    I was a little leery about this technique working for my carpet. I have a very low pile carpet and had a piece of furniture sitting in one spot for several years. It felt to me like the padding underneath the carpet was completely flattened. After removing the furniture, the flat spots were still there 6 months later. It took me all of about 2 minutes to get rid of the flat spots using this method. Thanks a bunch!

    This worked really well for some deep dents so thank you. I did go too long on the first one though and melted my cheap carpet a bit so be careful folks and be aware you might not get it 100% of the way so know when to stop. And keep your towel damp.

    • @whostolemunchkin
      @whostolemunchkin Рік тому +1

      If you have a synthetic/cheap carpet and don't want to risk burning it, turn the iron down. The hottest setting is for linen and cotton, synthetic is a lower temperature - I usually go a bit higher than the actual synthetic setting, roughly halfway (or where the steam marker starts) is a good place to start if you've got a towel over the material/carpet. Better to start a bit lower and turn it up hotter if you need to. You can't unmelt synthetics so better safe than sorry. Also some irons have a "spray" button that works like a little spray bottle if you need to wet the towel a bit more, and you can adjust the steam output as well.
      If you never get the iron out much, the various settings don't seem that important (and/or too much effort) but it does make a difference when you need them. Especially with synthetic materials. I remember my first shirt that instantly melted to the iron before I knew that could even happen (I was a kid)
      BTW this method of ironing is calling "pressing" - used a lot in sewing to set seams. And for ironing fiddly stuff

  • @loribecchi8819
    @loribecchi8819 3 роки тому +2

    I was doing it with just the cloth and the steam iron and it wasn't really working,the trick is you have to rub it after
    when it's still damp and hot,then the mark disappears...and I did it on a berber rug which is a little harder because the pile is so stiff.
    Very good! Thanks!

    Works great! My tenant left deep furniture marks in the carpet. He also left a few stains. I didn't want to rent a steam cleaner, so I used your technique on the stains, spraying first with a carpet cleaner. It did the trick. Now all I have to do is figure out how to repair all the other problems he left behind.
