Why is this myth retold over and over. It wasn’t the money which helped Apple back in 1997 but the agreement made with Microsoft to drop the lawsuits and continue developing Software for the Mac. Apple was in dire situation at the time but the $100M wouldn’t have made much of a difference if Microsoft effectively stopped publishing Excel on their desktops.
@@fxmtoeclipse It is not a myth, it actually happened and I would suggest go into actual legal documents and look it up. Or watch interviews of Jobs explaining how Apple had only weeks of finances left to stay in business, in 1997. Of course, it was a beneficial deal for most parties, not because of the dropped lawsuits but mainly because the US government was about to break up Microsoft into multiple companies due to their monopolistic position in the market and anti-competitive practices. Apple got some cash, plus at least 5 years of MS Office support of Mac OS (which they needed since majority of PC were sold to business customers and there was, and arguably still isn't, any serious competition to MS Office). Microsoft gained a healthy competitor that had been sinking for years, during the years when Jobs was absent, and Apple made Internet Explorer the default browser on Mac OS, which was exactly what MS needed to fully take over Netscape. The lawsuits from Apple, against MS, at the time, were minor annoyances to a market leader controlling back then controlling over 80% of desktop OS market share, majority of internet browsers, and being the sole player in productivity enterprise software. After all this, in my opinion, the lawsuits were silly either way since the first graphical user interface was developed by Xerox, which then was used for "inspiration" by both companies... look up documentaries on this, fascinating history. But all that, and how much of one or the other platform was truly original is debatable... MS has always insisted on using their own coding languages, their own fork of Javascript in IE etc. etc. etc. and this deal also helped both companies to come together and share some of each other's patents, and did I forget to mention how they agreed to collectively contribute to Java... anyway, there's a lot in this deal, but mainly the facts are that Apple was on the brink of bankruptcy in 1997 confirmed by Jobs, MS needed to prove that there is any competition for them which seemed harder and harder to prove without a healthy competitor, and they both excelled in complementary areas that helped to bring more choice and innovation to the market.

Bill becomes so Bill talking about how Steve cast his spell on nonsense products. You don't usually hear Bill saying that's nonsense on a day to day basis
@PiCABLESKY true but perhaps random people outside Apple looked at Steve as some icon with passion about his work, dedication, methods, God knows what..and are more keen towards Steve who in the first place founded Apple rather Tim and new crew. Aside to that story, business wise as long as numbers are good its all good.
Good stuff, nice interview, except, Next Step wasn't nonsense! The software and UI innovation it had was incredible for the late 80's/early 90's. In fact, many of the core ideas of the Next Os were adopted to create Mac Os X, which is now a very successful Os, used by 15% of the people using a computer on the planet (over 22% in the form of iOs), and is considered one of the most advanced and stable Os's in existence.
One big regret I have is not purchasing some Apple stock when Steve Jobs returned in the late 90s. There are very few people (ex Gates, Musk, Jobs, etc.) that have the vision, intelligence, and work ethic to carry a company on their backs and make it wildly successful. Never bet against proven winners.
Everyone of us needs a counterpart. That brings out the best talent and creativity in us. Because we always want to win. So human. Both of them great their own way.
I wonder how Bill Gates sees competition and rivalry. He seems doesn't have envy (at least judging from his voice). He is always positive. What a personality.
Competition, what competition, how many PC's around the world are powered by Microsoft OS. That tells you a lot. Even if someone starts something new (other OS) it would be impossible to surpass Microsoft due to well established OS and more imporant 3rd party software that runs on that OS (industry).
Quite great “fail” for Next. 1.) NextStep was ahead of any other operating system and it’s demo from early 90ties looked like science fiction those days. 2.) Next has been aquired by Apple but it turned out Next actually aquired Apple 3.) NextStep became the base of macOs X, we can call macOs a NextStep 10 without any doubt 4.) Next technologies used in macOs were used in iOS for iPhone that made Apple one of the biggest companies which is today, later used for iPad and then Apple Watch 5.) Thanks to Nextstep great portability, concept of app in one package and Universal binaries Apple was able to migrate from PowerPC processors to Intel and now from Intel to ARM quite easily. For me, this is the biggest, most spectacular “fail” one can only dream about.
The wizardry of Jobs was this, he got a nice appealing portable player for mp3. At the time, a lot of people liked mp3. So that device was just something people went grabbing. Then came iPhone, the multi-touch sensing thing was just fantastic for phones at that time. It took hold so quickly and still continues to burn. The ipod and iphone came at the right time.
When people try to posit that somehow Gates must have 'Aspergers' and that's the secret to his success, they completely miss his great intellect and passion. He explains it so well when describing Steve Jobs, and he was there in person to witness it. Gates is also pals with Warren Buffet, you should check out some of their interviews, very interesting to watch.

Fareed: Apple is the largest company today
Bill: hold my beer 🍺
Yeah the interviewer is litterly trying to trigger him 😂
Lol apple hit 2 trillion
The personality trait that Bill has is Dominance. That’s key when it comes to owning a project, process, or company.
Im glad Bill as a former richest guy in the world, has such a great heart and setting good examples. Imagine if the richest guy in the world was more like Jeff Bezos.
Bill becomes so Bill talking about how Steve cast his spell on nonsense products. You don't usually hear Bill saying that's nonsense on a day to day basis
Bill and Steve eventually come together and become friends.
0:11 I sit like Bill gates. I don't have enough strength to sit properly.
It was all going pretty well, until Tim Cook and Steve Ballmer took over. That's when the real demolition of rethinking innovation began.
@PiCABLESKY true but perhaps random people outside Apple looked at Steve as some icon with passion about his work, dedication, methods, God knows what..and are more keen towards Steve who in the first place founded Apple rather Tim and new crew. Aside to that story, business wise as long as numbers are good its all good.
they are competitive to each other...
Now Bill is on PINNACLE OF WISDOM
Good stuff, nice interview, except, Next Step wasn't nonsense! The software and UI innovation it had was incredible for the late 80's/early 90's. In fact, many of the core ideas of the Next Os were adopted to create Mac Os X, which is now a very successful Os, used by 15% of the people using a computer on the planet (over 22% in the form of iOs), and is considered one of the most advanced and stable Os's in existence.
JObs certainly was a wizard. He waved his magic wand and made Xerox Parc's inventions his own!
Like Twitter? Take Musk off your list.
This tech bromance is so legendary ❤️
I want to burn Bill Gates' face with a blowtorch.
Thankyou❤
Once i see Bill Gates in the thumbnail......i get chills all over
Click
Bill is such an awesome guy. Out of all tech-prophets, he is the most humane.
Only a true wizard could have created the 'Reality Distortion Field'.
Respect Gates. Nice.
Great questions
That Wizard analogy was deep
I felt that
Everyone of us needs a counterpart. That brings out the best talent and creativity in us. Because we always want to win. So human. Both of them great their own way.
What I learn from these video ?
Steve have a hardcore superpower which is very hard to gain" MESMERIZE"
Bill knows he's next and he gonna enjoy his life till his end.
Someone explain to me what he means by Steve was a master of casting out spells,..?
Very nice 👍ยอดเยี่ยมมากค่ะ
But we have Elon Musk who does not listen to anyone
Werner von Braun said he had HELP from Above
Don't do it at home. Or shall I say, don't do it, Holmes.
The captions/subtitles are just random letters!!! It is not readable at all. Please fix.
*Bollywood accent* ’I love Steve Jobs… sooo inspiring so I started at Microsoft Tech Support.’
SO!
Is that called "Frenemy" ?
Wozniak is the unsung hero
I like this one
Bill actually said “ass hole?” Fuck I love him
I wonder how Bill Gates sees competition and rivalry. He seems doesn't have envy (at least judging from his voice). He is always positive. What a personality.
Competition, what competition, how many PC's around the world are powered by Microsoft OS. That tells you a lot. Even if someone starts something new (other OS) it would be impossible to surpass Microsoft due to well established OS and more imporant 3rd party software that runs on that OS (industry).
good interview …….
Quite great “fail” for Next.
1.) NextStep was ahead of any other operating system and it’s demo from early 90ties looked like science fiction those days.
2.) Next has been aquired by Apple but it turned out Next actually aquired Apple
3.) NextStep became the base of macOs X, we can call macOs a NextStep 10 without any doubt
4.) Next technologies used in macOs were used in iOS for iPhone that made Apple one of the biggest companies which is today, later used for iPad and then Apple Watch
5.) Thanks to Nextstep great portability, concept of app in one package and Universal binaries Apple was able to migrate from PowerPC processors to Intel and now from Intel to ARM quite easily.
For me, this is the biggest, most spectacular “fail” one can only dream about.
Great leader you and Steve job.. thousands people are admired. In modern tech history, Bill gate and Steve job are real guru or Buddha.
nice video
The wizardry of Jobs was this, he got a nice appealing portable player for mp3. At the time, a lot of people liked mp3. So that device was just something people went grabbing. Then came iPhone, the multi-touch sensing thing was just fantastic for phones at that time. It took hold so quickly and still continues to burn. The ipod and iphone came at the right time.
R.I.P. JOBS
He said he a very singular taste payback for when Steve Jobs said Microsoft doesn't have good taste 😁😁😁
Haha, “Don’t do this at home”
You're a Wizard Steve. I'm a what? A Wizard, non muggles.
STEVE JOBS LEADERSHIP: please do not try at home , Bill just said that 😂
When people try to posit that somehow Gates must have 'Aspergers' and that's the secret to his success, they completely miss his great intellect and passion. He explains it so well when describing Steve Jobs, and he was there in person to witness it.
Gates is also pals with Warren Buffet, you should check out some of their interviews, very interesting to watch.
He looks a lot older than 63.
buffett looked old in late 80s and now look at him
yes he aged very quickly. his wife is still Ok for her age though.
I guess bill won't approve gold toilets.
Everybody lights up when they talk about Steve Jobs whether it's good or bad LOL he was definitely unique.
No, not everybody does that.
Boy he really comes alive talking about Steve Jobs
Great idea Bill. Let's cast some spells.
Y si tambien soy un genio de la economia
Bill was sneak dissing 😂
Genious!
Steve jobs the legend ❤️
