    I got a used Yamaha RX-A3080 for $950 early this year. The receiver was over my budget, but too good of a deal to pass up. I just love it, and will probably last me a decade. I just finished finding deals and setting up all 7.2.4 speakers/subs + an external 3 channel amp. My dad has a 5.1.2 setup, so it's really cool to see the difference. I'm following your advice and finally EXPERIENCING my movies!

    I went from the Marantz NR1711 (7.2) to the Cinema 50. It's complete overkill for my 5.1 system. Mostly because i use a Parasound 2 channel amp on the left and right and an Outlaw 2200 for the center. I will say I love the 50, it looks great, headroom to expand, and it should last a long time. I keep telling myself to lose the external amps but the music sounds so good!

      @@arso111 Well, just FYI… 1) the SR7015 doesn’t support front wides, so it can only support up to a 7.2.4 system. And 2) the new-ish BasX A11 is a great way to power an entire system like that. Otherwise, the Monoprice Monolith 11-Channel amp is a beast. Although that one has 3 200-watt amps (for front soundstage), and 8 100-watt amps for the rest. 🤷‍♂️

    I don't know why, but here in Switzerland the Pioneer VSX-LX305 is an absolut steal. It is regularly priced at around 600$ (after conversion), while all others mentioned in this video are similary priced. At a budget: would you recommend picking this one over the Onkyo (even when at sale)?

      I read a comment that mentioned the Pioneer limits crossovers to groups of speakers, as opposed to the Onkyo which lets you select crossovers for each speaker individually. Don’t know if that would matter a whole lot to you, but if not, might as well go with the LX305 since it’s so much cheaper there. 🤷‍♂️

    Hi Elan, I agreed with you that the RZ70 is way too expensive when considering the RZ50 can be had for about $900 when it is on sale. If the RZ70 had XLR inputs + outputs, that would make the high price a bit more reasonable. Same goes with Marantz, the Cinema 40 should have XLR outputs and a better DAC than the Denon 4800H when there is $1000 difference between the two. These days cheap AVRs ($ 300-500) are considering good buy since they offer tons of features when comparing to some high end AVRs from 5-6 years ago. On the other hand, the mid high end AVRs ($2000-3000) that we see are kind of ripped off since they are basically the low end AVRs but with more outputs and a bigger heatsink, but we need to pay so much more. We need to pay premium nowadays for a high end to get something that is built like a tank and has all kinds of outputs + a nice DAC. And even if we get a high end AVR, the stereo performance is still no match to a $1500 integrated amplifier. There are just my opinions.

    I just have the Sony STR-DH770 a 7.2 basic affordable receiver that’s been good to me for the past 7 years. It’s only about 67 watts at 8 ohms two channels driven. I have it running a 5.1 system and never felt it was short in power in my small living room. All of the good I hear 360 audio software makes me want to get the Sony AZ3000ES. Even without the pre-outs its probably overkill for me but I would probably have it quite a while. Given the 42 lbs the receiver weighs I would assume it’s built from high quality components and would last quite a while. Longer than I would need it for. Might be worth the extra money paid.

      Oof…loaded question. 😄 After reviewing the Sony AZ3000ES, I wish I could’ve experienced movies with the raw power of external amps + 360 Spatial Sound Mapping with an AZ7000ES.
      And I haven’t reviewed something with a high end DAC like an Anthem AVR, but I really enjoyed the slim form factor of the Marantz Cinema 70s + external amps for front L/R in Pure Direct Mode when I listened to CDs in my theater. ♥️

    Ealan, I have had the RZ50 since it came out. I like the sound of movie but music lacks a bit and switching, like CEC, is clunky and slow. @ealanosborne  7 місяців тому

      Hard to say, really. Those 2 AVRs are fairly comparable. But, since you mentioned music, the AZ5000ES may be slightly better in that regard, since in under the parent company of Onkyo, Pioneer and Integra, the Pioneer AVRs are a little more music-friendly, and the Onkyos are more for movies.

    My question, amongst Integra 3.4 9.2 vs Sony AZ3000ES 9.2 vs Denon XR 3800H 9.4 which one is value for money that you would recommend, in terms of features and future proof and lastly, match with Klipsch RP II speakers?! Thanks.

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  2 місяці тому +1

      I'd say the best between those 3 would be the Denon X3800H since it has support for up to 4 subwoofers and Auro 3D on top of all the other features that the Sony and Integra also have. Yes, the Integra has Dirac Live already built in, but the X3800H supports Dirac Live for an additional fee (if you want to spend the extra money). But I still think it's the best bargain today since it has basically everything you'd want in an AVR that can support up to a 7.4.4 immersive audio system. :)

      I really appreciate this advice, as you have now sorted for me the AVR dilemma.
      Kindly the next one, is the Klipsch RP II series (3rd gen, right?) to match with the Denon XR 3800H? - 5.1.2 (short term)
      Kindly take note, my current rented apartment, living room is an 11ft x 11ft + 8.5" ceiling slab, first floor.
      Also, I am currently building a 3 bedroom house with roughly the same living room measurements, that is, 12ft x 14ft + 9ft ceiling (bungalow) - In short, Small-Medium, max!
      Taking into consideration the above,
      Step 1: (Immediate purchase)
      AVR + Which Klipsch RP II Centre Channel?
      Step 2:
      L & R (FL or Book shelves??) Klipsch RP II series (small prints for the Small-Medium living room; best value for the buck w/o compromising on the quality?
      Step 3.
      The Klipsch RP II series Sub - Woofer (10" or 12"??)
      STEP 4:
      Dolby Atmos Klipsch RP II speakers?
      TIMELINE: 1 year, God willing.
      STEP 4:
      Surrounds - Mono, Dipo or Tripo (les)?!
      To mount on either side, against the wall, above the ear level, as the living room set up has no back - What is supposed to be back is the main door entrance to the house!
      My current TV is the Sony X80L 65", 2023 Model.

    I’m deciding between RZ50 + Emotiva amp for LRC channels or iota AVX17 + Emotiva amp, both in 7.2.4 configuration. Do you think the additional cost (around 1k USD) will translate into a big sound difference? If it was you, which way you’d go?

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  11 місяців тому +1

      If you want easy to setup yet AMAZING Dirac Live room correction, or you need next gen gaming features like 4K/120 Hz, VRR, ALLM, etc, I’d go for the RZ50. If you just want some raw audio bliss with a little more manual tinkering involved with room correction, and you want the option of RCA and XLR outputs, AVX17 might be for you.
      At the moment, I’d personally stick with my AVX17, just because I don’t own a PS5 or XBOX Series X. But if that changes anytime soon, I’d probably look at something with more modern features. Maybe leaning towards Arcam or Anthem with their hybrid AVR/preamp topologies and premium DACs, since any other straight preamp processor (other than Emotiva, Tonewinner or IOTA) jumps WAY up in price (a la Storm Audio or Trinnov). Although of course I wouldn’t say no to a Trinnov that was gifted to me. 😄🤘

    It's all a matter of what you like. I had the Yamaha A6A and gave it back before 90 days. The display is so small for me and many of my friends is basically useless.
    The Pioneer differs in another distinct way from Onkyo - Pioneer does not afford you the ability to adjust the crossovers independently. I found this strange. Amps are similar for all models. • @Audiomainia2310

    kindly advise i have 7 channel power amp and can i assign my front, center, and surround and surround back total 7 speakers to my preouts settings and rest 4 channels to my main AVR, and choose 11.1 assign mode in the speakers/amp setting? without adding extra 2 channels to my external amp? OR what will be best setting. Thank you

      @ealanosborne  10 місяців тому +2

      I assume you have a Denon or Marantz AVR? If so, yes! You are correct with your logic. You can power all 7 of your ear-level speakers with your external amp (11.1 amp assign mode), and power the heights with the corresponding internal amps of the AVR.

    Ehh, I already got an a1h shortly after that kit released, in April or May of this year, where I am still trying to find a movie that uses that many channels, if you would have a suggestion I am all ears, I presently have a 9/7.2.6 set up, that can grow to a 9.2.9 set up, if that ever becomes possible or useful…

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  11 місяців тому +1

      Hmmm…well, regardless of channel count, a good Atmos mix should conform to as many speakers as you have, in theory. But yeah, not all mixes actually do that, I know.
      I haven’t tested out a configuration as large as yours, but Godzilla vs Kong came out of my front wides a LOT, as well as Dune and The Matrix. You also might want to check out DTS:X mixes, since the A1H supports the DTS:X Pro rendering engine. All the Jurassic Park/World franchise films are DTS:X. Bad Boys for Life, Jumanji: The Next Level, Zombieland: Double Tap, The Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End), and the Harry Potter saga are DTS:X mixes, too (on 4K Blu-ray, that is…). 🎉🤘

      @@ealanosborne hmm, I will have to dedicate some time, to watch some movies, since I already have a lot of them…since I have been buying a number of blue rays in the past year or two… so I really need to take some time and just watch movies, since I haven’t actually sat down and watched a movie I think since avatar released, which wasn’t at all a reference film at least when it comes to Atmos. I have Dune, matrix, and Godzilla vs Kong, I have all of the Jurassic park movies, Jumanji, and all of the Harry Potter movies mainly since I grew up reading those books, but I had herd a lot of people questioning if the DTS:x upgrade was worth it, for a number of them, but I haven’t actually sat down to watch them, so my plan will probably be to watch the LotR trilogy in 4K, Harry Potter saga in 4K, at some point, within the next few months…

      Comparing the LX503 and LX505 is basically the updated HDMI 2.1 chipset and next gen gaming features (4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM), but more importantly, Dirac Live room correction, which is much better than MCACC.

      That much is obvious. The problem comes with recording which requires setting the Zone 2 outputs to fixed or using an HDMI audio extractor, which I am happy that my Yamaha Aventage RX-A760 does. I would like to point out that while Yamaha pushes the high slew rate amplifiers in their latest Aventage the A760 is right there with them.

    My new receiver has to have 2 pre-outs ... so, after i watch 7 chanel buying guide, Sony AN1000 gets me very interested. But in EU for me the cheapest price option for Sony AN1000 is 830 eur (even on salle) ... the DENON 9.4 channel X3800H with all the pre-outs i get for 900 eur. So, is Sony still the better option for me?

      @@ealanosborne I find it interesting that you took the time to answer. Thank you for that. I appreciate and am honored.
      Unfortunately for me, AV electronics prices are much more expensive in the EU than in the US. For example, a new Sony 75X90L TV costs me from 2400 to 2600 euros. In the US half off that or even less when there are on sales, i think.
      What influence does the brand have? That signature sound of the brand. Because some swear by Marantz, others by Denon or would prefer Onkyo and never Denon between these two (i love to have Onkyo RZ50, but is 1600 eur). Is it possible sometimes to say, for example that a lower ranked Sony AVR could have better sound than a higher ranked Denon? Because Sony is Sony. Of course, I have in mind amateur home theaters. Greetings.

    A remark about the Denons, the older gen 6700 has really old and ugly (by comparison) GUI, which you will be seeing a lot during normal operations. All Denons and Marantz models have the same HEOS music streaming app/system, I'm yet to meet anyone who is happy with it, comparing to e.g. BlueOS or even WIM. The RZ50 is a really good AVR, but being developed in 2021 it probably going to be replaced sometimes soon.

      it will depend on your setup, if you have multiple 4k/8k sources (consoles+PCs etc.) your TV might not have enough hdmi 2.1 ports, or you might have a tv without DTS support and your sources might have DTS thus you want to send the signal first to your AVR then to your TV thus needing 4k/8k/DV/HDR support.
