I agree, if you haven't already made that video to review again in a bit greater detail (like a quick 2:00 to 3:00 minute tutorial that includes a few "money shots" where you land on a target), you totally should. There are a few other videos out there, but yours would rule them all. You make top quality tree cutting vids with excellent explanations, efficient editing, and way more charisma than the other ones out there. As always, thanks for sharing what you do!!
You guys are the best. I've been a climber for about 4 years now and have moved between 4 companies because there is literally no other way to get a raise in the industry here in California (among other reasons).
I dream that some day I'll get to work alongside people who's company I enjoy, as I've found that the people are really the most important thing in this industry.
I'm starting to believe that I may only achieve this dream(having non-garbage coworkers) is by starting my own company, which is super intimidating.
I watch your videos with envy as you guys seem to have good chemistry, have fun doing the job, but are also pretty relaxed (not being put under production pressure by the office). I don't know how things really are with your crew but just based on your videos I've watched, you guys seem solid. Not to mention its always the same guys over the last few years which is a huge sign they like their co workers and are being treated with respect.
The industry here in cali has over 100% turnover rate for climbers, don't believe the lies on their websites(they all say its 50% but they're accounting for better paid foreman, GF, and supervisor roles which are technically field ops, to offset the groundman turnover which is like 300%)... If a company is always hiring, you don't want to work there.
On a lighter note, I love that you use modern tree cutting techniques, its like a real life demonstration of a lot of Jeff Jepson's "To Fell a Tree."
Colin S Good luck finding a decent outfit to work for. Nothing is more critical for a working man (afterfinding the right woman).
I'd also evaluate the capital equipment owned/leased by a company & equipment maintainence as added factors to judge a tree outfit but turnover is clearly the chief factor.
A lot of counties and some NorCal cities have fellers on their payroll. You might explore that avenue.

I have used that measuring method often. It is sweet! One big sweet gum tree I dropped here in MO was just under 40" at DBH and the top leaves just brushed the porch. PS. you all make great videos. I train staff and volunteers here at our nonprofit and am sending them your videos before our next felling class. Thanks and stay safe out there.

Ss s boy, long ago I remember my father telling stories about his days as a lumberjack in the 1930’s before he was drafted in WW2 in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. It seems he was very fond of those days. He was a tree climber, tree topper, 5’8” tall and probably 130lbs. I imagine those old trees were tall! What was the purpose of topping a tree before it was cut down? I really enjoy your videos.

I’ve used a speed square to eyeball the tree height, but never a stick. How’s that work?

Obviously a video would be better, but I hope this description can be helpful. Firstly you need to get a stick as long as your arm and relatively straight (Garden canes work well). You then need to extend your arm holding your arm horizontal (at the base of the tree) and the stick vertical. If the top of the tree lines up with the top of the stick (see 2.04) you're standing where the top of the tree will land. If not, walk away from the tree until the stick and tree line up. Good luck!
