I ended up with 11 cats due to irresponsible neighbors who didn't spay nor neutered their cats. I took my own money and neutered and spayed them all. I'm a dog person with a heck of a lot of cats. So, I think what you are doing is great.
I thought I must be a rare compassionate animal lover for stray animals as I always feed and help them and I have been told negative and ignorant reminders of so many excuses that prove those people to not do anything morally ethical, humanitarian, loving and compassionate to help these poor innocent animals yet I find myself here with like minded good people like me and I just smile because true ignorance and disregard to help others is a waste of being a human being. Thank you so much for making this video to help me do the same for what I believe in no animals or person belongs homeless or struggling to eat and feel loved. I’m happy to see that there are some good few of us out there making things right.
Better to take the pillows and sheets out and put straw( not hay) down. Straw will dry and not freeze in snowy weather. Also provides some insulation and cushioning between cat and floor. Fairly cheap and cats can burrow into it and rearrange it as they like. Nice dry home to see out of on rainy days. Thank you for what you did for natures owners.
Please don’t feed cats on cement. I worked with a rescue that said they hurt their teeth and sometimes even break them eating off of pavement. Nice house! ❤
I had my neighbour’s cat neutered because he had been in a fight and I couldn’t get a hold of them and he needed surgery, the vet offered a discount if he was neutered at the same time, so I did it … a few months later they moved out and the cat hid so they couldn’t take him and he moved in with me, they never came back for him and he moved house with me several times without an issue and lived a very happy life to the ripe old age of 18
One thing people should know. When ferrel cats are caught and released the vet will nip off one tip of one ear. Its a universal sign the cat has been neuterd. That way you dont send a female back the second time. I once had about 30 cats neuterd .
Thank you so much for your kindness and responsible care of these ferals. We and some neighbors have a few ferals we take care of. We use straw in our shelters and our neighbors put some old towels and cloth pieces in their shelters. After a while, the ferals stopped going into their shelters and they asked us if we had any idea why that might be. I asked them if they were using towels or some sort of cloth in their shelters. They said they were. I told them the cloth was probably frozen and to replace it with clean dry straw. They checked and, sure enough, the towels were frozen. They replaced it with straw and the cats started using the shelters again. Ferals love nesting down in a clean warm bed of straw. Thanks again for al you do to help these beautiful cats.
I wish there were more people like this! I'm taking care of 20 cats because of irresponsible jerks. The cats are all fixed and vaccinated. One kitten had a broken leg. I paid for 2 surgeries. Totally worth it. He's a love. I'm currently converting a wood shed built by the Amish and attaching a big catio. It will have heat and a/c. The cats are a lot of work and expense but I couldn't just let them suffer and die before my eyes. Not exactly how I envisioned retirement but there you are. My wonderful husband used to help but he passed away. Now I guess I'm just a crazy cat lady ... not by choice.
I'm feeding 25 cats now, all due to irresponsible people. So far we we've had 19 fixed. Working on catching the last 6 who were abandoned by a neighbor that moved and left them!
What a wonderful job your doing. That is so kind of you, it’s nice to see their are awesome selfless people who care about these babies. God bless you🙏🏽
My city does the trap and release program and I’m so thankful. Years ago we had a female stray who kept having kittens. We got her spayed and released her. All the Toms went away and she became our outdoor cat. She would never let us get too close but she knew she was safe. She would meow at us and hang around. She stayed around for a few years until one day she disappeared. I am comforted that I know her last years were good.
Unfortunately when you do this you have to get used to the idea that one day each one will disappear. I am missing two right now, which I'm sure have probably crossed the rainbow bridge somewhere. One had been with me for 3 years, the other one two. Funny how you get attached to them and have names for each one. All of my feral cats have grown friendly to me and I have neutered them all. I no longer have a snake problem nor a rodent problem.
You are amazing. I have done the same thing with feral cats in my area. By doing what you did, you prevented thousands of unwanted kittens being born. It is a great feeling to do that for animals in need. Your cats look so healthy! Thank you. Love from Texas
Your cat colony is very lucky to have you as their caretaker. Straw is the recommended bedding for a outdoor cat shelters, it doesn't absorb water like hay or blankets.
Fantastic, I caught neutered and released 25 feral cats on my farm, some have become really friendly and some still just want to keep to themselves, the older ones have died now but they still give me lots of hours of joy just watching them live their lives out in health and safety.
That's fantastic! Keep up the good work :-) Oh, if we could only get veterinarians to lower the cost of their spay and neutering by at least 75% I think more people would jump on the bandwagon of doing it. It would help out the population so much if the veterinarians everywhere would do that.
@@michelle4153 When I lived in Cali earlier, the local Humane society provided vets on a rotating basis on Tuesdays to offer a spay clinic. You registered on the phone, had pet and $25 fee ready at the site at 7 am. You picked them up at 4 pm, and given a phone number to call that night if there were any problems. This is the way to go, because even though it is nuts, people don't want to spend money on vet care. We were (and are) grateful this service was provided. God bless animal vets !!
For a couple who supposedly don't care much for cats you are taking such good care of them. You are both loving and humane! I'm assuming you're not taking them with you when you move, so the buyers will have to be willing to continue on, I hope. Utmost respect for you!!!
That was my thought as well. I know "cat people" who don't look after their cats nearly as well as this man has...not cat people? Well you could have fooled me! True non-cat people wouldn't have even noticed them there...

The amount of people commenting who are so concerned “oooh, don’t fix someone else’s cat, they might want to breed it” is ridiculous. Just stop. Not like any of you actually care. If you did you’d know how important TNR is.
Anyone who lets their cat run loose to the extent that a neighbor could trap it and get it neutered before they even missed it has no business breeding ANYTHING.

Wow… you are GOOD PEOPLE.. and that’s an understatement. And tho you deny it.. sorry.. you are now cat people! Your big heart is inspiring! Thank you for taking care of these special creatures.
That's a nice cat house, but why don't you have straw in there instead of blankets? Straw holds the heat better than cloth, cloth freezes when it gets damp from the moisture in the air. Put about a foot thick layer of straw so the can burrow in it.
I'M so happy to see that there's other people out there who do this. I have a colony which started when an unknown van dropped off a pregnant female in my front yard. She was very people friendly right away so I figured she was a pet that was no longer wanted. She had kittens about a week later and they have grown up. We were neutering the new kittens one per week. but before we got all of them fixed one got pregnant and had 3 more. Now we have a colony of 11 cats, all of them thankfully neutered! Thank you for the idea about the cat house. I had been providing ice coolers with insulation for them, but your idea seems much better, so I guess I need to work on one. Thank you.
We have 12 + in a community colony. I have just started with the TNR and it’s a drain on your $ and time, but so worthwhile. We are enjoying our group, playing every night with the kittens. We go through a lot of food! Now I am realizing I need to build them a shelter. Being in Texas helps a lot. It never gets that cold, but when it rains, where can they go? I worry so much for them.
I was never a cat person. Then I found a cat on my car one day and he wouldn't leave me alone, so now I have a cat. Got him fixed. Now he lives a good life.
I have been caring for a feral colony for about 10 years now where I live, out in the country. They have all been through the trap, neuter, return system because like you were saying, the size of the colony was getting out of hand. My only concern with your house, which is a great idea, is the door. I have an old shed in which the cats can get in and out of, where I have a bunch of individual little homes for them inside and because of raccoons and other animals the doors to their homes need to be high up and small so nobody else can get in. I use straw inside their homes which I think makes good comfortable bedding and helps keep them warm in the winter. Thank you for caring for these guys!
@@GnosticAtheist Please consider my comment as a compliment :) 👍🏻 because many people say they like/love cats But they dont even bother to Take care of their cats properly
Myself as an 8-cat owner, almost half of them rescued ones plus other strays to pay attention too, it’s time & finance consuming. But again we think with ‘heart’ involved not only mathematics 😊
Thank you for fixing them. I’ve done tnr for years in 2 different countries on top of working. It’s very important because they are predatory and if you dropped them off they would be attacked. They shouldn’t even be outside in cold weather - they weren’t made to be cold. Thank you soooo much for taking care of them. You are exactly correct about people and not wanting to be responsible. You are amazing guys! Thank you for learning and being compassionate!!!
You did everything right, got them fixed. We had a group of feral cats and this kind lady would come every day and feed them. She would take a few at a time to get fixed. They lived out their lives in peace. As far as I know we no longer have any stray or homeless pets in our town in Ketchikan Ak.
The cats look happy and healthy thanks to you. Do not listen to naysayers, they are the ones who do absolutely nothing to help only judge. You’ve done a WONDERFUL job.
The way a person responds to animals, and treats animals, is a good indication of the kind of person they are. This is a wonderful story, and you are good people for doing this. Thank you.
You are wonderful people! My mother- in- law had 8 strays on her property. We were able to fix them through a free feral program in San Jose CA.. She kept 6 and I have the mother. The Shelter kept 1 and said they'd have no trouble adopting it out. Thank you again for your time and kindness to those wonderful cats!
Well done. Exactly the right thing to do. The SPCA suggests the same actions. When they are wild, catching them and getting them fixed is the most important thing you can do.
So grateful for compassionate people like you! Thank you so much for educating yourself and opening your heart and home to these animals! Love this so much!
My husband and I did that twelve years ago for twenty four feral cats. We caught them, neutered them, inoculated them, built houses three in all and leased them. We have one and a half acres. We feed them daily.
I am so happy that you didn't get rid of the cats. I live in South Korea, and I take care of a small feral colony in my own neighborhood. It is so rewarding to see them get healthier with regular feeding. I feed them dinner only 5 days a week, when I come home from work. They come running to see me. They still have to hunt for rats and mice in the neighborhood, so I don't feed them much. I let them live the way they want. I can't afford to get them all fixed, so nature truly takes it's course with them. Winter is the hardest, but they survive. I wish I could build a small house for them for the winter, but with all the houses, and the crummy neighbors, I can't. Thank you for caring, even though it wasn't what you really wanted to do at first. Kindness is always rewarded.
it makes me feel so good see what you are doing. your a blessing.. God bless.you and your family Good peoples.youmake this world a much better place. Thank You.!
Thank you for caring for the cats. I always had dogs but loved cats. A cat showed up at our house. We did not know she was pregnant. Now we have 11 cats. All fixed and they all have their shots. We love them all. Blessings 👍❤️🙏 and thank you again.
I have 13 cats and 3 dogs, all the cats except for 2 are rescues.Also,2 out of 3 of our dogs are also rescues,ALL of my critters are fixed and have regular Vet schedules. A decent portion of my salary goes to making sure everyone is as happy & healthy as possible.I wouldn't have it any other way,I love each and everyone as if they are my children.🐶😻😺😻🐶
Even though this was done six years ago, a big thank you for taking them to the vets to be fixed, this does help tremendously with all the unwanted strays in our world. I will say once you have a kitty in your life, you will love it. Thank you for building this kitty house for them!
I think it's a very kind thing that you've done. Many years ago, we lured a feral cat to our house by moving food closer to our house each day. She was very thin and hungry, but it still took a good month to get her to where she would go in our garage. We moved her across the country when we moved, and she lived to be quite old. She could go outside if she chose, but she really preferred the garage. We did have a litter box for her along with a little bed and food and water. She never became a friendly cat, so I would never have brought her in our house to live with our indoor cats. Many people thought we were a little nutty to care for a cat that was never a true pet, but I have no regrets.
Allison Lawson same! I was extremely poor and I put my cat before myself, paid over 200 dollars on vet bills multiple visits. My cat ate better than I did
Thank you for taking responsibility for the cats on your land. If people did this the feral colonies would not be like they are now. Take care and let the kitties know they are taken care of.
you need to put cedar in the house or straw ..pillows and blankets just get wet and stay wet and makes colder for the cat ..plus cedar is a good bug repellant ..you don't have to change but once a year or so ..straw, you might have to change more often like once every season
This is my story and what I'm currently going through. Trying to get them fixed and was searching for a video on how to build them a shelter. This is encouragement.
As a side note, it always helps to get to know people at your local shelters and rescue organizations. I've been able to connect with all kinds of people who have been a tremendous help such as finding foster families for kittens, help finding people to bottle feed kittens when I wasn't well enough to do so, borrowing traps for TNR, etc.
I knew a lady who did this down at the docks/marine area. I offered to pay for a couple spay/neuters for her to help with the expense but she said that she's partnered with the pound and that they do the surgeries for free for her colony, and several other local colonies. She said some food would be nice to donate though. Since I didn't know what to buy, I just gave her the $ to use as she needed. SO... for those of you who don't want/can't take on a colony, find someone who has, and help them out a bit with $/food. BTW, feral cats are often welcome in marine areas to keep the rodent population down.
Grandma kitty is very happy, content, and in a playful mood. Her tail is up and in a curly cue at the tip. Good for you both for having the heart to care about their welfare and wellbeing. 🙏
Good advice...I was taking care of a few feral cats at my old house(I found them a wonderful home on a farm with a really nice lady and a warm barn to live in before I moved) and I used straw as bedding for their little houses..it kept them warm and it was easy to dispose of and replace :)
Last year we ended up with a male feral cat, he was full of worms and had a severe infection to his cheek and one of his leg. He was a friendly cat so we brought him to the vet, got him fixed had his shots and now he no longer sleeps in his tiny house he sleeps in our house.
Here's a reason, I'm allergic to cats. Don't get me wrong, I love cats, but I get itchy, puffy eyes, irritated skin and my asthma acts up. It's not much fun. My youngest son had a cat and it chose my lap as its main seat by the fire every evening. It was hell for me but the cat loved it.
veterinary, food, construction, maintenance and cleaning cost adds up. most folks can only afford to keep a couple cats properly. it is hard to make enough money and also spend it only on cats.
I ended up with 11 cats due to irresponsible neighbors who didn't spay nor neutered their cats. I took my own money and neutered and spayed them all. I'm a dog person with a heck of a lot of cats. So, I think what you are doing is great.
God bless you !! Never a cat owner myself this happend to 3 years ago. Now I have 13 !! Had everyone fixed

Thanks for making sure they're safe from lousy people! That's a great house, you're good people.
well its a nice cat shelter most people just cut out a box or use a dog house, hope the next people are cat lovers
But, see…?! You have compassion for these creatures…THANK YOU!! 👍🏼🥰🩴👣. BTW, feral cats (and the barn cats ) will keep rodents away… ☺️🩴👣
I love you. You'll never know how you'll feel about a cat until you have one. Thank you .
Great solution. And very compassionate. Even though the cats can't tell you, believe me, they appreciate what you have done.
Thank you for helping the animals👍They are beautiful 🐈🐈⬛🐈
"We don't like cats. But we built them a home anyway." 😆
Good on you for caring for the colony. Grandma is so pretty, and such a chatter cat, I'm sure she appreciates her safe new home.
The cats look happy and healthy thanks to you.
Do not listen to naysayers, they are the ones who do absolutely nothing to help only judge.
You’ve done a WONDERFUL job.
Thank you for taking care of them.
Thank you for caring for the ferals. They need us, and without our help, they will suffer.
Kindness is always rewarded.
this was such a nice thing to do! Leaving a feral cat outside is actually a better option
it makes me feel so good see what you are doing. your a blessing.. God bless.you and your family
Good peoples.youmake this world a much better place. Thank You.!
Thank you for caring for the cats. I always had dogs but loved cats. A cat showed up at our house. We did not know she was pregnant. Now we have 11 cats. All fixed and they all have their shots. We love them all. Blessings 👍❤️🙏 and thank you again.
Thank you for loving these kitties. Grandma is beautiful!
Me too I have 15 and they are all so precious.... ❤️❤️
I can only say YES. You are right.
I've known people that Want cats, but are not responsible for them. I like your thoughts on the subject. CHEERS.
I'm poor and take excellent care of my cat. He never goes without. I would put him before myself. That being said, I love your cat house!
Allison Lawson same! I was extremely poor and I put my cat before myself, paid over 200 dollars on vet bills multiple visits. My cat ate better than I did
For people who don't like cats, you sure are kind to them! What an awesome cat house for the outdoor cats! And they look well-fed and happy.
Thank you for taking responsibility for the cats on your land. If people did this the feral colonies would not be like they are now. Take care and let the kitties know they are taken care of.
RESPECT MAN! You built them a shelter and spayed them. Good job
Good man! Taking care of our friends!
you need to put cedar in the house or straw ..pillows and blankets just get wet and stay wet and makes colder for the cat ..plus cedar is a good bug repellant ..you don't have to change but once a year or so ..straw, you might have to change more often like once every season
Roseanna Rios Thank you. Someone gave me info to a facility that can help get the kittens adopted.
Use straw as bedding it's a good insulator doesn't mold like blankets and pillows
Good advice...I was taking care of a few feral cats at my old house(I found them a wonderful home on a farm with a really nice lady and a warm barn to live in before I moved) and I used straw as bedding for their little houses..it kept them warm and it was easy to dispose of and replace :)
wrxwagoncrew
and can be changed easily and cheaply
Thank you for this comment, so many don't know about that factor!
Thanks for being responsible. They look beautiful.
Last year we ended up with a male feral cat, he was full of worms and had a severe infection to his cheek and one of his leg. He was a friendly cat so we brought him to the vet, got him fixed had his shots and now he no longer sleeps in his tiny house he sleeps in our house.
❤
The real answer is: why wouldn’t you? I would build a damn cat city.
ilikeceral3, imagine that! Forget about the city of gold!
benjovi55 My grandfather owned a lot of land and there he housed 100 cats and 3 dogs.
Here's a reason, I'm allergic to cats. Don't get me wrong, I love cats, but I get itchy, puffy eyes, irritated skin and my asthma acts up. It's not much fun. My youngest son had a cat and it chose my lap as its main seat by the fire every evening. It was hell for me but the cat loved it.
i want to go to Cat City! .. like Mecca for crazy cat ladies
veterinary, food, construction, maintenance and cleaning cost adds up. most folks can only afford to keep a couple cats properly. it is hard to make enough money and also spend it only on cats.
What you're doing for those kitties is quite inspirational.
I love all animals and I think you are amazing people for taking such good care of these cats! Thank you!!
Great job! Glad there are people like you around who are willing to take the time to help out and research the best possible solutions for stray cats.
I am impressed. Most people don't bother reading the current research on cat colonies. The cats look great and happy. Thanks for caring!
