I'm considering Nagamaki for the length of handle. Having a longer tsuka with full tang may help with balance shift to make the blade less front heavy. Training is the key though.
Beautiful sword! Actually had a question about the larger swords, like the nagamaki and no-dachi. How were they carried, when not in use? Obviously not in the obi, so were they just held in-hand, or perhaps slung over the shoulder? I’ve always been curious about it.
I saw an info, there were two possible ways to carry it. On the back or sheathed in the hand. There were assistants (or how to call it) who helped to draw the swords. Not sure if it´s a truth.
Nagamaki blades aren't much longer than a standard katana so you can carry them around like normal. The handle just sticks out further. Actually, because the cg is much closer to and sometimes in the handle itself if it's a really long handle, it's even easier to draw. The one I use has the balance point where I put my front hand making drawing and swinging it really easy even though it weighs like 2.5kg or something

The average tang in a katana is about 2 inches to keep the blood from running into the same. The reason the tang is all of 2 inches is that the stubs is constructed of fiberglass and hand crafted in Japan to make sure that the taper of the spine is brittle and easy to warp. In these Japanese sword there is also bohi.

Nagamaki Naoshi Zukuri is this sword, its an adjusted nagamaki, but forged that way.
3:10 it’s not a nagamaki, it’s a naginata with a short handle. The blade of naginata isn’t like these of katana, tachi, nagimaki.

No, they definitely get much bigger. This is barely even a nagamaki.
