I've watched a ton of tree felling videos and have learned from a few of them, however you have a way of explaining the process that I had never heard before. Well done, young man!
I watched your video today and went outside to cut down a tree next to my house. I never heard of the idea of a hinge and where to place it. Tree fell exactly where I wanted it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
"I cheat, I have a felling line on my saw" sir that's called working smarter and harder. This video was very very detailed and very informative and is proof of why good arborists cost what they do and why they are worth every penny. Great job.
"As simple as that!' LOL! I'm having a coronary just sitting and watching this! Skills. Stick with what you're good at and leave the rest to those who're good at what they do.
I am a do it yourself, but this is something that I will defer to the pros like you. The way you fell them with such precision was a great example of how your pay is not for the cutting, it is for the thinking.

You have a new fan living quite a long way away, United Kingdom. Your teaching style is exceptional and you really do have a gift for delivering the message in easy everyday terms. I love your tutorial. Many many thanks 😊
This is the best video for felling trees I've seen. I felled a 30 footer right next to my house with great success but it probably took me three times as long as a pro. Usually I only fell dead gum trees in Australia for firewood. Up to forty to fifty feet high but always in bushland away from buildings. I always look up and check for branches and have a good escape route. And I never fell trees thicker than say, twelve to fourteen inches. Leave the big trees for the pros. Dead gum trees that are very dry, can also suddenly fall down when cutting for a hinge, so sometimes I just cut the 45 degree cut at the front and then do the back cut. They fall very easily.
Nice to see someone who not only knows which techniques to use when but why they work. This video had a couple of techniques I hadn't seen before, such as the "logger's glue" and the "palm tree" cut. Boring through the hinge to make room for a wedge was a good tip too.
Thanks to your precise instruction I felled a hickory that took a long time to complete the 60° wedge. It landed right where we planned and the small target small error concept really helped.
Thanks very much for these videos I’m training myself on how to use a chainsaw a and how to cut trees down safely. All the knowledge you need in these videos and lots of practice and you can go make your self a lot of money!!!
Good quality content. Not just somebody filming a pro at work. Actually described what you were looking at, what your plan was, why your plan was, and step by step tips along the way. All filmed nicely so we can see what you were intending us to see. Well done. Subscribed, so your content will pop up on my feed again. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your video! I and many people are grateful that tree-felling experts are willing to freely give out this knowledge too the public. It's just one of the many puzzle pieces of what makes the internet the greatest invention.
Excellent videos fellas. I’m not horned up to fell any trees near my house, but it’s cool to see how you pros make it happen. Makes me want to have 9 lives so I can just go experiment without the fear of dying.
wow.... I'm a novice... only done two tiny trees in middle of a large field... you utterly inspire me ... but i am in no rush.... am willing to take it slow and wait years to get the experience reqd... its great to watch how much pride and enjoyment you get from your work and your teaching... thank you for sharing
Have to say what a craftsman you are , really enjoy watching this . Great job looking at this sat here in good old Blighty . As a carpenter I use this product each day . Great skills
I actually saw you use that bore for the wedge method in a "short", and I had not seen that used before, so came for a look at the channel and like what i see. Thank you for sharing! I just had a swag of trees removed from around my house, hollow, rotten, dodgy things. I had a professional in to do it, but I probably would for anything that could hit the house. I am quite happy to drop my own trees as needed further away from the house.
Really nice to see professional, knowledgeable people making safe and thoughtful videos. You know the right ways for sure. Tell your help to remember to look up when banging away on a wedge. I sure it was ok for that tree, but it won't always be that safe. You need to watch the crown for a number of reasons, but you know that I am sure. Like you said, it takes time for the tree to catch up.. ..Anyways, great vid.
Excellent video! Your explanation it great. All cuts were textbook! Had never seen boring through the face cut before but what a great idea! You make the cuts look easy and I know from experience that a slight mistake can cost $$$. You and Guilty of Treeson have best videos online due to detailed explanations. Thanks again!
Really dig these videos Super thorough. 5 stars & 10/10 Idk your target audience but if its for beginners and DIY folks, hear me out below. I mean this only constructively.. if you were to slow it down, I feel like I'd catch 40% more of everything you're teaching. You say very beneficial, thoroughly explained things but also very quickly; and in combination, you're also speaking your tree language. So for newbies its hard to follow if the words don't get explained along the way. But don't listen to anyone on the web either lol Thank you so much for the videos man, I learned a lot!
Great video. Really enjoy your method of breaking down the process and explaining the why behind your choices. I would love to continue to see you break down and explain in detail different methods to achieve safe results with complicated trees. I have lots of heavy learners and dead trees that are hung up on other trees. Barber chairs and hollow cores are some of my biggest challenges as I try to reclaim our forest behind our house. Thanks for the great content.
Great info. thank you for taking the time to explain this so clearly! Watching this to better understand how the guys I have are going to fell the trees next to my house.
You're way more confident than me! Just wedges. Wow. I've built an air fired line shooter and put a line way up first without climbing, pull up a heavy rope, then with a pully to pull in the direction I want but not towards my winch, I'll winch in to tension the top a little. Then face cut 45 degrees under, with the straight on top. Then tighten the winch. Back cut. Have my helper winching in and I leave a very thick hinge and let the winch pull it over. For me, I'm not experienced enough to know exactly where the tree's going with just cutting and wedges. That line is real easy to predict where the tree's going. I'm no pro, so spending an hour on setup for the winch isn't a problem. I practice on leaners in the woods so no matter where the tree goes, it's not going to cause some massive issue.
Thanks for the video. You gave some good tips. I have fell a few trees but I never had to worry about hitting something. I do have a couple that are right against my garage that need to come down. I guess your tips will come in handy. They are 50' tall pines and planted real close together. When one dies, the other trees hold them up. Thanks again from north west Wis..
I love your channel. Excellent. I was just working with multi trunk Leland Cypress near fences and homes- things did not always go as planned but no damage or injuries, thank God. Any videos with tips?
That's some real nice advanced techniques.. Gonna be watching a few more of your videos to look for those tips n' tricks.. As always, stay protected ..
Great work. When the tree is leaning the wrong way, is there a rule of thumb where too much of a lean won't be able to be corrected by using the wedge and the face boring? 5-10 degrees? Thanks...
The palm tree cut I like because if your felling in the woods and the tops get hung up you can cut the hinge on the hung up side to help it roll off the other tree but still stay partially hooked to the stump
Gosh, but I love watching experts. You make it look so easy. And then you explain the physics behind what you are planning and I realise that it is only easy (to you) because you have a great deal of competence based on much experience. You also enjoy what you do. My only complaint is that I had to wait 3 years since your last video 😁 Thanks for today's lessons. best wishes Derek
Nice work and instruction. I did logging on college breaks at my cousin's logging company in the 80s but we used a harvester in most cases to fell trees. Like said in the video have your escape route clear and you run faster and safer when you drop your saw. *I'd still call a pro to fell trees near buildings.* Don't be that guy who has to pay out of pocket for roof and structural damage to his house. HO made a good call getting you to down the trees tho not sure if he was prepared for the amount of non-firewood waste he had to haul off or chip with a home-owner sized chipper.
Really good instruction. What do you do if you get one that leans back on you and pinches your saw in place? I had one happen the other day. Luckily I was in the woods and the tree could fall the other way and not damage anything. I had planned for the tree to go the other way but got the blade pinched before I could wedge. I had a second saw and cut the open face and let it go the way I had not intended but watching your videos I can imagine a lot of bad things could have happened.
Cool Channel and very informative "subscribed and liked". Do you hake any vids on segmenting up a large (24'+ diameter) felled tree that is lying flat on the ground. Avoiding binding while top cutting or running the blade into dirt when its too large/heavy to roll/move/lift the tree around? Something like that.
I've watched a ton of tree felling videos and have learned from a few of them, however you have a way of explaining the process that I had never heard before. Well done, young man!
You took the words right out of my mouth. 👍
Hi

I've never seen anyone bore through a face cut before. This is a technique I'm definitely going to work on in the woods.
Thanks
Agree... but why not a tad high so step remains to prevent kickback.
Love your videos. Thank you

OMG. Such beautiful controlled safe precision! You make it look so easy.
Really interesting techniques. Always amazing watching a real professional do their work.

Finally a channel worth watching for doing this type of work 👍
Thank you for the methods that save lives. Had to rewind and do a double take several times. Awesome. New sub.
WOW placing that tree between the house and well head was awesome
That's some expert tree felling. That's tough to do it right next to the house. Great Job!

that palm tree boring was art. I live in Florida with a ton of palms and am looking forward to using it.

Nice instructions. I’m learning a ton as I begin to cut deadwood for firewood. Thank you
Thank you for videos. I learn more from your videos than any one else. Keep them coming😅
Its one thing to cut trees down in the woods.
A green tree near someone's home takes a good eye steady hand and a young agile mind!
Good job!
Thanks bob glad liked the video! Hope it helped 👍

Anyone who learns from this man will do verry well. Great video, verry entertaining.

Precise education... Felling trees close to buildings is risky business... Well Done. Thanks,,, BTW... In MI I paid $800/tree for the same service,
Great video and explanation! Please do a Video on how to start the nose of the bar into the tree and continue on through with the bore cut.
This guy is the best I've ever seen and has the ability to teach. How do I hire this man for a job?

Excellent job my brother, enjoyed watching you guys in action.
Very informative video. Found the answer I came for. Thank you for your clear explanation. I’m cutting on Tuesday. Wish me luck.👍🏻
I like that Palm Tree Cut.
I’ve used the Double Hinge aka Shark Gill
Boring cuts are exciting! (Not boring!)
