    A viewer pointed out an error in the video at about the 1:10 mark when I mentioned you need to enable SAFE Select when you bind. The AeroScout and most, if not all, of the Horizon Hobby Trainers equipped with a SAFE receiver are using a different SAFE setup mode, not "SAFE Select". On these models you do NOT have to enable SAFE mode during binding, it is always enabled but you can switch between the 3 available flight modes with the safe channel.

    2:50 - Thank you so much for pointing out panic mode will always be on if you do NOT assign a switch to panic mode ch6. I overlooked that and could never get the elevator throw I needed because panic was enabled. Set up channel and boom, working like a champ.

    Thanks Shane! I added throttle cut, telemetry and reverse thrust to this setup on my EdgeTX radio and it's now perfect for the default RX settings. Now I won't need to switch to the internal backup settings on the RX to use my EdgeTX radio (unless I want to unlock advanced settings). Thanks for the awesome tutorial as usual!!!

    Where were you 12 hours ago?! I spent hours trying to figure out why I couldn't get SAFE/Panic to work on my Carbon Cub until I came across an obscure Reddit thread that showed basically what you have here (except had Panic bound to SH) and finally got it to work. I couldn't get your original method to work. I was thinking about making a video showing how to do it, but looks like you have that covered now. Thanks for your videos, you have helped me with other things regarding the TX16S.

      Below is a link to a video I made on throttle cut with EdgeTX. I show my personal method as well as one a viewer requested. Flaps are generally as easy as going into your Mixes, go to the flap channel, normally channel 6, and setting the toggle switch of your choice as the source. Leave the switch field empty. Similar to how I did the channel 5 setup in this video for safe. Could be some differences depending on the airplane and if the flap surfaces go up and down and not just down. If you are referring to "Flaperons" that is an entirely different animal, lol.

      Thank you for your answers, it's for The Conscendo UMX. I can activate the SAFE but not the flaperons. I wouldn't mind not having ailerons control because I would only use the flaps when landing. This plane "glides" far and I'm flying on sports fields. My problem is mainly the Timber UMX, I can't have the SAFE on it. On the other hand on channel 6 I can have the flaps which are independent of the ailerons and operational. Greetings from France

Make sure if you have dual rates setup you have it on high rates when you do the procedure with the sticks or it will not recognize the action. @shanesdiy  3 місяці тому +1

      @@RomeyT-dy8bf You can do that with the AR636 but you have to set the receiver up so it knows what channel you are using for f-modes and what each mode is configured for. The AR636 was never designed to accept the setup from a radio like the modern forward programming receivers, it requires the PC interface. It's a great receiver and I like mine, just isn't as convenient as the new stuff.
      Standalone gyros have the modes pre-defined such as the FMS Reflex. I have a few of those as well.

      What model do you have? This will work if you have F-Modes on channel 5 but some don't have the panic on channel 6, that's primarily for the dedicated BNF trainers like the AeroScout, Apprentice, etc. If you don't have that panic you can ignore the part on the special function for channel 6.

    Do you know how to configure a switch to toggle AS3X on/off using - Edge TX, specifically a TX16s, with an AR631 (Apprentice s2)?
    I want to be able to fly full manual, and without the gyro should I wish

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  6 місяців тому +1

      The Apprentice S2 is setup the same as the AeroScout featured in this video where you have SAFE/auto level, Intermediate, and Advanced. Both intermediate and advanced still have AS3X. Based on your question I assume you are already aware of this.
      You can change the flight modes via Forward Programming (make sure your TX16S has the latest Forward Programming scripts) but only after unlocking the receiver. Two options for unlocking. First, if the firmware is older, you'll need the SPMA3065 USB adapter and using the Spektrum Programmer software update to the latest firmware. After the update, you should have additional menu options for performing a "Factory Reset" which will clear all gyro setup. At this time the gyro will be completely disabled. You can then go through the "First time setup" and configure the flight modes however you like. I have many other videos on this process with the TX16S.
      Option 2 to unlock, if the receiver has more recent firmware, on the first Forward Programming screen there will be an option to "Show Advanced Menus". Once you enable that, you should see the "Factory Reset" option which then would follow the same process as above. I have a short video explaining how it works if you have this newer firmware already on the receiver. Title says something about "No USB required".

    New TX16S user (currently on 2.6.0 EdgeTX). Following your sequence in this video for the Special Function assignment for the PANIC assignment, I am using switch SH (it's my momentary switch) AND my version of EdgeTX doesn't have a "TRIGGER" selection for input in the Special Functions page. I have the following settings: Switch=SH, Function=Override, Channel=6, Value=100, Enable=On. When I view my monitors it doesn't show the CH6 as ON (100%), it doesn't show it as being on at all. When I throw the momentary switch SH it does go to 100%. How do I get the proper behavior for this output (i.e., always on at 100% to disable PANIC until I throw the switch SH)? I plan to use this with a Apprentice STS 1.5m using a Spektrum E468392 SRXL2 DSMX Serial Micro Receiver with a A3230 Flight Controller.

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  3 місяці тому +1

      Congrats on being a new TX16S user! In my video, I used a special function to force channel 6 on at all times to effectively disable panic mode. If you want to use it with your SH toggle as a panic switch I would delete the special function all together and I would setup channel 6 in your MIXES similar to what we did with channel 5. SH will be the source for channel 6 in the MIXES. It will then switch between -100 and +100 with the switch. You want it to sit at +100 when not pulling the switch so if it defaults to -100 when not pulling the SH switch then go into the OUTPUT screen, then go to channel 6 and "invert" the output. When setup correctly channel 6 will sit at +100 and go to -100 when you pull SH.

    Thanks Shane it's a nice aproach, I'm going to update de older method. On the other hand, how Did you Config the dual rates?. It's are usually enabled on switch F on DXS Transmiter and normally works together with the Spektrum safe modes to limit Aileron, elevator and rudder to 70% in low rate and no limit (100%) in high rate

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  8 місяців тому +1

      Aeroscout doesn't really need high/low rates but I do set 30% expo. When I do setup high/low rates with Spektrum on EdgeTX, I also use the SE switch, along with the safe modes. I'll set safe mode to 100% rates 0% expo (safe lowers rates), low rates in "intermediate mode" of 70% +30% expo. High rates in Expert mode with 100% rates + 30% expo. I do it on the same switch as the safe modes so you can't accidentally select low rates and safe/auto level mode at the same time. That would give you about 60% of whatever your low rates were if you set both at the same time. With the method I use you can't set low rates and safe at same time.
      If interested in my dual rates + safe modes setup I can do another video on that.

    How do we use safe select when it has flaps on channel 6? I have a timberx I'm trying to setup. Right now I can't turn off auto level/safe. I would assume that at least with it set to channel 5 at -100 I should get autolevel off, but it's trying to level the plane no matter what position I have the channel 5 switch to, using SE

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  8 місяців тому +2

      I also have the Timber X. It lets you assign the safe channel and it does not have a panic channel setup at all. Just configure your SE switch to channel 7 (instead of 5 like I did in this video). Then to set that as your flight modes switch, have the RX and TX bound and working. Be sure rates are set to 100% as well as the other tips I talked about in this video. Then you hold the two sticks down and in and flip the SE switch 5 times. OFF->ON->OFF = 1 switch flip. This should assign channel 7/SE switch to be your flight modes switch.
      When you bind be sure you followed the bind procedure to enable safe select or the safe mode won't be available.

      Some models do need the channel set and the typical method is holding the sticks down and in and flipping the switch assigned to the channel 5 times (OFF-ON-OFF = 1). For this to work you must have a few things set correctly. I mentioned a few common issues at the end of this video that can effect this. High rates must be set, do not "Enable max throw", must have channel range set to 1-12, must be using DSMX1F or DSMX2F.

      Might make a short video some day of how I do it but for now, here is what I do. Make sure you spell the web site correctly, apparently there is another site with close spelling that is "malicious" in nature... The correct web site is www.skyraccoon.com/ (note 2 c's and 2 o's). What I do is open the site, search for the plane I want and open it's page. In the upper right corner there is always a photo "floating" around. I right click on that and click "Save As" and it saves as a PNG image so there is no background. They are slightly higher resolution so might slow down the radio while switching models. Just put that .png image into your radios /IMAGES folder. You can only have a max of 9 characters plus the file extension. If the name is too long you won't be able to see it on the radio.
      There is a folder on the site for each plane full of jpg images but I prefer the png image as it has no background, looks much better on the radio like you see here on this video.

      That wasn't the point of this video. Here's a link to one of my videos performing the bind with the TX16S and a Spektrum AR637, which has the same process as the AR631 in the AeroScout. Only difference is you don't have to enable safe mode during bind on the AeroScout and most other trainer type E-Flite and Hobbyzone planes, it is always enabled.

    Can you share your edge tx setup file?

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  4 місяці тому

      Do you mean a model.yml file for an AeroScout? An "EdgeTX" setup file isn't really a thing.

      Don't know about this file extension, but it can probably do the job or if you can share a part of your .etx file it could be great

      @@BobLeSnob .etx files are used for the EdgeTX Companion software and not specific for a certain model and the .etx file isn't installed on the radio. What are you trying to get from this file? Are you trying to get an example model file as used in this video or are you trying to setup your radio in general? Radio setup and model files all now use .yml file types on the SD card.

      @@shanesdiy .ext file containing the model settings would be great to copy/modify the model configurations to an other controller

      @@BobLeSnob The first version of this video has a link to a model yml file setup like the first method (link below). Doesn't match this new video but works fine. My current model yml files likely would not be much help, my receivers have been unlocked and I have very complex mixes with flaperons, etc. The model setup is very simple, just create the first 4 channels to AETR then add the channel 5 switch assignment to the mixes and make the special function to override channel 6 as shown in this video, maybe inverter a channel or two in the outputs and you are in business.
      If you want to have a look at the first version model yml file here's a link to that file. It uses a few logical switches and special functions, the new method is simpler.

      I don't use EdgeTX companion often and don't have a current .etx file for it. Just adding the yml file to your SD card is by far the simplest way to import a model with the least risk of technical difficulties.

    Been grounded trying to setup my Aeroscout for 4 months. Followed all your videos I could find. Tried everything 5X. But I have really messed this up. No longer see the Gyro settings in forward programming. Any chance you can do a video on how to delete everything and start over? I am at the point I don’t ever want to look at this transmitter again. Wish I had pony uped the extra dollars and just bought the Spektrum… at one point I was very close but I never had the “envelope” setting for intermediate safe…. As I said, I can’t even see gyro settings no longer. I’m a 56 yo engineer that can follow directions pretty well but I’m at my wits end 😢

      Sorry to hear of your struggles! I'll do my best to help. Can you first detail what hardware and software you are working with? Assume TX16S but Mk1 or Mk2? What version of EdgeTX are you on? What version of the DSM scripts have you put in the radio? What airplane and receiver model?
      If you know how to zip the contents of your SD card, do that and email me the file. I can review them for issues. Could upload the file to Google Drive and send me the link if the file is too big to email.
      Don't give up hope!
