  • Defence experts are examining how electric military vehicles could influence battlefield tactics.
The process of electrification has begun, but there is still some way to go in the trials and testing.
While having entire fleets of electric military vehicles seems some way off, innovative hybrid variants are likely to be common on battlefields within the next decade.

"We took 90% commercial off the shelf architecture, added another 10% to meet military specs -- then added 6000% to the price and an additional 4000% in predicted...i mean totally unforseen cost overruns and we got us a fantastic cash cow....uhh.... I mean highly technological innovative military vehicle that will allow our CEO.....troops!! I meant troops!! We love our money!! I mean troops...we love our troops!!"

I think there should be a hybrid approach because when you enter enemy area or close to enemy you switch on batteries for silence.

Finding a charging point on a battlefield could be a bit challenging, would give a new meaning to range anxiety.

There are plenty of battlefield examples of the M1 Abrams being quiet enough to sneak up on enemy positions in cities. And that's a freaking turbine engjne!

I think this would be great for short range special operations or recon units where low observability and stealth are key. However, due to the restraints of present battery technology, I don't see this system being practical for regular military operations.

I heard Black & Decker is currently developing a 10,000 mile long extension cord that can be deployed by aerial drone to allow these vehicles to recharge anywhere in the world. Technology is so amazing!

Them being quite would be great and the low torque would be amazing, but their issue is range, especially with added weight like armor, towing, weapons, or whatever it is carrying. I don't know if the trade offs are worth it being all electric.

Not only charging points, but what about EMTs and other power tapping scenarios?

This is definitely a niche mission vehicle at best given battery recharging times and availability of recharging stations in the enemy's camp to recharge before returning home.
