purchased 2021 timecutter on October 20 2022 with myride. Once the fuel gets low around 1/3 of a tank unit shuts off! So I filled tank but now it fills like its not getting enough power when I engage the blades it fills like it wants to shut off. I'm getting black smoke coming out of muffler and I notice fuel in the air intake. Using unleaded fuel.
The first thing that I would make sure is that you are not overfilling the fuel tank. Black smokes can mean excess fuel and the tank vent runs back to the air filter housing as apart of clean emissions. This means that if the tank is over filled the fuel will go back to the air cleaner (which it sounds like it is in your case) and can cause poor performance from the engine. Only fill the machine up to the top of the fuel sight. As far as why the unit shuts off when it gets down to a 1/3 of a tank there is a multitude of things that could be causing that. If you are mechanically inclined you can try taking the fender off and looking at the gas tank to find a blockage of some sort or if that is not something you are comfortable with then I would suggest taking it to your local dealer before the spring season and having them take a look so you are ready to cut grass come spring time! Let me know if we can be anymore help!
It was a bent push rod! Took it to the shop and they checked spark plugs, those were good we had spark! Still had fuel in the air intake so he took apart the motor and found the bent push rod! The whole engine was trash! I'm glad I had 3 years warranty on the kohler engine! Everything will get replaced!!
Glad to hear that the dealer was able to get you taken care of! Sorry to hear that the engine broke down that quickly however, that's why there are warranties to cover rare instances like this one.
Hey mate, I've had mine for about 5 years now, just wondering, it's started to just click and wont turn over, Batt seems fine? I'm guessing the solenoid?
Hi, If you are hearing one solid "thud" noise then yes that is most likely the solenoid. The part number is 117-1197 and is usually around $40 at your local dealer
When a machine runs out of gas it can be very hard to get to restart. You may need the help of some starting fluid in order to get the unit started again. In order to use the starting fluid to start your unit you will need to remove the air filter and using small amounts sprat the starting fluid in the opening of the intake manifold. After minimally spraying fluid in the intake make sure there is not debris near engine area and then you can try to start the unit. Once it starts up make sure to reinstall your air filter and you should be good to go. Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.
Just what I needed. Thank you!!
Glad it helped!
It's the same on the 2013. Why change it if it works?

My lawn mower ran out of gas while mowing. Filled the tank and it never started again
