I think staccato trademarked the 2011. Also I believe it comes with a hex optic plate standard and you can buy other plates (made by agency arms) from Springfield. So you should have no issues with a Leupold DPP.
@@AllanG1914 Not exactly, you cannot trademark a number. Now you are correct in that Sti certainly tried to trademark "2011" but that application was ultimately refused. Sti reorganized as Staccato and now has a trademark on "Staccato" and "Staccato 2011," not just "2011."
@@herewegoagain... svi and sti made the guns on the mag and frame Chip Mccormick designed. That's a 2011. Para did their thing. And i guess it gets down in the weeds from there.
@@islesfan186 I know I almost feel all tin foil hat conspiracy about it, that Springfield insisted he not compare them or something? When half the comments request it there's no way he simply overlooked it!
It's been a long time since SA has come up with something that made me excited. This makes me excited. I've owned a few Staccatos and I am sure side by the side the Staccato is absolutely a better gun, but for a long time Staccato has dominated the "mid tier" double stack 1911 market (I say mid in " because $2300-2400 is hardly mid tier for most people but when your competitors are $3k+....). It's good to see another option out there for people who want a double stack 1911 but can't shell out $2k+ for a handgun.
I completely agree. This gun will have more cost cutting options. MIM internals, a rougher stock trigger, less quality control, maybe? looser tolerance fitting barrel slide and frame, but this will no doubt get more people into the market. I hope people don’t expect the staccato experience with a Springfield gun….
@@rickhunter6513 smaller batch’s with staccato, higher quality control. All those small things add up, especially MIM parts. This pistol is a great price but for the extra thousand ish you will noticeably tell the difference

In other words, you don't like the political stuff. Too bad. Guns ARE political; and to ignore that fact is a recipe for disaster. I've found that those who resent political commentary on gun channels are usually Left-leaning. Their cognitive dissonance kicks in when they are confronted with the reality that it is their side that it is hell-bent on violating the precious Civil Right, known as the Second Amendment. If the Right to keep and bear arms was not under CONSTANT attack, we would all prefer to simply be entertained by fully monetized, glossy gun porn.

I also own a Staccato C2 and it’s the most accurate duty pistol I’ve ever shot. Springfield looks like they just made their version of the Staccato and cut the price considerably. Can’t wait to get my hands on one and take her for a test drive. Thanks, Colion, for your insightful take on this pistol. I enjoy your videos and appreciate your passion on this subject.
That it's cheaper, I dont think there is much difference. That's kinda what Springfield is after all, nothing wrong with it but you get what you pay for.

History of the 2011 Pistol In 1993, an engineer named Sandy Strayer joined Tripp's business, Tripp Research, and together they designed and built a modular, hi-capacity 1911 frame. The final patent for this new competition pistol, now known as the 2011, was finalized in May of 1994. Article written May 5, 2022
Can't even front, I've been the guy saving his quarters and dimes up in the old water cooler jugs for the day I could pick up an STI at it's hefty $2100 price tag so seeing something that looks to be functionally identical from a solid manufacturer at a lower price brings tears to my eyes. At the same token I was also one of the people who ditched Springfield after they bent the knee in Illinois over licensing, in a way I still don't know if I'm comfortable coming back to them after that decision but that's a personal matter I know is on the mind of a lot of us who still haven't forgiven or forgotten. At the same token I have absolutely zero hate for those good folks making their gear, the people running the machines and keeping the lights on, the folks who designed this tasty treat - it's always management that needs to be held accountable for their actions not the frontline guys.
@@KingdomKillaz117 as to be expected with Springfield. I've seen that company fumble enough with either bad design or QC issues to be skeptical of ever giving them money. They released a 10lb AR-15 with a "monolithic" lower that turns the upper rail of the hand guard into a glorified AK style dust cover. Not sure if I'd trust a 2011 clone from the same people who thought that thing was a good idea.
Thanks a lot Colion I held this gun last week in my local gun store. Politely asked the sales person to put it away as I wasn’t interested in the gun. just now called a dealer and bought this gun in the 4-1/2 barrel. (my first gun purchase ever). even signed up for the conceal carry class they offer as well. great vid. thanks man.
It’s the front heavy bull barrel that soaks up the recoil. My CZ Shadow Target with the Shadow bull barrel is the same. Very front heavy, more than my CZ CTS long slide. Hopefully the Ca Roster will finally be thrown out so we can get this awesome Springfield Prodigy DS. I’d like to see a compact version with a shorter grip so it can be ccw.
I'm from Dallas we called everything Soda Water. From the Umpteen reviews I have seen on this firearm it's only about 2 or 3 of them that run without issues. I'm extremely bothered that I can't get one in Ca! I don't know how long it will take these idiots to realized that the gun is just a tool, that person holding may be the problem, if not mentally stable. Colion, great review, keep up the good work.
With modern machining this thing is probably a tac driver and reliable. I was recently issued a new rifle and I zeroed it in like 12 rounds for both the iron and optics. I fired a three round group, found it consistent, and then did single shots after that. Thing hits steel at 100 yards no problem and if I do my part it is an easy 100% on the qual course. I remember when I was in the army at the turn of the century we would spend at least half a day at the zero range getting zeros right. That is a thing of the past with modern machining. They picked an awesome time to make these pistols.

As of today, this morning, I've watched 3 detailed reviews on this new Springfield DS 1911 and I have to say, I'm loving it. I was going to go with a Stacatto C2/P, or Sig P226/P229 Legion SAO RX eventually, but for the price point of this DS1911 and what I'd like as far as a double stack 1911, Springfield has done it! Great comparison to the Aston Martin DBs👍🏾👍🏾.
Colion, you’re the best go to guy in the business. I just purchased the 5” model today. I wrestled a bit with going to the 4.25 version but ultimately decided on the 5. Glad I did. At 60 I can certainly use the extra sight radius and it just FELT RIGHT. I’ve seen and heard some bad reviews about reliability issues and I’ll bet most will be attributed to the mags. What ammo did you find the gun preferred? I may order some Atlas mags and change the spring to a Wilson combat. The tolerances are tight and my guess is that will help with reliability. Love to hear other peoples thoughts on this issue. I’m staying with it and going to train my ass off with this weapon. Can’t wait to get the ball rolling and spit some lead down range. Love your channel and professionalism. Maybe 1 day we’ll be able to meet up and shoot together. It’ll be a blast and maybe a little competition wager on the side. Always in the fight, stay strong and honorable.
@ColinNoir Did you have any malfunctions with either of these guns? I've seen a ton of videos where the shooters had almost constant FTF and FTE. What was your experience?
This dude gets paid by companies to say good things. I bought the same gun and had to put a heavier recoil spring right away for the gun to just feed rounds properly. My Glock 34 will outshoot this gun all day for half the price.
Shot my brothers full-size prodigy this weekend and knew immediately I was purchasing one. Most excited I’ve been about a factory offering in a long time. Great content my friend.
Lol mine fell apart in 300 rounds but springfield is making it right. Been bouncing my leg for a month waiting for it to come back to me. Both grip screws came out, the front trijicon fiber insert flew out, the rear sight bracket and the rear sight inside the bracket both moved 2mm left, it stopped ejecting, it stopped going into battery, the safety fell out when operated from the right side pedal which sent the little spring and rod into the stratosphere (found it), and… it shot 7” high at 30 yards… and the magazines reallly need to be driven home when topped off or they will not seat. Plus the rounds rattle in the magazines after the last one goes in. 5” model btw.
Best salesman ever..... Great video sir, keep doin what you do. Springfield should be giving you commission on every one sold. Gotta run and pick one up now. Did you get a light strike there toward the end of shooting the 4" model?
Looks like an awesome weapon! I’d love to own one but as it stands, probably not even worth it here in Cali. To limit this to a ten round magazine would be a shame!

I have to agree. After reading your comment, I went and watched the Staccato video. Night and Day difference in his attitude. He loved the Staccato, he read a script on this.
Stick with the avocado or Wilson combat. I’m not sold on Springfield quality control they’re going to give him a very cherry picked gun that has been perfectly fitted you might get lucky with them but you might get a lemon
Us purest just have to evolve I guess! I felt the same way, especially putting a RMR cut slide and picatinny rail frame... Until I fired my Colt Combat Unit in 9mm and then more recently decking out my staccato p with RMR/X300. I think John Browning would approve. At least that's what I say to sleep at night.
Shot one of these over the weekend and man…. This video is an understatement. The gun is AMAZING… it wants to run and run fast like little Ricky Bobby.
Just bought the 5” prodigy, haven’t shot it yet, but I’m super excited. I’ve always carried a full size 1911, and the prodigy is just as comfortable to carry, along with the fact it fits my IWB holster for my previous 1911 perfectly, with double the ammo capacity, and not much extra weight.
Absolutely the best rendition (presentation?). This was probably the most accurate review I've seen. I shot both guns next to my triarc and Staccato And he was dead on with it. The slide on the 5in feels noticeably heavy compared to the 4in. I call the triggers fair to trash. 4in was decent. 5in felt gross. Neither gun compared to my other two guns though.
Too bad it's made by Springfield. My morals and ethics will not allow me to support anti 2a companies. Same reason I haven't bought a VHS (Hellion)... Stop supporting companies that are not fighting for your rights!
Cool, more for the rest of us. By the way, SA did correct their error in that regard and I'm pretty sure SA, being a major firearm manufacturer/importer in the USA, is a 2A supporter, if for no other reason than their bottom line.

But I’ve got to have one the 4” models. I already have a 5” 1911 Springfield loaded that I love that’s not going anywhere. so it will be a matter of time and I’ll get one.
The feeding ramp is polished to a mirror sheen. The slide's been reinforced. And the interlock with the frame is tightened for added precision. The sight system is original, too. The thumb safety is extended to make it easier on the finger. A long-type trigger with non-slip grooves. A ring hammer... The base of the trigger guard's been filed down for a higher grip. And not only that, nearly every part of this gun has been expertly crafted and customized. Where'd you get something like this? *cough* it’s a Springfield

I think staccato trademarked the 2011. Also I believe it comes with a hex optic plate standard and you can buy other plates (made by agency arms) from Springfield. So you should have no issues with a Leupold DPP.
Not at all, many companies have them.
Yeah they did back when it was sti. Wonder if it'll bring down pricing for other models.
That's correct. 2011 is a STi trademark.

Check out Texas plinking. He just did the comparison
@@Gen3tx He used a Staccato XC… not really a direct comparison. Would be better to test a Stacatto P or C2 vs the 1911DS

Pure gun poetry. You are definitely one of my go-to gun content creators. Keep up the great work
It's been a long time since SA has come up with something that made me excited.
Staccato’s are very nice but how much better can it be than this SA? SA knows all about making 1911’s this shouldn’t be such a stretch on quality.
@@rickhunter6513 smaller batch’s with staccato, higher quality control. All those small things add up, especially MIM parts. This pistol is a great price but for the extra thousand ish you will noticeably tell the difference
@@gentso109 I know, inevitably someone is gonna say “well my staccato is way smoother and has a way nicer trigger and doesn’t have MIM parts”. Okay bro, but you could buy 2 of these for the cost of your Staccato lol

Love to see you get back to this style of gun reviews. Presentation, fine firearms, elegance, background music, and supercar references is why I originally subscribed. Great job.
Its a sales pitch, not a review

I have a Staccato C2, and it is the best handgun I have ever owned. But, at this price point, this new Springfield is worth a look.
I was about to say this looks like a staccato
I also own a Staccato C2 and it’s the most accurate duty pistol I’ve ever shot. Springfield looks like they just made their version of the Staccato and cut the price considerably. Can’t wait to get my hands on one and take her for a test drive. Thanks, Colion, for your insightful take on this pistol. I enjoy your videos and appreciate your passion on this subject.
This thing could be huge, especially with the price, looking forward to more content creators getting their hands on it and giving their options

History of the 2011 Pistol
In 1993, an engineer named Sandy Strayer joined Tripp's business, Tripp Research, and together they designed and built a modular, hi-capacity 1911 frame. The final patent for this new competition pistol, now known as the 2011, was finalized in May of 1994. Article written May 5, 2022
My first and only 2011 was the Para ordnance P14 I think. They're out of business now and she's not very reliable but was fun while it lasted.
Double stack 1911's are amazing, the only thing I would change to most of the options out there to make it better suited for me is make them all 10mm.
Amen
Rock island offers a bad ass 10mm double stack 1911
This is that old CN style! Love the out of the box references. Great return to form here.
Careful, these guns have QC issues. I recommend doing some research.
And the magazines too! These magazines should work flawlessly.

How much did you pay? I want one
Is the 1911 even on that bullshit roster?
That is a beautiful gun and I have to agree....that grip texture is absolutely perfect. Even with the documented hiccups its an absolute game changer!
I'm from Dallas we called everything Soda Water. From the Umpteen reviews I have seen on this firearm it's only about 2 or 3 of them that run without issues.

This is Bullshit this pistol has been worked over neariy all reviewers have ftf or fte . I don't believe this is an untouched as factory supplied gun.
I don’t know if there’s anyone that loves themself more than Colin…
It's too bad Springfield decided to collude with anti-gun lawmakers in Illinois to try and carve out a loophole for themselves. This looks like a great gun, but they'll never get my business until they actually fess up.
Please educate yourself on the facts of this incident. It continues to be falsely spread by people who don’t go any further than hearsay around falsehoods and half-truths.
Same.
apparently you've been hiding in a cave. They owned up to their mistake, replaced their lobbying group, and have moved on from that.
@@michaelcrowley7330 Nah, the heads of SA and Rock River were literally the heads of the lobbying group. There was no mistake. They made a bad decision and tried to play like they had no idea what was going on when they got called out by their customers. Then they gave a bunch of money to the NRA as damage control. Funny how the head of SA got an award from the NRA the very next year.
Im a gun toting hippie. I be singing kumbyas and then aiming at the ops. YOU sold me on this weapon system. I'm buying it tomorrow. GREAT VIDEO. Thank you.
