in the youtube comment section

@@georgplaz I would say it's ok to ask so long as you take everything with a massive grain of salt, and use it more as guidance for other sources (which are again taken with a massive grain of salt.)
I've had to order these meds and lots of IUDs lately.
I'd like it if we could get a better solution to the problem. I'm not a woman but that's not super great, stillbetter than the coat hanger but.. Yeah.. Anyways thanks for explaining and please explain " the morning pill ".

Yeah you can..
My parents go to a clinical to end unwanted pregnancies
You use the plural? How often do they need to do that? There are condoms you know!
