I get you, we plant with a $8000 Oliver 1855 and a $3500 8 row white 5100 planter and get the same yields as our neighbors farming with planters worth more then our whole operation
I like your previous idea of using two of those drills in tandem. The inside of the gearbox looks pretty neat! I always like seeing something like those gears and thinking about how they designed that.
Merry Christmas to you and family. I do appreciate the way you keep that old equipment going. I used to have "good intentions" but never get to those projects. Like the few others still raising cattle around here l make money in other areas to maintain a living, leaving nights and weekends for haying, fencing, cattle care and basic building and equipment maintenance. I hope you don't mind if l vent a little about the state of things. I've seen nothing but decline in agriculture from the late 80's on. I know some call it "progress". Sometimes it makes my heart ache a little when l think of how prominent farming and logging used to be around here. I loved dairy farming despite the manual labor. All the feed and bedding came in by shovel, wheel barrow or bale form. The manure went out by the same labor. Milking was done with de laval pail milkers a dumping station and vacuum bulk tank until the end. I think often of the old timers l knew who wouldn't like the present state of things anymore than l do. Our area is overrun by Massachusetts transplants who drive up property values so the local young people can't even begin to think of staying here. Over the years I've come to enjoy raising beef on my wife's old family farm which has been a working farm since it was settled. I'd hate to be the generation that sees the pastures empty come grazing season. I'd like for my boy to take it over someday although I'm not sure how realistic that will be even if he wants it. Most of all l hate the thought of some developer getting hold of our 500 acres and cashing in with no regard to the history of it all. I'm not a fan of land trusts seeing what they've done with other farms in the area. One thing is sure, humanity will continue to decline into one world govt but we should all remember this Christmas day, the Lord has promised a wonderful future for them that love him.
All part of the government’s plan to get as much control over agriculture as they can. Easier to control production on fewer large farms than it is on a bunch of small family farms. But the big farmers that survive on government assistance will just call that a conspiracy and I don’t know what I’m talking about. That’s why I want the federal government to get their dick beaters out of AG.
Merry Christmas to you and the family Ethan. You are so darn talented with building shit. I just love Teeter and Lillie they are so stinking cute. Nice video.
You said it best when you compared your drill to a $500,000 dollar drill. You both got $20 dollar beans. Rebuilding the drill to you is an easy fix and that's pretty dang cool. To bad about the land grab.
Those slotted screws (like phillips) should be outlawed. There's just no way to get leverage on them if they get the least bit stuck. Also... nice to see the old Craftsman hand tools!
Ag in the USA is dying a slow painful death death but all of us that are smaller farmers or first gen farmers are to dam stupid/ stubborn to give up and farm land in my area is $15,000 a acre
If I was doing that project Being the class A industrial Mill wright that I am I would retrofit a drain plug of some sort in the bottom of that casing so the oil can be drained out and changed as part of the preventive maintenance schedule
Yep sounds like you have progress at your back door step. Around me it is solar farms and pine trees.Lot of good farm land has been sold by children of farmers who have died. They won't rent it and greed sets in looking for the high dollar as they sell it to whoever can get the money. A man I have most of my entire 66 years on this earth died about 5 years ago leaving one of the nicest well kept 1300 acre farms up for grabs. His son farmed it till covid and heart problems killed him. Three sisters and sons in law clawed over it till everything was finally settled by a judge cause they couldn't get along and it wound up in court. The son's widow got about one third and she raises cows on her part. The other two thirds was sold to one man who promptly sold all the pivots tore down two old barns then stripped it and planted long leaf pine trees. I have seen some of the best crops ever on that land but now all I see are pine trees. Quit if you want to but I would fight it tooth and nail till the bitter end...
We just signed papers last week putting our farm in the federal farm preservation program. Took five years and a lot of BS to get it done. We’ll see how it holds up over time. But like any gov’t program/agreement it can be undone. Just ask the Indian’s.
Im just around the lake to the west of Chicago and that shit is creeping out my way too. My county just approved another 1200 acre solar farm. Id like to think that some day the government money will run out for these bullshit projects.
Government money never runs out. They just print more. Thats why Nixon took us off the gold standard so the fed no longer had a cap on how much they could put into circulation.

If I can come across another drill identical to mine for cheap that’s probably what I’ll do.

Merry Christmas!!!
Merry Christmas, from Mississippi
Thanks.
Farms are drying up here in WNY also. A few have expanded to survive. Most sell out.😢
The north east was the first area to start falling. Shame. There’s a lot of pretty farms in that region.
Happy Christmas Ethan from here in UK
Thanks
Ethan Merry Christmas to you and your family!!
Thanks.
Just got home.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Don't get me started with Solar Farms and Windmills.
Merry Christmas to you and the family Ethan. You are so darn talented with building shit. I just love Teeter and Lillie they are so stinking cute. Nice video.

Ethan, I don't blame you I would fix that drill up and use it longer. Merry Christmas 🎁🎄 thanks Michael
That’s the plan.
Merry Christmas!
Thanks.
Merry Xmas and hope you find your parts
Thanks.
Merry Christmas Ethan.
Thanks.
Its amazing what farming that can be done with cheap tools and fix it skills.
It’s not that hard.

But you’re not. You’re just the floor sweeper. I can guarantee they never let you touch any tools if you actually were a millwright.
Merry Christmas to one and all.
Thanks.
That drill is in really good condition for 70 years old
Yep
Merry Christmas
Thanks.
@ your welcome thank you for everything you do
What kind of drill are you looking for? No till / conventional? What brand would you get ? Love your videos by the way.merry Christmas 🍻
Merry Christmas to all 🎅🏻☃️🎄🚂
Thanks.
Shafts should be made from cold finish round stock. It will give a smoother surface finish. AL B.
That would be an easy line bore on your lathe set it up on the cross slide for the bar between the truck and the center and use that
No it wouldn’t. The gearbox is as long as the bed. How you gonna do a 20 inch line bore when you have no travel? I’ll wait.

I wouldn’t trust the government to protect a pile of rocks let alone a whole farm. That’s not in their best interest.

I'd buy another drill like yours and do a double hitch wich will be cheaper and easier to transport
If I can find another one like mine that’s what I’d rather do honestly
Merry Christmas
Thanks.
Merry Christmas
