- The competitive duet "Ah si fa cor, abbraciami". Some like Stignani, Ercse ( and many others) prefer to avoid the high C, some to compete with the main role like Verrett, Bumbry, Veasey, Miltcheva, sometimes topping their Norma.
I checked into my hotel in Trinidad, turn on my IPad and this clip pops up. I thoroughly enjoyed this film.
This is a delectable treat!😁
The second clip was Norma as arranged by Schoenberg
Is that hungarian sass and ercse are singing?
Jose Abraham I suppose yes.
The second selection is a train wreck.
Simionato was the best Adalgisa cause she was a true mezzo but that high C was as boomb as a spinto's soprano one. The seccond Clip Adalgisa is a mess! But miss Bumbry was such good Adalgisa that Caballets Norma faded.
I am a Callas fanatic, but Verrett is my favorite Norma.
Verrett sounds like she is singing in German or who knows what language.
The voice is gorgeous of course.
Bumbry sounds spectacular like usual for her
lungdoc Are you German?Adalgisa is written at a height where most of the singers can't articulate except if they are lyric sopranos like Remiggio, Cuberli. It's strange that you didn't mention Caballé's out of tune high C and autoritary Bumbry not singing the written small notes, or the matrone like interpretation of Stignani. Verrett might sing it in Russian she sings it better than the other ones.
@@foropera exactly!!!
Why is Sutherland not here?
Maybe because it is a post about Adalgisas...who wanted to be Normas.
@@foropera No. The video seems to be about great Normas and their particular rivalrous Adalgisas. So, why no Sutherland and Horne?
@@liedersanger1 You really have free time left...It is to show the difference between some Adalgisas in trouble with the high B/C with the good ones, who are Falcons, which is by the way the real tessitura of Norma. To me Adalgisa should never be sung by a contraltoish voice ou matronish mezzo. If you want to hear Horne as Adalgisa with her Norma, you have tons of videos, elsewhere. I am not supposed to make an encyclopedia here.
@@foropera You wrote “Its about Adalgisas who want to be Normas…” not “Adalgisas who are too matronly for the role and should never gave been allowed to sing it.”
@@liedersanger1 are you serious nasal Horne and Sutherland please, don't.
Sylvia Sass is singing this too lyrical but on the other hand she was never a dramatic soprano and her voice got damaged very soon because she sang to heavy roles.
Dragan Vidic Yes she did my friend. She showed so much potential for a lyric voice & made that fatal mistake too early in her promising carers. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Caballe was also a lyric soprano.
Dávid Müller
Yes and someone who knew how to use it thanks to a rock solid technique.
@@draganvidic2039 :( Sass is the reason why I love this genre, so I can forgive her. Her mid-register is very good for a lyric that's why she could change the fach and mostly because her dramatic soul. I was at plenty of her recent concerts, she still have a bright mezzo which is good to listen to.
