Rainn & Mindy...such a wonderful moment together - funny and poignant! I lost my 24 year old daughter in November. We knew we loved each other deeply but did not get the chance to achieve that acceptance of friendship. Life is so precious and the work you both perform just adds a bit of extra enjoyment to it!

I became very close with my mom at 18 and I considered her my best friend. She did so much for me and really helped me grow into a confident person. But once I became 21 she had a brain aneurysm and now it's harder to have deep conversations with her all the time. Instead of being depressed about the situation, I now look at it as an opportunity to give back to my mother and take care of her for a change. Because that's what best friends do, we take care of each other when times get rough.

Both of my parents were my BFFs..I lost my mom to cancer in December 2007 and my dad January of last year from Alzheimer's Disease. I'm glad that I became friends with them in my early 20's when I had the chance. Please don't take any time you have with loved ones on this earth for granted. Tomorrow is promised to no one. Although they're both gone I know they're looking after my sisters and I from where they are now. :-)

SWIFTzTrigger Hang out, have deep conversations, watch TV together, eat cheesecake, take silly pictures. My folks and I had a mutual respect for each other that a lot of families don't develop. We fought a lot when I was a teenager and believed I knew everything. Then I came to the realization that I'm not the center of the universe and they were just trying to look out for me. It also helped after I moved out. Once I was doing my own thing with school and work and my own place, we had stuff in common to talk about.. like paying the bills on time, high gas prices, all that fun boring grown up crap. They were both nice, hard working, easy going people and so am I. Many people aren't as lucky as I was.

I tell my mom everything. She never pushed me to tell her anything about my life, though. And in addition she always parented me without judgment - instead, she just wanted to make sure that I was safe and happy (those are actually my father's words). "If I can't stop you from doing something, I'm just going to make sure you can do it as safely as possible." She never preached morality and values to me, but rather slowly helped me cultivate my own compass. And through all of this, she made herself the best friend that I could have ever asked for. I have always been most comfortable going to my mom whenever I am down/panicking/upset. I can only hope to establish this kind of relationship with my own kid(s) when I have them, and be as good of a mother as she has been.

I’m 17 and currently struggling with lots of chronic health problems that have left me unable to function or leave the house. My mom is the only person keeping me going; she’s constantly researching and talking to doctors when I am unable to, and keeps me fed and safe. I wasn’t always super close to her when I was more independent, but now we’re extremely close and share everything with each other. It really created a strong trust between us.

Growing up I always admired my dad for his wisdom and tech savviness. He always knew the answers to everything and was also interested in hearing my opinions. He would pick me up from school and we'd go to a coffee shop and talk about books and movies and life. I've really connected with my mother recently within the past three years and it's been great getting to know and understand her now that I'm an adult. We have so much in common now and I feel like she is one of my best friends.

Brilliant video, great company! My father is estranged and I don't care to mend that relationship due to the ways he's hurt my family in the past. However, to compensate that, I am best friends with my mom. This started about a year ago when I was 15 going on 16 and starting the college process. It really helped keep me sane by sharing all the television shows, books, and films I loved with her. We actually seriously connected watching SortedFood on UA-cam. Always been so grateful for her.

I feel I could relate to a lot of things Mindy said here. We have certain commonalities in our backgrounds like Indian and Hindu but not very staunch ones and like her I feel like I was best friends with my mom too. Having lost her a few years ago it gets incredibly difficult to sometimes describe to others that not only do I miss a parent, I miss my best friend too. Although this was largely thanks to her too because I was just a dumb kid growing up and she was largely warm, kind and supportive. We argued a lot but i seriously cannot think of anyone else I have the same connection with. RIP mom, great hanging out with you!

I'm friends with my parents although there's been times where this hasn't been as strong. I think it's beautiful because they have experienced life and you get to hear the stories and struggles so that hopefully you won't have to fall down that same path. Also when they don't agree with you to just accept them for who they are. Like any friend there will always be a different of opinion.

My mom is one of my best friends and it's awesome. I'm only 20 but she knows almost everything about me, encourages me all the time, we do things together, talk about our lives, and give each other advice. Of course she's still motherly, still nags me, and still tells me what she thinks is best, but it's really incredible being best friends with my mom. The fact that we are friends is something that most of her friends don't understand or wish they had with their kids.

My mom and I are incredibly similar in many ways, including our stubbornness. When I was younger, we fought frequently and I felt like it was always her way or the highway, and dad was "the fun one". Once I got into my late-teens/early twenties, I started to see the similarities more objectively and realize that I had a great friend to talk about the heavier issues of adulthood; someone I knew would understand not only what I was saying, but what I needed to hear in response.

My mom talks to me about her friends and her problems and my dad reaches out to me and tell me his feelings. It's amazing, actually how you finally get to know these people who have been in your lives forever but you're just starting to get to know them now!

I’m best friends with my mom. She didn’t have custody of me growing up and we didn’t have much of a relationship until I moved out on my own when I was 18. We’ve been close ever since. I can talk to her pretty much about everything and even party with her from time to time. My mom is one of the strongest people I know. I love her so much and I believe in when she passes I’ll have a relationship with her, just how mindy feels.

My dad and I have been friends since I was really young. He's someone I can confide in about questions or problems in my life that involve attitude and patterns of thinking, but also someone who I could enjoy a movie with. He helped me gain more confidence in recent years after a lot of hardship in our family, and he and I laugh together a lot over goofy things we hear or do or hear about. He is probably one of my best friends. I think it's safe to say I'm a daddy's girl.

Being friends with my dad is a mix of him being supportive, loving, endearing, and also not afraid to tell it to me straight. It's the best because even when he disapproves, he won't leave. Also, we enjoy the same things so it's not like I only go to him for advice. He'll ask me advice and looks at me like an equal which is something I don't get from many other adults. HE'S SUPER COOL.

im 16 and my dad is one of my best friends, we're really similar in the way that we dont have to be talking or doing something just sitting beside each other with music on as we drive down the highway and its perfect. we bond over soccer, hes my coach which is difficult at some times but he never goes easy on me. i couldnt imagine life without him.

My dad and I became friends when I started working with him and we'd spend long drives together talking about politics and controversial subjects and I found that we agree on mostly everything. It was nice finally being able to have "adult" conversations with him. We've played music together since I was 10 and he actually taught me how to play guitar so near the end of high school I joined the praise band at my church with him and we've been working together and praising Christ ever since.

In high school I had a lot of beef with my dad, so much that sometimes we would just stand across the room and scream/cry at each other. But since my dad is a psychiatrist, he made me come out and say whatever I was feeling, and the fact that we were both at least communicating with each other (no matter how loud and angry) really helped in the long run. I couldn't tell then but now we are so much stronger because of it. Now I can tease him and joke around and can consider him a real friend.

I call my mom every day even though we are so different and have a checkered past. I just think time is so short and I feel it is a great way to let her know I love her.

I became closer friends with my parents after I graduated from college, and I think a lot of the growth in our relationship has had a lot to do with a better understanding of being an adult and being vulnerable with each other without judgment.

I'm very good friends now with my mom, she sacrificed a lot for me when growing up when she looked out for me and my brother after a divorce from my dad. I thought she was incredibly brave and I'm very glad that she's still a big part of my life.

It's not just the comedy world, it is also in life that you can't talk about big things. The world is quite superficial.

Great stuff, Rainn. I nearly moved out for my senior year of high school, but my father told me he wasn't ready to loose me into the world yet. Think arrow. So a year later, after graduation, he took me to Spain. We saw the runners prepping to run with the bulls and I asked him if I could run. Rather than saying no, idiot, he laughed and said "I wouldn't." I didn't run, but I also never again asked his permission for anything. He's been my best friend ever since. Thanks again, Rainn.
