    Fantastic production sir, answered absolutely every question I had before I watched the video. I really appreciate your effort.

    Catamarans have trouble with side on seas. When one pontoon drops into the trough of the wave in rough seas many have been flipped.

    Great video. I have a sundance thats a shallow V. (Sundance is identical to a carolina skiff) Its well rounded for all bay boating. You didnt mention how small/ midsize V bottoms are tippy is some conditions and how flat bottoms are very stable while not under way. These flat bottoms can also have a high amount of load capacity because of their design making them great commercial work boats/ guide boats. But usually wont have as high of a HP rating as a V bottom. Pros and cons to every boat. Just wanted to add that😁

    You said at 1:12 that flat bottom boats tends to have the worst speed among the four. Wrong. flat bottom is the fastest among the four types because it is the only type capable of hydroplaning. You never mentioned hydroplaning in this video. All racing boats are flat bottom. Look at the drag boats and jet river boats, they are all flat bottom. The world's fastest RC boat is an out rigger type and it's flat bottom. Racing boats of Thailand are flat bottomed. Bangka boat racers of the Philippines are flat bottomed The rear part of a racing catamaran is flat because that is the area of the boat that starts to hydroplane at high speeds. Hydroplane racers are all flat bottom.(u)
    You forgot to mention hydroplane and hydroplaning.

    • @junnelcaballero6515
      @junnelcaballero6515 3 роки тому +1

      yes youre correct. here in the philippines racing bagka's are all flat bottom and even built extended about 3inches each side like wings. this creates less turbulence and drag. overall its definitely flat.

    • @chippyjohn1
      @chippyjohn1 2 роки тому +1

      Correct, flat bottom are the fastest on flat water, but in rough water the are too rough to maintain speed. Flat bottoms are king on rivers, also the reason fan boats use it.

    A lot of mistakes in this. Aluminium is more expensive than fibreglass for one, flat bottoms are the fastest on smooth water, the deeper the vee the more power it takes to get on plane. A flat bottom is common made of aluminium because it is stronger and easy the use a sheet of aluminium. Complex shaped hulls are often fibreglass because it is easier to work the material and is cheaper but not as strong or light weight.

    It was a nice video, but you skipped over the handling quite a bit. This is the major reason monohulls are often preferred. Cats don't have the central pivot point needed for the boat to lean into turns like a monohull -- cats remain flat(ish) in tight turns which throws occupants to the side. Other than that, nice explanations...

    • @szinski
      @szinski 5 років тому +1

      I agree, I've owned monohulls most of my life and love the tight and comfortable steering. A friend let me pilot his catamaran and it was very awkward to steer, lots of lateral movement during light and sharp turns, it felt very unnatural.

    • @ericulator391
      @ericulator391 5 років тому +3

      @@szinski Exactly. The only cat I've been in that handles remotely like a mono is a Freeman cat (which I would love to own!!).....

    • @gypana
      @gypana 5 років тому +7

      But he did say that there is many different types of boats out there that are built to suit everyone and their boating needs.Why would you buy a cat if you'er in river systems mostly and why would you be making tight turns cruising offshore? and the part about cats throwing occupants to the side in tight turns is false and you should stop spreading bullshit.The main reason catamarans aren't preferred is $$$$

    Flat Bottoms are the fastest and most fuel efficient, by a large margin.
    The problem with Flat Bottoms is that they are for smooth water only, ( lakes, rivers ).

    • @lanorothwolf2184

      Calling flat bottom boats slow and inefficient is like calling 5th gen jet fighters slow and inefficient because of their poor glide ratios.

    Here's an idea that You might be interested in; remember that tri-hulls can easily be built to "fold in closer or even right up against the middle and biggest hull' with a very simple 2 board (or 2 metal/aluminum rods- poles - bedrail type extensions \ect.) ..fixed with a 'henge/bending bracket built-in midways' so that when pulled by a lever the outside hull 'folds in (so to speak) closer to the 'Main-Center' hull...but when levered back out to full distance of the wooden boards/metal/aluminum rods\ect,, the outside hull cannot go backwards because of the henge/bracket...in place midways of the extention (folding) mechanism in place which would be attached to the Main middle hull on one end and the outside hulls on the other end (with the henge/bracket) in or near the middle..!!..
    Hope Ya understand what I'm trying to get across Buddy..LoL..sometimes I guess "Words Won't Work".. LoL☆~☆!!

    Very interesting and perfectly explained! I would love to learn more about the specifics of seakeeping and behavior of recreational boats with a planing hull in the size of 35 to 45 feet. This seems to me the main criteria when buying a boat like this, but there is not much substantial information out there. If you want to go out at 5 bft with your family on a planing boat, what hull specs should you consider? How important is deadrise for a smooth ride with minimized slamming? How big are the differences eg. between a northern hull like those of a Windy or Marex and one like Atlantis or Sea Ray? I would be so thankful for some answers!

    bs comment #2 tri hulls hve v/high drag as compared to most every other type of hull, but u gain in stability yet hve similar wt carrying to V style ship. They r harder to get on drag vs V hull also.

    GO back to school, and do some more studying of hull design wave dispersment/movement, drag, and boat balance, just to name a few, then you might study what engines have to do with the handling of boats, inboard, outboard and jets.

    Steven, can't say how wrong some of your over-generalizations are!!! Cats draw more actual depth compared to comp Displ of others as the section of body plan is smaller than flat or mono! They simply cannot physically draw less than mono hull unless of less all-up misplacement- which your narrative skips! Silly statements many wrong beyond remark! You need to make all section types into equal displacement to make ANY comparison! Your video is not very factual!

      lost on long island u must be very delusional thinking that a catamaran is able to cut through large swells…, here is how ure wrong…, the flaws is from the center of the hulls being concave n the front is flat which ables to let big swells currents push the cat back n makes it difficult for the boat to move forward…, y’d u think brand names like Grady White had to discontinue their “TigerCat” series lol here’s a clip that u can watch n see it’s flaw… also ive owned many boats n had been on a WorldCat before so i know what ima talkin’bout…

      lost on long island also do some research of what style pontoon boats ima referring to before u start getting all butt-hurt…, this isn’t no regular lake pontoons…, its an “arrow body pontoon” the brand is called Stabicraft Boats…, plz do research about them n see how much better they r from a cat lol here’s a clip for u to see…, ive owned boats from robalo r225, boston whaler 215 conquest, boston whaler 255 conquest, grady white 228 seafarer n a grady white 232 gulfstream n currently own a 2019 Stabicraft 2500ultracab XL n just ordered a stabicraft 1850supercab lol watch the stabi lineups n then swallow ur words coz ure an idiot for getting upset!
