Alright mark, I just want to say thanks for the great videos over the years. For me you are the go to person for fish information and your step by step guides make it easy for even me to breed and keep fish. Thank you man. Peas out dude.
I found that the open spawners like rams tended to favour almond leaves to spawn on as if they instinctively knew that they offered anti-bacterial and anti-fungal protection for their eggs but we had them spawning on any flat rock or bogwood over the years. I love the gold rams. If you want any leaves just let me know as I still have hundreds which arrived the wrong size so I give them away no worries.
No worries, I have some boxed up ready to go out today. I think there is about 100 almond leaves and I put some Turkey Oak in there too. We had a huge tree in my garden which had to come down so I gathered all the leaves when they were brown and ready to drop, flattened and dried them and I did sell them online for a while but it feels better to just give them away. You'll notice they are much larger than English Oak leaves.
It is amazing to think how quickly I could have got there if I hadn't kept changing the types of videos I make or if I was all over social media, lol I'm not really bothered about figures for the channel - as long as it has something useful for people seeking information.
Hi Mark I raise Gold and GBR in the US. I have most success with parents raising their fry with no dither. They can get exhausted always protecting the eggs from being eaten. Every pair is different however. Good luck! Love your channel.
Hey Mark great video. Good timing too, I just recieved a group of rams this weekend. Five GBRs and one RAMbunctious Gold Ram. Curious to see what happens with them.
Very nice as always mark, not long back got myself a pair of rams, and they are sitting in my heavily planted community tank, hoping they will try and breed, so theres some good tips here
This, Must Be what is happening to my sevrums. She is getting spooked and Eating the Eggs..? Mark you're still showing me the ways of a good fishkeeper, great video as always thank you.
When you add the trickle filter, the water level will rise, how do you remove water? I can’t see a pump that removes the excess. Excellent videos though. Only found you last week and I’ve watched nearly all the videos already. 👍🏽 fantastic
I always get nervous breeding new species and trying to pinpoint when to begin feeding/when they’re done with their yolk sacks. I picked up a few electric blues a week ago and I just noticed last night they had hatched wigglers already! They’re just at the point of beginning to kinda freeswim. I had to pull them all bc there were other rams in with them.
Been waiting for this one! I was going to ask if you would do a video on them. Can't wait to see the results, like others I've tried so many times with GBR and they always eat the fry at some point. Never tried removing the eggs thinking this will pass the egg eating trait on to their off spring, next time I'll try and split them to edge my bets. I wonder if the separated eggs would be best kept in the same tank as the parents so they can see each other and maybe teach the off spring that they should hang around the fry instead of eating them so they don't do it when they grow up and spawn themselves? Great video Mark.
Okay, that’s common among fish. Those aren’t too good as parents, so you raise them artificially (like Mark). They will grow up fine, but egg eating is usually due to lack of experience or lack of a parent figure. That is a thing.
Another interesting video, loving these breeding series your doing. Getting me inspired to try this myself. Missing your sign off music. 🤔 always have that little tune stuck in my head...just me and my guitar...
Is there no end to your talents, its amazing how you go from species to species and breed. I find all your videos enthralling, I love it when a new one comes out. I have bred a few things from endlers to angels but trying my hand at L numbers now. Do you think an RO unit is a wise investment? Fantastic work Mark.
hi mark got a question to ask I have a pair of german blue rams which have spawned twice but now they are fighting is this normal or should I separate them many thanks
My GBRams move the wigglers around the tank. They like the babies to stay on dried mango leaves (now soaked and on bottom) I have in the tank. There must be some good things to eat there.
Hi Mark. Awesome vid again!!! Water in the zebra tank you said is around 6.5 using RO, do you use a buffer to hold the ph ?, If so what would you recommend, iv got Zebs and use an Ro and HMA mix, but would like to drop my ph down a bit with out crashing, our water here on the Isle of Wight comes out the tap around 7.2 and then shoots up to 8.4 within an hour or two, any info would be great, keep doing your thing Mark,💪
Wow that's a big jump in your ph. My Zebra tank is normally kept at a ph of 7 the only time i lower it is when I'm spawning them then I use ro or fresh rain water to lower it.
Do you have any experiance with coldwater marine systems or know anything about them? Thinking about giving it ago but i cant find much info about them. Cheers mate!
@@MARKSAQUATICS just what exactly i need to do the tank like for tropical i need a heater so for cold water would i need a chiller? Also are there any laws behind collecting small critters from our shore as i cant really find anything about it or anywhere to buy captive bred stock. Cheers for the reply :)
Yes you would need a chiller. As far as I know you collect what you want from the somewhere in the uk . All you do is set it up just like a tropical marine aquarium without the heater. Just use beach sand or gravel , stones to scape it . One thing I would recommend it a good full spectrum light if you plan to grow seaweed ok as it needs plenty of light.
@@MARKSAQUATICS would a fan unit be enough or would i need to find a proper aquatics ac unit? And thanks for the advice ill give it ago in the new year after alot more research on what i can stock my tank with :)
@@bendakin3094 a fan would be ok with inshore species from rockpools because they can put up with temperature fluctuations. But you'll need a chiller if you want to house deeper critters. 😀👍
Dude focus haha. Thank you for this video. I have 2 balloon Rams but ithink they are both male. Perhaps in the future I can get a female. My water is really hard though so I doubt they would spawn. Awesome video and you got another subscriber.
The pair have mated many times but generally eat the wiggler stage. I raised some from eggs and after all the trials and mistakes I have 4 mini GBRams looking like miniatures of their parents and are bold and already pushing the endlers around.
Admittedly I want Rams, but am realizing my current fish stocking would require a change. I'm certain my Yoyo Loaches would either ea or stress the rams to much to have success. They are constanctly moving my crushed lava rock around and rearranging my tank allot now.
The best way to tell a blue female ram is that her black spot on the side will NOT have blue spots on top of it. Males typically have a smattering of blue. And a more mature female has a redder belly.

You obviously have great success but I never needed so many dither fish present with either Gold, Blue, or Bolivian Rams. Actually stopped using them at all long ago.
oh, I know some breeders use guppies in the tank to breed their Plecos and Angels, I take a few cups of water from the Guppy breeding tank if they are taking their time to spawn.
hey there mark, Gold Ram's ow yes i'm really excited about this one i'll be watching this one very carefully, LOL you really do amaze me on how you get these fish to spawn and you make it look so easy LOL. Hi Phil. There's a lift pump in the top chamber that sucks up the water and returns it via a sprat bar .

Hi do you think they would breed in hard water I’m down in Kent and it’s very hard water my ph is 8
They might. Add some India almond leaves and wood to the tank this will soften the water.
good info mate, my rams eat the fry as soon as they become wrigglers, they guard the eggs until they wiggle then they eat them.
Do you have them in a community tank?
@@MARKSAQUATICS it's a ram tank, with two other pairs of rams. (Planted 240)
However there is a bristle nose in there too.(to keep the glass clean)

Hi Mark, will a pair spawn in the tank while there is other fish/rams present?
Hi yes they will but the fry will most probably get eaten. Best to raise in a separate tank. 😀👍
Thnx Mark, my black pair is busy with prespawn, will rather move the others then
You are really amazing! Could you breed wild Betta? Like Betta Albimarginata? I would love to see that Video

You obviously have great success but I never needed so many dither fish present with either Gold, Blue, or Bolivian Rams. Actually stopped using them at all long ago.
Great video mark.
Have you ever had the rams turn on eachother after a spawn?
Some pairs can get a little over protective of the eggs and turn on each other. If you see this It's better to pull the eggs and rear them yourself .
Some do that, they’ll eventually get used to it after a few spawns.
great video
Hay mark how do you get all the live blood worms?
My local fish shop or from Ebay.😀
Down at the local stores.
What's the water temperature?
26 degrees Celsius

Can we loo the Ph by adding indian almond leaf
yes. And also by adding bog wood.
hi, my ph is around 7.5, and i would like to breed rams and angelfish. is there any good way to change the ph to the levels mentioned in the video?
Hi. You can use wood or Indian almond leaves to lower ph.
@@MARKSAQUATICS I already have wood and Indian almond leaves in my tanks. It doesn't seem to be doing much

Guppies there to produce hormones to encourage them to spawn?
No just to keep them calm .😀👍
