I was never a cat person. Then I found a cat on my car one day and he wouldn't leave me alone, so now I have a cat. Got him fixed. Now he lives a good life.
Better to take the pillows and sheets out and put straw( not hay) down. Straw will dry and not freeze in snowy weather. Also provides some insulation and cushioning between cat and floor. Fairly cheap and cats can burrow into it and rearrange it as they like. Nice dry home to see out of on rainy days. Thank you for what you did for natures owners.
I ended up with 11 cats due to irresponsible neighbors who didn't spay nor neutered their cats. I took my own money and neutered and spayed them all. I'm a dog person with a heck of a lot of cats. So, I think what you are doing is great.
I thought I must be a rare compassionate animal lover for stray animals as I always feed and help them and I have been told negative and ignorant reminders of so many excuses that prove those people to not do anything morally ethical, humanitarian, loving and compassionate to help these poor innocent animals yet I find myself here with like minded good people like me and I just smile because true ignorance and disregard to help others is a waste of being a human being. Thank you so much for making this video to help me do the same for what I believe in no animals or person belongs homeless or struggling to eat and feel loved. I’m happy to see that there are some good few of us out there making things right.
Use straw friend. My vet said that will keep them warmer by not drawing frost into the living area. Plus they can nest. They will kill rodents, spiders and even snakes. I trick I have learned working TNR with the cat waste is to put a sand pile away from their eating and sleeping areas. 9 out of 10 will go right to the loose sand and use it to dig deep and bury their waste and it is a natural filter. Gos Bless you for learning about TNR and making them part of your home.
I had my neighbour’s cat neutered because he had been in a fight and I couldn’t get a hold of them and he needed surgery, the vet offered a discount if he was neutered at the same time, so I did it … a few months later they moved out and the cat hid so they couldn’t take him and he moved in with me, they never came back for him and he moved house with me several times without an issue and lived a very happy life to the ripe old age of 18
If you're not a 'cat person' then you have a lot to teach those who consider themselves 'cat people'. You have been so kind & responsible with this situation. I do cat rescue & I'm an advocate...I would LOVE to see more people exactly like you who practice TNR & just take the time to put a little food out once in awhile... Thank you so much for all you're doing!
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway I do agree! Those we rescue from 'homes' only to find the cat or cats have been abused. I'm not sure if this happens because they are small & have difficulty fighting back or if all the 'hate stories' over the decades have made people distrustful of them. Whatever it is, it's a shame. I've had all sorts of animals in my life for as long as I can remember...cats, dogs, squirrels, skunks, snakes, lizards & all imaginable different birds. They all have something to give & if we open our minds, there's so much to learn. All of which is good.
THANK YOU!!! So many people accommodate stray cats, never fix them, and ADD TO THE PROBLEM by drawing more fertile cats to the area so they can just breed further. A lot of animal societies will spay/neuter for free, all you have to do is essentially rent the traps, and after you return the traps, YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK. It's so easy but so many people are lazy and won't do it!!
Thank you so much for your kindness and responsible care of these ferals. We and some neighbors have a few ferals we take care of. We use straw in our shelters and our neighbors put some old towels and cloth pieces in their shelters. After a while, the ferals stopped going into their shelters and they asked us if we had any idea why that might be. I asked them if they were using towels or some sort of cloth in their shelters. They said they were. I told them the cloth was probably frozen and to replace it with clean dry straw. They checked and, sure enough, the towels were frozen. They replaced it with straw and the cats started using the shelters again. Ferals love nesting down in a clean warm bed of straw. Thanks again for al you do to help these beautiful cats.
Fantastic, I caught neutered and released 25 feral cats on my farm, some have become really friendly and some still just want to keep to themselves, the older ones have died now but they still give me lots of hours of joy just watching them live their lives out in health and safety.
That's fantastic! Keep up the good work :-) Oh, if we could only get veterinarians to lower the cost of their spay and neutering by at least 75% I think more people would jump on the bandwagon of doing it. It would help out the population so much if the veterinarians everywhere would do that.
@@michelle4153 When I lived in Cali earlier, the local Humane society provided vets on a rotating basis on Tuesdays to offer a spay clinic. You registered on the phone, had pet and $25 fee ready at the site at 7 am. You picked them up at 4 pm, and given a phone number to call that night if there were any problems. This is the way to go, because even though it is nuts, people don't want to spend money on vet care. We were (and are) grateful this service was provided. God bless animal vets !!
My city does the trap and release program and I’m so thankful. Years ago we had a female stray who kept having kittens. We got her spayed and released her. All the Toms went away and she became our outdoor cat. She would never let us get too close but she knew she was safe. She would meow at us and hang around. She stayed around for a few years until one day she disappeared. I am comforted that I know her last years were good.
Unfortunately when you do this you have to get used to the idea that one day each one will disappear. I am missing two right now, which I'm sure have probably crossed the rainbow bridge somewhere. One had been with me for 3 years, the other one two. Funny how you get attached to them and have names for each one. All of my feral cats have grown friendly to me and I have neutered them all. I no longer have a snake problem nor a rodent problem.
Your cat colony is very lucky to have you as their caretaker. Straw is the recommended bedding for a outdoor cat shelters, it doesn't absorb water like hay or blankets.
One thing people should know. When ferrel cats are caught and released the vet will nip off one tip of one ear. Its a universal sign the cat has been neuterd. That way you dont send a female back the second time. I once had about 30 cats neuterd .
I tend to a cat colony in my backyard. I inherited some of them from my Mother. When she died, I moved into her house and have been taking care of the kitties that I helped her arrange to be TNR. From time to time a new cat wanders in and if they stick around, I catch them, take them to the vet, and out they go. Blessings
You are amazing. I have done the same thing with feral cats in my area. By doing what you did, you prevented thousands of unwanted kittens being born. It is a great feeling to do that for animals in need. Your cats look so healthy! Thank you. Love from Texas
We have 12 + in a community colony. I have just started with the TNR and it’s a drain on your $ and time, but so worthwhile. We are enjoying our group, playing every night with the kittens. We go through a lot of food! Now I am realizing I need to build them a shelter. Being in Texas helps a lot. It never gets that cold, but when it rains, where can they go? I worry so much for them.
Wow… you are GOOD PEOPLE.. and that’s an understatement. And tho you deny it.. sorry.. you are now cat people! Your big heart is inspiring! Thank you for taking care of these special creatures.
God bless you for doing this. I have my own fur baby who wants for nothing. I donate to charity and would like to volunteer or Foster one day. Sad that more people don't do more for these incredible creatures ❤
Follow-up comment about their bedding... Barn straw (not hay, which is feed) is what you're supposed to use for their bedding. It's "toasty" warm, retains the animal's body heat and is comfortable to sleep on. NOT blankets and pillows, especially not cotton! Use lots and lots of straw. You can purchase it at a feed store, or some pet supply and garden nurseries sell it. It's cheap, and it's the best for this application! Blankets and sheets get wet and soiled, causing the cats' fur to get damp and cold. Their coat must remain DRY. Cotton sheets are the absolute worst, as they do NOT offer warmth to the cats. Also, cloth bedding needs to be cleaned, and mites and other pests can accumulate in there. But STRAW can be swept out down to the bare floor and tossed away. This is the bedding material recommended by Alley Cat Allies.
Thank you... I also take care of a colony of feral. Instead of the pillow or a sheet please try to get straw as a bedding for the cats. Straw is the best thing for them. Thank you so much for what you do for them. You are great people!❤️
You, guys did a wonderful thing for these awsome feral cats. They look healthy and happy and the whole concept is perfect for them and you. God bless you🐱🐈😺💝👍

Myself as an 8-cat owner, almost half of them rescued ones plus other strays to pay attention too, it’s time & finance consuming. But again we think with ‘heart’ involved not only mathematics 😊
I'M so happy to see that there's other people out there who do this. I have a colony which started when an unknown van dropped off a pregnant female in my front yard. She was very people friendly right away so I figured she was a pet that was no longer wanted. She had kittens about a week later and they have grown up. We were neutering the new kittens one per week. but before we got all of them fixed one got pregnant and had 3 more. Now we have a colony of 11 cats, all of them thankfully neutered! Thank you for the idea about the cat house. I had been providing ice coolers with insulation for them, but your idea seems much better, so I guess I need to work on one. Thank you.
I have been caring for a feral colony for about 10 years now where I live, out in the country. They have all been through the trap, neuter, return system because like you were saying, the size of the colony was getting out of hand. My only concern with your house, which is a great idea, is the door. I have an old shed in which the cats can get in and out of, where I have a bunch of individual little homes for them inside and because of raccoons and other animals the doors to their homes need to be high up and small so nobody else can get in. I use straw inside their homes which I think makes good comfortable bedding and helps keep them warm in the winter. Thank you for caring for these guys!
The cats look happy and healthy thanks to you. Do not listen to naysayers, they are the ones who do absolutely nothing to help only judge. You’ve done a WONDERFUL job.
The way a person responds to animals, and treats animals, is a good indication of the kind of person they are. This is a wonderful story, and you are good people for doing this. Thank you.
What good people you are -- helped the feral queen, helped all her kittens, got them all fixed, stabilized your population, built them a shelter. God bless you.
We have a lot of cats because people dump them at our dead end street. I cannot see a cat who is hungry and not feed it. We captured all of the cats and got them all fixed. I love this cat house it’s very nice as are you all for taking care of them. 💕💕💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈
I wish there were more people like this! I'm taking care of 20 cats because of irresponsible jerks. The cats are all fixed and vaccinated. One kitten had a broken leg. I paid for 2 surgeries. Totally worth it. He's a love. I'm currently converting a wood shed built by the Amish and attaching a big catio. It will have heat and a/c. The cats are a lot of work and expense but I couldn't just let them suffer and die before my eyes. Not exactly how I envisioned retirement but there you are. My wonderful husband used to help but he passed away. Now I guess I'm just a crazy cat lady ... not by choice.
Well done. Exactly the right thing to do. The SPCA suggests the same actions. When they are wild, catching them and getting them fixed is the most important thing you can do.
You did everything right, got them fixed. We had a group of feral cats and this kind lady would come every day and feed them. She would take a few at a time to get fixed. They lived out their lives in peace. As far as I know we no longer have any stray or homeless pets in our town in Ketchikan Ak.
For a couple who supposedly don't care much for cats you are taking such good care of them. You are both loving and humane! I'm assuming you're not taking them with you when you move, so the buyers will have to be willing to continue on, I hope. Utmost respect for you!!!
That was my thought as well. I know "cat people" who don't look after their cats nearly as well as this man has...not cat people? Well you could have fooled me! True non-cat people wouldn't have even noticed them there...
That's a nice cat house, but why don't you have straw in there instead of blankets? Straw holds the heat better than cloth, cloth freezes when it gets damp from the moisture in the air. Put about a foot thick layer of straw so the can burrow in it.
Even though this was done six years ago, a big thank you for taking them to the vets to be fixed, this does help tremendously with all the unwanted strays in our world. I will say once you have a kitty in your life, you will love it. Thank you for building this kitty house for them!
So grateful for compassionate people like you! Thank you so much for educating yourself and opening your heart and home to these animals! Love this so much!
Thank you for fixing them. I’ve done tnr for years in 2 different countries on top of working. It’s very important because they are predatory and if you dropped them off they would be attacked. They shouldn’t even be outside in cold weather - they weren’t made to be cold. Thank you soooo much for taking care of them. You are exactly correct about people and not wanting to be responsible. You are amazing guys! Thank you for learning and being compassionate!!!
They are all beautiful and look very healthy. Thank you for doing what you did and keep doing for them. Not many people really care for cats, like dogs anyway. I love, love cats but I also love dogs. I have 2 of each and feed whichever ones roaming that want to come eat. Cats tho have a special place in my heart, all cats! Again thank you
I am so happy that you didn't get rid of the cats. I live in South Korea, and I take care of a small feral colony in my own neighborhood. It is so rewarding to see them get healthier with regular feeding. I feed them dinner only 5 days a week, when I come home from work. They come running to see me. They still have to hunt for rats and mice in the neighborhood, so I don't feed them much. I let them live the way they want. I can't afford to get them all fixed, so nature truly takes it's course with them. Winter is the hardest, but they survive. I wish I could build a small house for them for the winter, but with all the houses, and the crummy neighbors, I can't. Thank you for caring, even though it wasn't what you really wanted to do at first. Kindness is always rewarded.
We built foam houses for a group of cats that live in our garage, and even have a wood stove for cold nights (we live in Canada). There is a cat rescue that helps us catch, fix and give rabies shots to any new ones. They also help us re-home some of them. At one point we had tens cats hanging around, and are now down to three. We had one cat so feral it growled at you if you spoke to it.
Thank you for taking responsibility for the cats on your land. If people did this the feral colonies would not be like they are now. Take care and let the kitties know they are taken care of.
You are wonderful people! My mother- in- law had 8 strays on her property. We were able to fix them through a free feral program in San Jose CA.. She kept 6 and I have the mother. The Shelter kept 1 and said they'd have no trouble adopting it out. Thank you again for your time and kindness to those wonderful cats!
Thank you for your compassion and common sense approach to cats that you never wanted! Thank you for having them spayed/neutered to cut down on overpopulation. As you said, there are nationwide programs to help with feral cats called TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return). And many so-called feral cats are quite friendly. I love that you built them a house, what a great design! I like that it is raised off the ground and I LOVE the window! Gives them light and a view of their surroundings, plus you can look in easily and see how they're doing.
What kindness you are showing to these beautiful cats! If only more people were like you. Feral cats are just the best, a little more aloof, but they need love and care. And what a wonderful cat house.....very envious.
Thank you for caring for the cats. I always had dogs but loved cats. A cat showed up at our house. We did not know she was pregnant. Now we have 11 cats. All fixed and they all have their shots. We love them all. Blessings 👍❤️🙏 and thank you again.

What good people you are -- helped the feral queen, helped all her kittens, got them all fixed, stabilized your population, built them a shelter. God bless you.
The cat grandmother really appreciates what you've done for her and her family. The trust is evident.
I love all animals and I think you are amazing people for taking such good care of these cats! Thank you!!
What a heartwarming story of a feral Colony caretaker and his cats! Great job! You’re doing a good thing for these sweet little ones!
Thank you for caring for the ferals. They need us, and without our help, they will suffer.
I love you. You'll never know how you'll feel about a cat until you have one. Thank you .
I manage two cat colonies. That’s amazing you’re able to build them a home. Just a suggestion straw in their home with keep them warm and dry 😊
Awesome! Can't tell you how much I appreciate you helping these cats. What a great example of a human being.
Ahhh admirable. You guys make my heart feel so happy. Such a little effort can go a long way. Responsible. Thanks for these efforts
Thanks for your kindness to these animals. Too many people treat cats extremely cruel. Blessings on you.
Well done. Exactly the right thing to do. The SPCA suggests the same actions. When they are wild, catching them and getting them fixed is the most important thing you can do.
Good man! Taking care of our friends!
You did everything right, got them fixed. We had a group of feral cats and this kind lady would come every day and feed them. She would take a few at a time to get fixed. They lived out their lives in peace. As far as I know we no longer have any stray or homeless pets in our town in Ketchikan Ak.
Bless you all. I haven't had my own home for a long time, so I can't have pets, thank you for caring for them. ❤
As a cat person who takes care of a feral that was here before me and 3 more abandoned by my neighbors - thank you
LOVE YOUR COMMON SENSE AND RESPECT FOR OTHER LIVING CREATURES!!
I've known people that Want cats, but are not responsible for them. I like your thoughts on the subject. CHEERS.
Thanks for taking care of these kitties! They appreciate it, even when they don't show it. Peace.
Great job! Glad there are people like you around who are willing to take the time to help out and research the best possible solutions for stray cats.
"We're not cat people at all". Well, may many more non-cat people do and be like you! Heroes. Respect and gratitude to you.
I’ve TNR 40 cats 🐈 released and found 20 of them homes/barns 😻 thank you ❤️
Thanks for making sure they're safe from lousy people! That's a great house, you're good people.
Good people help those who can't speak for themselves, thank you 🐱
I think grandma like u very much! I can tell by the way she talks to u. she looks very good and relaxed. u did a great job thank u!
On behalf of feral grandma and her clan Thank You! Thank you for your patience, sharing, acceptance and love you give them. DIYferrent you are doing the right thing. Feral grandma could have left when y’all got there or y’all could have gotten rid of her. Instead this happened and I’m so happy for all of you.
Please don’t feed cats on cement. I worked with a rescue that said they hurt their teeth and sometimes even break them eating off of pavement. Nice house! ❤
You’re an amazing human! It’s wonderful that you guys educated yourselves.
Your 4 legged friends appreciate the great life you've given them. Thank you for the positive story.
I'm feeding 25 cats now, all due to irresponsible people. So far we we've had 19 fixed. Working on catching the last 6 who were abandoned by a neighbor that moved and left them!
What a wonderful job your doing. That is so kind of you, it’s nice to see their are awesome selfless people who care about these babies. God bless you🙏🏽
May God Bless you!
