    That's awesome! Thank you for sharing. I wish I'd watched this video before I spent $300 and a full weekend building a three story feral cat condo that took two of us strong guys to move into place. On the plus side, my feral cats do use it, especially in winter, and it protects them from the local coyotes, raccoons, hawks, great horned owls, cougars and bobcats. At least the bears ignore the cats. 🙂

    Dynamite!! Even insulated the edges of the foam board....Just perfect.
    I'd love to know where you get the bundles of pallet wood from. I'm from WA State & waiting for the weather to cooperate so we can build our little buddies more proper shelter.
    Right now they're in insulated bins with straw, under a PVC pipe & tarp "shelter" I rigged quickly. My SO is a finish carpenter so we can do better! Come summer they should be set. Thank you so much for filming your set up, great idea! : ) Hope the kitties are loving it .

    While they are obviously building extremely well by a very capable friendly carpenter (who obviously loves his wife), they don’t have easy access to the interior for adding straw or blankets or self-heating pads or just general maintenance cleaning for spiders, bees, etc. who all would love to move in too.
    They also don’t have rear emergency exits in case a cat is inside when a raccoon or snake or worse yet, a bear decides they want to come in too. Plus, w/o the emergency exits, the house seem like it would be too hot for the cats to comfortable use in warmer months.
    So, when you get a chance, pop an exit on the back and throw a couple of hinges on the tops so they can be unstacked and the top opened up and then you’ll be ready to mass produce and sell those puppies for big bucks!!

    • @SavinABuck45
      @SavinABuck45  2 роки тому

      Thank you I appreciate it. And I will consider the rear doors and lift up top would be a good idea on my next builds.

    • @joycestempa5647
      @joycestempa5647 2 роки тому +2

      Just staple an old piece of heavy canvas or piece of plastic tarp with a slit in the center of it over the exit and you’ll be good to go.
      Don’t do any kind of a ledge outside the exit. It needs to be a straight drop down for a smooth getaway and to prevent another animal from using it as a entrance. It’s more difficult to get into if there’s no foothold.
      Best of luck!

    We have some outside kitties we're looking to do something like this for. We just need one little house. My skills at making stuff out of wood like this are.... low. We have mostly hand tools and a few power tools. Unfortunately no real work bench yet. But we need to make something insulated like this for our Pacific Northwest weather. I was actually hoping to make a roof that had hinges so we could open it up and get to it to make some bedding and stuff inside. So, we'll see how it goes. Most of our wood is just from pallets with one pallet being much nicer thicker wood. Here is to hoping we can figure out what to do. But this gave me a few ideas. :)

  • @louise9973
    @louise9973 3 роки тому +10

    Very cool but cats can't jump to a step thats directly above, its impossible to jump out and up. When going down as well the entrances are lined up which is fine if you're on the lower box. The very bottom needs to be off the ground or insulated more as water and snow will get in over time even with the insulation. Just a thought. Good idea, but you need to think like a cat and understand their movements if you're gonna get the design right for these floofs.

      Yes, they just jump from house to house on the little platforms . Works out really well they like being up high so they can see everything.

      Hi , it's been a while since I. Built these but I beleive I built the frame from 1x2x8ft lumber making the frame 20 inch square frame with 1/4 inch plywood on the I side and 1/2 foam board sealed all cracks with spray foam and pallet lumber on the exterior that was 1/2 inch x 4 inches , hope this helps good luck on your build

    A Diy Cat House Designed with Great Care
    Last night , Ongi slipped out of Warmwinter 2021 winterized cat condo and walked back in the rain to her recently
    built humble house by her self-appointed forever protector. It was a bit of a long trip to reach there from the
    luxurious condo , which made her catch a cold. Walking around in the rain for over 3 hours must've been too much for
    an introvert cat with a a poor sense of direction and weak bones .
    Ongi had been deficent in nothing since she became the occupant of the modest house and it had never dawned on
    her that anything further would be offered to her to make it through this coming winter but the humble house
    tailor- made just for her , and the now feverish animal ( with her body temperature of 40 degrees Celsius) had been
    quite content with it, except her former owner had appeared out of nowhere and been prodding her for days into
    moving into the condo .
    " Ongi dear, " the original owner said. " Warmwinter WW Series has never disappointed any cat that has ever
    kept their residence at it over winter, knock on wood. Each and every one of them has been well fed , well bred so far.
    Trust me. Moreover, the CEO of Warmwinter is a huge advocate of GoGreen project .
    He even got rid of his car some 20 years ago- yes, you heard right, 20 years ago, can you believe that? - in an effor to
    reduce carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere , believing that it's a a step in the right direction ( a true
    pioneer ) , while one of his sons is a scientist who took part in designing Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2, the
    satellite, you know , which was designed to check the effect of natural climate patterns like El Nino and La Nina
    on CO2 concentration."
    The thought of making a wrong choice suddenly came home to the poor sick cat .
    A luxurious condo?, she thought. Reducing carbon dioxide? I am a mere cat! A diy house designed with great care
    was good enough. I shouldn't have risen to the bait.😎

      I just reach in with a small rake clean out the old bedding and my cats keep them pretty clean for the most part. Thanks for watching

    can the cat get enough air with a door shut.

    • @SavinABuck45
      @SavinABuck45  Рік тому

      Yes plenty of airspace and you could always put another door in the rear if live in warmer climates.
