Rainn & Mindy...such a wonderful moment together - funny and poignant! I lost my 24 year old daughter in November. We knew we loved each other deeply but did not get the chance to achieve that acceptance of friendship. Life is so precious and the work you both perform just adds a bit of extra enjoyment to it!
I'll remember that when I become a father, sincere sympathies Ned. I hope the time comes soon when thinking of her brings a smile before it brings a tear.
Thx very much MJ
I became very close with my mom at 18 and I considered her my best friend. She did so much for me and really helped me grow into a confident person. But once I became 21 she had a brain aneurysm and now it's harder to have deep conversations with her all the time. Instead of being depressed about the situation, I now look at it as an opportunity to give back to my mother and take care of her for a change. Because that's what best friends do, we take care of each other when times get rough.
I admire that. Keep it up
Awww.... 💕💕how are you doing?
"Screw you, beet farmer!" - Kelly Kapoor
Am I losing it or is Rainn kinda hot in this interview...lol
He looks a lot better with facial hair!
*****
So just to be clear you purposely bang your toe on furniture?
That or you have banged your toe on ever piece of furniture?
Lubbylove89 He really does look better with the beard.
Lubbylove89 hes hot in all interviews/ at all times
Thanks
Both of my parents were my BFFs..I lost my mom to cancer in December 2007 and my dad January of last year from Alzheimer's Disease. I'm glad that I became friends with them in my early 20's when I had the chance. Please don't take any time you have with loved ones on this earth for granted. Tomorrow is promised to no one. Although they're both gone I know they're looking after my sisters and I from where they are now. :-)
Can I ask, how do you become friends with your parents? Maybe im stupid but im unsure.
SWIFTzTrigger Hang out, have deep conversations, watch TV together, eat cheesecake, take silly pictures. My folks and I had a mutual respect for each other that a lot of families don't develop. We fought a lot when I was a teenager and believed I knew everything. Then I came to the realization that I'm not the center of the universe and they were just trying to look out for me. It also helped after I moved out. Once I was doing my own thing with school and work and my own place, we had stuff in common to talk about.. like paying the bills on time, high gas prices, all that fun boring grown up crap. They were both nice, hard working, easy going people and so am I. Many people aren't as lucky as I was.
lisa sovulewski It sounds like you have a wonderful upbringing and connection to your family. Thank you for your reply :)
I'm so sorry for your losses. God Bless.
SWIFTzTrigger what does this have anything to do with this
Love her. I LOVE what she said about our childhood prospective of ourselves, when she said about when you're little & you're nerdy or cool or not, none of that sh*t matters when you're an adult so it's okay.
After watching this I started treating my mum like a friend. Thank you Rainn and everyone else at Soul Pancake. The value of your work is inestimable...I'm pretty sure that's a word.
I love how Rainn takes some of the actors from my favorite shows and exposes a much deeper meaningful side to them that I haven't actually contemplated before.
It's a bummer when I see stuff like this, these people are famous and I can't just sit in a Van and talk about this kind of stuff with a guy I respect who could teach me some stuff about stuff I'm interested in. Being invited into a sketchy van to discuss spirituality with Rainn Wilson sounds like the greatest thing, don't even record it haha, just talk to me for 45 minutes.
Dwight, get out of my nook!
Carolina Marchese thatswhatshesaid thatswhatshesaid!
This was one of my favorite MPM interviews. Really liked the connection and history that these two have. Even with differences of thought and ideas, they are able to come together and agree on producing a great video. Thanks!
I tell my mom everything. She never pushed me to tell her anything about my life, though. And in addition she always parented me without judgment - instead, she just wanted to make sure that I was safe and happy (those are actually my father's words). "If I can't stop you from doing something, I'm just going to make sure you can do it as safely as possible." She never preached morality and values to me, but rather slowly helped me cultivate my own compass. And through all of this, she made herself the best friend that I could have ever asked for. I have always been most comfortable going to my mom whenever I am down/panicking/upset. I can only hope to establish this kind of relationship with my own kid(s) when I have them, and be as good of a mother as she has been.
I’m 17 and currently struggling with lots of chronic health problems that have left me unable to function or leave the house. My mom is the only person keeping me going; she’s constantly researching and talking to doctors when I am unable to, and keeps me fed and safe. I wasn’t always super close to her when I was more independent, but now we’re extremely close and share everything with each other. It really created a strong trust between us.
I DO NOT believe Rainn is 47. He looks 30.
jenna fischer is 43 and she looks like shes in her early 20's
BowskiGraphics nah. he looks his age
Are you crazy?😂
BowskiGraphics He acted as Arthur in Six Feet Under in 2001. That's almost 20 years ago and he was an adult at the time
Truuuue
i love how she mentioned something of the stuff in her book! go, mindy! what a great role model you are.
Growing up I always admired my dad for his wisdom and tech savviness. He always knew the answers to everything and was also interested in hearing my opinions. He would pick me up from school and we'd go to a coffee shop and talk about books and movies and life. I've really connected with my mother recently within the past three years and it's been great getting to know and understand her now that I'm an adult. We have so much in common now and I feel like she is one of my best friends.
I can't be friends with my parents... I'm too ashamed of doing adult things in front of them.
I love Mindy!
SOULWAFFLE, OH MY GOD MY CHEEKS HURT FROM SMILING AND LAUGHING TOO MUCH. I loved this episode. I love the relationship y'all have from years of filming a series together. It's adorable.
I LOVE what Rainn said about the connotation of God in our society. I've thought the same thing for years and never heard anyone else articulate it as perfectly.
im crying tears of joy seeing them reunited.
I love you guys! I love how honest and real you are... This is real talk man!
Rainn Wilson... is the BEST!!! :) The Office is a FANTASTIC show!
My mom has always been my best friend, I feel like I can tell her anything and she is always there for me. My dad is pretty amazing too. He passed to me his artist side and I'm so grateful for that. I love them more each day. I am so grateful to have the parents I have, would not change a thing about them.
I am really close with my mom and she is so great. She's always there for me and I can tell her anything. It's really helpful to have effective communication with a parent/guardian.
Please keep this show going.
Rainn looks fine af
My mom became my best friend around 18 too... it was when I started becoming chronically ill, hospitalized many times, and had numerous surgeries. She is my rock and helps me to laugh and keep smiling. We can talk and laugh uncontrollably about anything. She is my rock.
Brilliant video, great company! My father is estranged and I don't care to mend that relationship due to the ways he's hurt my family in the past. However, to compensate that, I am best friends with my mom. This started about a year ago when I was 15 going on 16 and starting the college process. It really helped keep me sane by sharing all the television shows, books, and films I loved with her. We actually seriously connected watching SortedFood on UA-cam. Always been so grateful for her.
My mom and I are best friends... she is 83 now, and I call her every day. It's been that way since I was 16 and she taught me how to drive. :) I loved my dad the same way. I was so sad the day he left this world. I think about him every day. I can only hope that my daughters feel the same about me.
Rainn, will you marry me? My name is Jennifer Wilson and I promise to change it to Jennifer Wilson-Wilson.
I feel I could relate to a lot of things Mindy said here. We have certain commonalities in our backgrounds like Indian and Hindu but not very staunch ones and like her I feel like I was best friends with my mom too. Having lost her a few years ago it gets incredibly difficult to sometimes describe to others that not only do I miss a parent, I miss my best friend too. Although this was largely thanks to her too because I was just a dumb kid growing up and she was largely warm, kind and supportive. We argued a lot but i seriously cannot think of anyone else I have the same connection with. RIP mom, great hanging out with you!
I'm friends with my parents although there's been times where this hasn't been as strong. I think it's beautiful because they have experienced life and you get to hear the stories and struggles so that hopefully you won't have to fall down that same path. Also when they don't agree with you to just accept them for who they are. Like any friend there will always be a different of opinion.
Wasted opportunity to reenact the halloween episode of The Office at 9:47
Mindy: -listening to Rebecca- "What? No... Rainn?..."
Rainn: (Sith mode) "Tell her to stop... Quiet you!"
I think it was supposed to be a little homage to that.
I love these two, the're both so incredibly talented and hilarious.
I tell my mother everything and she will always be there for me and so will I she understands me better than I do which is amazing! LOVE you mom
I grew up with an abusive mother. Shortly after my 19th birthday during the roughest patch in my battle with depression I came forward with everything I had held back. It hasn''t been easy and we still have our issues but she's my right hand woman. I think admitting it isn't easy kinda brings us closer.
I just came across this video bc of my just recently starting (& almost finishing in a week) The Office on Netflix. I absolutely LOVE the relationship you all share, & more so, love the idea behind Soul Pancake. About to go watch the rest of the videos. Can't wait for more!
I had no idea this talk show existed. I've obviously been missing out. My entire idea of a good time is talking with people about life's big (and usually unasked) questions. I enjoy the deep and almost intimate connection that's made when raw topics are covered. It's officially my dream to be in a position where I am granted the opportunity to meet Rainn and be on SoulPancake.
I love you guys! I just watched some of the original office casting videos and Rainn you killed it! And obviously Mindy you are very talented with the Mindy Project and all that you have done. I am not an actor at all but I find you two very inspiring.
My mom is one of my best friends and it's awesome. I'm only 20 but she knows almost everything about me, encourages me all the time, we do things together, talk about our lives, and give each other advice. Of course she's still motherly, still nags me, and still tells me what she thinks is best, but it's really incredible being best friends with my mom. The fact that we are friends is something that most of her friends don't understand or wish they had with their kids.
I am best friends with my mom and I am so grateful for that relationship. I realized that as much as I try to deny it, I am just like her and she has experienced many of the same things I have. I have reached a point where I can tell her (almost) everything and she understands me better than anyone else.
My favorite Metaphysical Milkshake so far!
BEARS ,BEETS, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.
awwwwe Rainn looks just like his dad! down to the lines on his face and the hair line.
I just finished watching the office yesterday and my girlfriend told me that it also happened to be your birthday (rainn) that day which seemed fitting, but it was sad to see the show over. Dwight was always my favorite so I'm glad I found these videos they're really great!
I've been patiently waiting for this.
I read his book the Bassoon King. Rainn Wilson is an amazing writer. He helps the reader understand the importance of your own spiritual journey....but he makes it funny and real.... EVERYONE READ THIS BOOK!!!!!
why does this show not have millions of views?
i also like that this is in a van its really cute and the music is touching too
My dad is my best friend, can talk to the guy about anything. Truly great person love him!
I love the Mindy Project
My mom and I are really close. Around the age of 19 I finally started opening up to her, and letting her give me her opinions and advice, and it was really amazing and helpful. We call each other every week and talk for about and hour and a half each time. Parents can become your friends when you want them instead of need them.
Mindy Kaling you are Art .... Cool Grace
Rainn...thank you, great work
My mom has been my best friend since I can remember anything. My family as a whole, even my in laws, are my favorite people to hang around. I believe if we can get along with family we can befriend anyone and that is a greatness and adds richness to life.
My mom and I are incredibly similar in many ways, including our stubbornness. When I was younger, we fought frequently and I felt like it was always her way or the highway, and dad was "the fun one". Once I got into my late-teens/early twenties, I started to see the similarities more objectively and realize that I had a great friend to talk about the heavier issues of adulthood; someone I knew would understand not only what I was saying, but what I needed to hear in response.
I've gotten along well with my father for a long time, since I was 13. We had some difficult times between us when my mother died, especially since she was one of the most awesome people on the planet. At almost 19, my dad and I get along swimmingly and I feel like he did an awesome job raising me.
I love my dad.
These videos are brilliant!
Dwight k. shrute was the best!!!
And your spelling isn't.

Aw thank you
My mom is my best friend. I started talking to her about everything in my life when I was in high school, and to my surprise it earned her trust, because I never hid anything from her. It definitely helped me mature, and now I feel like I always have someone in my life who will never be judge me or be angry with me.
I love The Mindy Project!!
My mom had me when she was 19 and she was a single parent for most of my life we got pretty close being that it was just the two of us. She says now that obviously she doesn't condone teenage pregnancy but she wouldn't change what happened to her because I was the outcome and everything worked out pretty well for her in the long run.
I am literally here because I couldn't figure out from Mindy's book whether she and Rainn seriously detested eachother! Now I understand.
what happened in the book?
Tell us!!!
I've always been very close to my mom, always told her pretty much everything and she's shared a lot with me now that I'm in my 20's. Since I'm out on my own now we're mostly best friends without too much parenting (as in lectures or telling me to clean my room) now so it's fun and I never want to take that for granted because it really is special and I'm lucky to have someone like her as my mother and my friend.
Love these 2. You can tell the cast of the office really are family
My Mom and I are very close and I feel like she needs me to be her friend as much I need her as mine. There are things you go through as a family that no one else will understand and sometimes you have to be there for one another as a friend during those times.
I'm very good friends with my mom. She actually told me once she never would have thought that she'd give birth to one of her best friends, which made me cry a little. We've always been pretty open with each other and that keeps growing over time. We have a lot we disagree on but in the end we still talk every week about everything going on in our lives.
Your website is such a great idea, and you execute it with the perfect blend of humour, enlightenment, and open-minded-"ness". Cx
It took me 21 years to be friends with my mom and my dad. I can't say we're bestfriends but we're in a relationship where they started to (finally) treat me as an adult and tell me things they wouldn't have told me if i were 7 or 14 or 16. My mom talks to me about her friends and her problems and my dad reaches out to me and tell me his feelings. It's amazing, actually how you finally get to know these people who have been in your lives forever but you're just starting to get to know them now!
I’m best friends with my mom. She didn’t have custody of me growing up and we didn’t have much of a relationship until I moved out on my own when I was 18. We’ve been close ever since. I can talk to her pretty much about everything and even party with her from time to time. My mom is one of the strongest people I know. I love her so much and I believe in when she passes I’ll have a relationship with her, just how mindy feels.
she's so great. I want to read her book.
My dad and I have been friends since I was really young. He's someone I can confide in about questions or problems in my life that involve attitude and patterns of thinking, but also someone who I could enjoy a movie with. He helped me gain more confidence in recent years after a lot of hardship in our family, and he and I laugh together a lot over goofy things we hear or do or hear about. He is probably one of my best friends. I think it's safe to say I'm a daddy's girl.
2:10 THE OFFICE❗️
ive been waiting for this. oh im so happy
I really love Mindy. She is just great!
I never would have thought that she is so cool! And smart
Mindy is so funny! I would love for her to have her own van talk show.
Being friends with my dad is a mix of him being supportive, loving, endearing, and also not afraid to tell it to me straight. It's the best because even when he disapproves, he won't leave. Also, we enjoy the same things so it's not like I only go to him for advice. He'll ask me advice and looks at me like an equal which is something I don't get from many other adults. HE'S SUPER COOL.
im 16 and my dad is one of my best friends, we're really similar in the way that we dont have to be talking or doing something just sitting beside each other with music on as we drive down the highway and its perfect. we bond over soccer, hes my coach which is difficult at some times but he never goes easy on me. i couldnt imagine life without him.
my mom is my best friend. Ive learned that my parents arnt just there to tell me not what to do, but to help me. and they give me freedom in so many ways know, that im pretty sure i wouldnt have if i wasnt close to them.
how have i not heard of this channel!!!
they're so natural together
My dad and I became friends when I started working with him and we'd spend long drives together talking about politics and controversial subjects and I found that we agree on mostly everything. It was nice finally being able to have "adult" conversations with him. We've played music together since I was 10 and he actually taught me how to play guitar so near the end of high school I joined the praise band at my church with him and we've been working together and praising Christ ever since.
I LOVE HER!!!!
In high school I had a lot of beef with my dad, so much that sometimes we would just stand across the room and scream/cry at each other. But since my dad is a psychiatrist, he made me come out and say whatever I was feeling, and the fact that we were both at least communicating with each other (no matter how loud and angry) really helped in the long run. I couldn't tell then but now we are so much stronger because of it. Now I can tease him and joke around and can consider him a real friend.
I call my mom every day even though we are so different and have a checkered past. I just think time is so short and I feel it is a great way to let her know I love her.
I became closer friends with my parents after I graduated from college, and I think a lot of the growth in our relationship has had a lot to do with a better understanding of being an adult and being vulnerable with each other without judgment.
The Office side in me wants to be like, “Why didn’t he invite the rest of The Office casts to join him here?”
I'm very good friends now with my mom, she sacrificed a lot for me when growing up when she looked out for me and my brother after a divorce from my dad. I thought she was incredibly brave and I'm very glad that she's still a big part of my life.
It's not just the comedy world, it is also in life that you can't talk about big things. The world is quite superficial.
Great stuff, Rainn. I nearly moved out for my senior year of high school, but my father told me he wasn't ready to loose me into the world yet. Think arrow. So a year later, after graduation, he took me to Spain. We saw the runners prepping to run with the bulls and I asked him if I could run. Rather than saying no, idiot, he laughed and said "I wouldn't." I didn't run, but I also never again asked his permission for anything. He's been my best friend ever since. Thanks again, Rainn.
