    I found that the open spawners like rams tended to favour almond leaves to spawn on as if they instinctively knew that they offered anti-bacterial and anti-fungal protection for their eggs but we had them spawning on any flat rock or bogwood over the years. I love the gold rams.
    If you want any leaves just let me know as I still have hundreds which arrived the wrong size so I give them away no worries.

      The gold rams are my favourite to. If it's not to much trouble would love some more leaves. Thank you.

      No worries, I have some boxed up ready to go out today. I think there is about 100 almond leaves and I put some Turkey Oak in there too. We had a huge tree in my garden which had to come down so I gathered all the leaves when they were brown and ready to drop, flattened and dried them and I did sell them online for a while but it feels better to just give them away. You'll notice they are much larger than English Oak leaves.

    I always get nervous breeding new species and trying to pinpoint when to begin feeding/when they’re done with their yolk sacks. I picked up a few electric blues a week ago and I just noticed last night they had hatched wigglers already! They’re just at the point of beginning to kinda freeswim. I had to pull them all bc there were other rams in with them.

    Been waiting for this one! I was going to ask if you would do a video on them. Can't wait to see the results, like others I've tried so many times with GBR and they always eat the fry at some point. Never tried removing the eggs thinking this will pass the egg eating trait on to their off spring, next time I'll try and split them to edge my bets. I wonder if the separated eggs would be best kept in the same tank as the parents so they can see each other and maybe teach the off spring that they should hang around the fry instead of eating them so they don't do it when they grow up and spawn themselves? Great video Mark.

    • @Nemesis0513
      @Nemesis0513 4 роки тому

      Okay, that’s common among fish. Those aren’t too good as parents, so you raise them artificially (like Mark). They will grow up fine, but egg eating is usually due to lack of experience or lack of a parent figure. That is a thing.

    If so what would you recommend, iv got Zebs and use an Ro and HMA mix, but would like to drop my ph down a bit with out crashing, our water here on the Isle of Wight comes out the tap around 7.2 and then shoots up to 8.4 within an hour or two, any info would be great, keep doing your thing Mark,💪

      Yes you would need a chiller. As far as I know you collect what you want from the somewhere in the uk . All you do is set it up just like a tropical marine aquarium without the heater. Just use beach sand or gravel , stones to scape it . One thing I would recommend it a good full spectrum light if you plan to grow seaweed ok as it needs plenty of light.

    The best way to tell a blue female ram is that her black spot on the side will NOT have blue spots on top of it. Males typically have a smattering of blue. And a more mature female has a redder belly.
