Cool I get it....I really like Glen Camble as my guilty pleasure...his later albums like ghost on the canvas and adios are really good and an amazing lead guitar player. Such a shame he was taken by dementia. Saw him live in UK at the start of his illness and he forgot a few things but his family were there to help him and he still played that guitar and sang so well.
Very talented man and very missed by many 😌

Hi Nathan. Dave from London here. I'm with you on both pop (although my favoured era is the 60s) and bluegrass - both Nickel Creek and Alison Krauss. I also like Weyes Blood and I have her Titanic Rising album.
One type of music I don't like is post punk, but Cardiacs add so much more and their City of God album is quite extraordinary.
If you like acapella harmonies, then Jacob Collier is worth exploring. And a really left field choice is Libera. They're a boys choir (which is definitely not my bag) but their music is quite modern, maybe new age, with synth washes, and is really relaxing and hypnotic. Recommended tracks Vespera, Lux Aeterna.

Interesting exercise. Based on your selections, you like pop a lot more than I do. However, one pop artist (though I hate that term) that stands out for me is Norwegian singer/songwriter/producer Aurora. She is very unique in pretty much every way, from her voice to her songwriting to even her personality. Although she does have some straight pop songs, she dabbles in many musical realms, particularly on her latest album, "What Happened to the Heart?"

I love Opeth's clean vocal stuff. I've given harsh vocals a try multiple times from many bands. I just burst out laughing every time. It's just so dumb to me. Literally like the cookie monster doing an album as a joke.
Not a pop fan either, but I do like the occasional song. Dua Lipa's Levitate, Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis and Unstoppable by Sia are a few...
I want to check out Dirty Loops. Sounds fun.

I generally have to drag myself kicking and screaming to listen to modern pop music, but I have found myself seriously getting into Florence + the Machine. It's good to surprise yourself once in a while.

For progressive bluegrass try "Twisted Pine" and "AJ Lee and Blue Summit".

Great topic! Like you, I primarily listen to Prog, as well as classic rock, but also like many other artists and styles of music, some going back many years, others more recently. I agree with you regarding Nickel Creek and more contemporary bluegrass, as bluegrass has always been a style I liked and these modern artists give it some new dimensions. I also am a fan of acapella music, and have followed and enjoyed Pentatonix since their emergence on the acapella competition show The Sing-Off. Some others outside of the prog and rock categories for me would include Sara Bareilles, who I think is the best songwriter and vocalist among modern female vocalists, Barenaked Ladies, who are so much fun and, again, great pop songwriters and performers, Ben Folds, another fantastic songwriter and musician, and Guster, great indie pop-rock band. But probably my recent #1 of this type is Cloud Cult, who do a sort of Symphonic Folk (with some prog elements), who do sensational personal, emotional, and inspiring music (and who recently released another fantastic album, Alchemy Creek, following their previous wonderful album, Metamorphosis. Great stuff a bit outside of prog and prog-related.

Agree with Nickel Creek. Great band. My dad was big into traditional bluegrass so even though I am a prog person I have a soft spot for bluegrass music and Nickel Creek brings it into a more modern era. A couple other bands/artists I really like that are outside prog would be Toad the Wet Sprocket and Aimee Mann. Just some great tunes.
