It’s magic. Using the QC as an audio interface aggregated with 2x other interfaces in my setup. For flexibility I built some presets that have dry./ wet and super-wet outs simultaneously, super wet are delays, reverb etc. that allow mixing them further in the daw. Using the dry signal to quickly re-amp things through the QC, using different patches or using the NDSP plugins in the daw.
More videos like this please!! Where you show your process of writing a song from scratch :) Awesome video, Thank you so much for showing us your process.
Amazing video! I knew that the QC had the capability to be used as an audio interface, but I never thought that the signal could be sent back via the usb to the QC. That opens so much possibilities. even to use outboard gear in the QC loops.
Would be an interesting challenge to also mix with the QC as outboard gear. It has an 1176, SSL bus comp, an opto, EQs etc You might even be able to monitor the mix bus with the SSL bus comp while still working on individual tracks and bouncing those one after another. Also now with CorOS 3 enabling sidechain compression, you could even use it as a de-esser.
it really is awesome getting to save all the processing in your computer by running everything through QC. such a sweet workflow, and the song is sick as well!!
Thanks!! I’m fortunate enough to not need to save processing power in my computer anymore, but it’s also just fun to try sounds I don’t have plug-ins for 😁
I wish i could have the chance to even jam with Josh. I respect naturally he's got his own visions in how he approaches this art undoubtedly. He really is his own ascended version of a guitarist, a frequency theorist with no limits when it comes to providing emotion to complexity. I respect the technicalities of his gear as he articulates those intricacies. What drives me to appreciate him as a musician is how he encapsulates the competency of his knowledgeable perspective with improv and waves for melodic communication. As a primarily identified Drummer while being a keys player and somewhat a dabbling guitarist in micro-experiences, i got to say in drumming, i see the appeal in why Matt loves to assist in brushing the textures they solidify as a pair of musicians that appreciate each other melodical and, i suppose sonically. I hope this comment ages well, cause i dont like to talk much. Also. Learning to pan right now with the NobixForce which feels weird isolating, but I'm starting to feel in real-time how it's an important factor towards recognizing the musicians you're working with. Thanks for sharing your feels and knowledgeable perspectives, Josh.
@@trystankaes7486 I think the parent comment may be written by an LLM - that's why it makes no sense, and even hallucinated up some NobixForce with which they are "learning to pan right now"...
Absolutely beautiful! This is my second video of yours so I don’t know if you have music on Amazon or iTunes, but I’m going to look. I could listen to this stuff all day. 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾🎸🔥
Great playing, and very inspiring original compositions! I subscribed to your channel after one video on layering guitars. I use a Helix floor model directly into Logic Pro via USB, and like to layer it with tracks from my little collection of guitars and Arturia Keylab 49 plugged into Logic (USB) for additional synths and bass sounds. I've never tried it plugged directly into my monitors. However, I'm looking at moving away from hardware modellers and analog mixer consoles and getting into digital. Helix Native has tremendous possibilities without the desktop clutter. If I change out my SSL 2+ interface (a very good unit when I was beginning!) I'll likely consider going top drawer for an RME Fireface or possibly a UFX 3 if recording with others. But the main reason is because RME features Total Mix, an onboard digital mixer that is highly versatile and respected by pros. RME supports even its oldest gear with firmware updates. Digital modellers and mixers mean that your studio desk is clean and uncluttered. Some people like the look of hundreds of faders and console knobs, but analog gear isn't cheap and is distinctly a product of last century.
Watched the vid and here to say something nice! This workflow seems very promising for people like myself that doubt their decisions when making music. I most definitely have to try this!
I was using my Line 6 as an interface before diving down the Neural rabbit hole and getting 3 plugins. I liked their sound and streamlined nature more than building line 6 presets. Plus, the option of recording a DI that you can tinker with made it a no brainer to go solely plugins. I ended up selling my line 6 and got a cheap behringer interface with fits my space with its smaller form factor. I also sold my suhr and got one of the Emi 8's when they dropped. Bringing an 8 to church gigs and blues jams feels out of place so that killed my need for a live audio setup. When I do financially recover from getting into photograph (fuji xs10 with 18-55 kit) I'll probably save my way to a custom build 6 string and the QC. Until then I'm perfectly content with plugins.
have you used the Quad Cortex as audio interface for vocal recording? Not many presets for VOX on there and wonder if you found something or created a preset for vox that you liked. thanks for the vid!
This is so sick! I just got a QC and this is exactly how I was hoping to apply it to my workflow. Do you ever record DIs and print the tone afterwards? I'm trying to think of the best way to get DIs while recording with it.
@@nickbroomhallmusic Yes, you can directly record from the QC's input 1 (or 2) onto one track and from whatever USB out you set on the grid to another track. So you don't have to route the DI inside the QC separately. You only worry about the processed sound on the QC's grid and record the DI separately in the background by selecting "Input 1" on the DI track in Logic.
Such a great work! Thanks, never used QC for Grove bass, definitely something I will try. Quick off-top question: why do you have UA language input set in your system?😊
Awesome Tutorial / Video! Keep up that work ... I'd really like to see more videos from you. Just two quick questions - as I'm setting up my Cortex as my main interface too (replacing my UR-RT2): 1.) What stand are you using for your cortex on your desktop? 2.) Do you have tips/ a guide for setting up the routing of the cortex as a daw main-interface (speakers, headphone mix, di-signal/amped signal)?
I've been having a grand ol time experimenting with mixing/matching plugin elements just in the FX chain of my guitar channel in the DAW. Asato Amps into Rebea cabs back into Asato Tape Delay into Rabea Delay and Reverb. It would be fantastic if Neural developed an interface/system for doing this like you're describing and doing with the Cortex system.
Absolutely necessary. Even if it is oversampling internally, but being uncompatible to existing 96khz projects is a bummer for recording guitars and bass.
96kHz makes a difference, we can actually get this by using analog outputs. But it's POST DA = it's a nonsense :) In this price-range converters should have 96kHz as a standard
Very cool, though I guess I would be more interested in seeing something more crazy like using the quad cortex as a vst3 plugin instead. So, recording direct to any interface, add the non-existent plugin to the track, and now the track's audio is processed by the quad cortex
Great song Josh! I really liked it! I think the only drawback of this workflow for me would be forgetting which preset I used for which instrument (see 19:06), especially if I'm returning to a project after several months :) Congrats!
I don’t know about other DAWs but Logic has a notepad feature to save info about your sessions within your project. It’s super helpful for the point you bring up
