I live in Japan and teach English. Every few days I get a student named Yoshimi and I have to struggle not to ask her about the robots....
that kinda fucked up this song is about a girl dying of cancer
the robots are rouge cancer cells ..
@@KenMabie lighten up. It's actually funny
Honestly same
Ken Mabie - FIND ME ON BITCHUTE you’re a rogue cancer cell of UA-cam comments
@@KenMabie is it really? I never knew that. Can you post the source please?
This song came out when I was battling stage 3 breast cancer.
This song helped. The cancer wasnt going to win. My babies were only 9 months old and 3 years old.
Those robots didn't defeat me.
Just over more surgery all these years down the line, but life is great ❤️
Good for you ❤️
Not all heroes wear capes
Good to hear but did you take lots of vitamins and are you a black belt in karate
You're comment made me tear up, I'm a 34 year old man, but you reminded me of my ma with your comment...God bless you and I wish you the best in life.
I’m so glad to hear that :)). You raced for the prize if you know what I mean 💯
I love the fact that Yoshimi, with her vast powers and attendant responsibilities, is nonetheless a humble municipal employee.
And you don't get many of those - usually the power goes to their head.
Same. I’m so sick of polyester.
This is just like reality. There are notable people everywhere
Sure
Fun fact for y'all: Yoshimi is inspired by a real person, Yoshimi P-we, who is part of a band called OOIOO. The idea came to them when listening to her rather wild and experimental vocal style which they felt made her sound like she was fighting some kind of evil force. Look up the song "Ina" by OOIOO, and I think you'll hear what they mean :)
And before OOIOO she was the drummer for the Boredoms
Not 100% sure, but I think she might be the girl in the video. There aren't a ton of pics of the real Yoshimi on the web but there's definitely a resemblance. If nothing else, the person in the video was definitely chosen to look like her.
@@Felice_EnellenYoshimi also provides screaming on Yoshimi Pt.2
Wow thank you! Sometimes people actually have something to say in the comments besides "great song!" Or "I listened to this a lot when I was going to kill myself but then I didnt"
@@jonfellman7346 And also Free Kitten.
I found this song when I was at the deepest moment in my life. I hated my life so much; and it's sad because I am so love. I wanted to be brave like Yoshimi. It's been almost 5 years and still fighting; I won't let those robots defeat me.
Hope you are ok Lulu 💖
I hope you’ve defeated them and/or are still standing. Signed, a fellow warrior. ❤️😢✊️❤️
Hang in there
Don’t let those robots defeat you, i believe you!
Right on
My Mom is fighting cancer, doctors, and machines. She's taking lots of vitamins and disciplining her body. This song makes me think of her. :(
Wow. I'll be praying for her. ❤❤❤
💞
I don’t know if it’s any consolation or advice but I saw them in concert last night. Before the final chorus they stopped and Wayne says something along the lines of “this song isn’t just about an Asian girl that fights robots. It’s about that friend or family member that has a task you know is impossible ahead of them. They won’t know that it is. But they are so strong and as their friend, you never tell them the task is impossible”
How is she doing?
Many prayers and wishes for her from me
. my mum was suffering from a brain cancer ,and i would sing this sometimes, and now this song always aways brings floods of tears with it each and every time i hear it.........
And as for yoshimi?........ well she never did win .
so nite nite mum .theirs no more robots, pain and tears any any
more
I love and think about you each and every sigle day
god bless
RIP
your loving son
allan
Stay strong Allan
You made me cry :c
Rainblaze I know the journey, lost my Mum in September to cancer, originally lungs and it spread so fast to her brain and spine. A hospice nurse explained when cancer attacks one organ it hits two other almost simultaneously (lung, brain & spine). Keep pushing!
@Mr. Pretty Penis appreciate you brother!
Sendin love and courage!
THE AMOUNT OF TIMES THIS SONG PLAYED ON SKATE SESSIONS, ROAD TRIPS, HOUSE PARTIES AND HANG OUTS IS UNCOUNTABLE. LOVE THIS SONG
It's good, it's very good.
I have no idea why, but this song makes me feel depressed, but I love it.
I believe it's in a minor key, so maybe it's that... there's like a melancholic subtext to the harmony of the song. I love it too :)
Me too
It's about Cancer. Cancer can often be a bleak and depressing theme.
Yeah once you realize what it's about it's sad as fuck. To me it's about the process you go through when your losing someone you love to cancer or anything like that. The childlike imagery makes me think of when I was a kid and my dad died. I spent years trying to figure it out and naturally it felt like I had to have something or someone to blame. Now I blame 3 packs of kool a day.
Re same amiga
My psychology teacher recommended this band to me, he thought id like them. He played this song and i fell in love with them, listened to this entire album and safe to say im a fan! Thank you Mr. S! This song makes me very happy
W teacher
Your prof is my kinda dude
My middle school principal and I both loved this band. That was our one thing in common
Wow I just came back after 11 years and I’m crying. So many incredible memories. They used to be my favorite but I lost myself for a little while there. Good to be back
Phew, for a minute there, I lost myself
This song has probably saved my life!
It's on my daily playlist and everytime the line about "so shes taking lots of vitamins" plays I think crap I haven't taken mine yet! 🤣
Its the same for me here. On top of also being informed about Bio Digital Social Programming, this song speaks so much truth.
I’ve always ♥️ this song well this album for tht matter. ESP spoonful weighs a ton
Got this song stuck for a couple of weeks... I found it typing "Sashimi song"
UA-cam has been through a lot 😂
LOL... Mmmmmm, sashimi... 😋
I searched flamingo song lmao
First time I heard this, a counselor was singing it a capella at a summer camp. Great song.
Cool ass counselor
What was it nature's classroom
Oh my god, just discovered this song, how possible this song has 20 years? I can't stop listening to it.
This always reminds me of the good times, wherever they went.
unCANny
I was listening to this song and burst into tears out of the blue. I nearly lost a sibling to cancer many years ago but she was brave and bounced back and is with us today. Lost others unfortunately, including a good friend.
Ok, no one's replied to you but, I see so many comments about cancer here. Is this song actually about cancer? Or am i missing something
i dont know why people think this song is so bad!
i love it. its a beatiful song and shouldn't be so looked down upon.
its a metaphore for his friend who was dying of cancer and was doing everthing she could to stop it, never giving up. she was really funny and kind. this is a beutiful song and deserves more popularity.
Write. I had no idea either. One of their best songs, too
I had no idea it was about that, thinking it was more of a sci-fi themed song about a highly skilled Japanese woman fighting nasty robots in the distant future. I still cheer on Yoshimi in my heart.
It's a beautiful song, one which many meanings can be derived from. It is, however, important to note that it's the on-stage musical adaptation that's about a woman struggling with cancer. Wayne Coyne / Flaming Lips have never confirmed such.
I know.
I do, I know.
P.s. this isnt, and has never been looked down on..that I know of? I've never met anyone to rag on this. The Lips, in general, ain't everyone's cuppa tea, but fuggit.
Whole album is a class.
@@tylersims6937 agreed
Man this is the family band. The band mom and dad always took me to. Saw them 8 plus times by the time I was 13. Now 24 and it really does represent the good times.
This song and album is a total jam. Teaching my 4 year old niece about Yoshimi. Kids love the song.
Wow. This song has been faintly heard from the depths of my memories of a song I heard at a music festival for over 10 years now.. I just found the song just now. 🎉🎉🎉❤
Wayne Coyne is my favorite kind of weird.
he means he's weird.
Did you think about it and figure it out? If not, just remember you don't know why he's weird or why that's good. It'll come to you one day.
+Katherine J. Legry weird means weird you fucking idiot. it can be explained with different words but it only means one thing.
+Katherine J. Legry calm the fuck down. half the stuff you just talked about has nothing to do with what I said and in no way was I trying to insult any women. you just proved you are an idiot by saying that me calling you an idiot was an insult to you and other women.😎
#SorryNotSorry for posting it twice.
He's right, this is about a little girl fighting cancer.
Waynes daughter
The doctor explained the cancer as tiny robots
She did not defeat them sadly
He wrote this in her hospital room
He was still at long johns silver working at this time in his life
@@brandonshaw7619 isn't yoshimi the drummer for boredoms lol the Japanese noise band I think TFL worked with them that's why
@@brandonshaw7619 he had his 1st child in 2019 though so that's just an impossible rumour.
For real? I was told it was about a video game?
The title character is inspired by Boredoms/OOIOO member Yoshimi P-We, following a comment in the Flaming Lips studio that her machine-sound abstract singing sounds like she is battling monsters-Coyne added 'pink'.[2] P-We also performs on the album. Some listeners consider Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots to be a concept album; however, the story is debated, as it is only directly apparent in the first four tracks. Despite the story-type title and science fiction themes, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne has made it clear that Yoshimi is not intended to be a concept album.[3]
This was filmed at the Samurai in OKC. My cousin is in the video somewhere.
I don't know why exactly but this album has songs that make me cry and not even Radioed or The Beatles can do that. Flaming Lips wrote from such a deep place on this record.
man radioed is such a good band, though its a shame Ed had to eat thom, phil, colin and johnny to establish his own band
Only other song that makes me cry is Don't Give Up by Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush
Listen to this song recently makes me realise we all could be Yoshimi sometimes in our lives.....facing lots of tough times, many ups and downs
a split second fever dream one beautiful summer night in the streets of Tokyo...
stop trying to sound smart, you just end up sounding stupid.

+Clorox BBleach gladly
eyoa Maybe check when I commented you fucking idiot.
careful not to cut yourself on that edge
I love when it says "Those evil natured robots"... and then there is a Metal Mickey style voice hahaha Great song
i lost my foot in a skateboarding accident severla years ago. Every night I would sing this song to myself and eventually it grew back. This song always aways brings floods of tears with it each and every time i hear it. Namaste.
You had me in the first half. Not gonna lie.
when i tell you i cackled
funniest thing I have read in a while.
Ok now this is a good comment
someone please explain
My mother's name is Yoshimi.. ♥
That's cute.

sleepyfacedangel ♥ That's great! :D I'm assuming you're Japanese? Either way, I really like the name. Take care.
🌸◠‿◠)/ 💗Half Japanese... Now my mother's ringtone is Percy Faith's "Theme from a Summer Place". LOL
I used to go to Flaming Lips shows back in the late 80's early 90's. saw them in some shithole in Noble, OK with everybody stuffed into a really small room sweating like crazy and it was amazing, they used to end some of their shows with a cover of the Bee Gee's Every Christian lion Hearted Man that rocked. stil have a couple of Salisbury's shirts from the day cool to see them go so far
This was a time in life....this whole era. Good times. Good Shows.
No matter the years...the lyrics just flow past my lips like the day I first heard it. Love this song. It's the feel I guess... ♥️♥️
I keep watching this video just to see the hug at the end. It's a moment of pure joy which I can experience whenever I want. The flaming lips are so much better than reality it's not even a competition.
I grew up listening to this with my mom💕 never not gonna think of her when I hear this song.
same for me with my dad 😊
this album is only 4 years old. how have you grown up listening to it? are you 15 or something?
Actually the album is 14 years old....
+Joao Gomes How did he messed that up so bad lol?

Mark Ruffalo, is that you?
The hulk would make quick work of those evil-natured robots...
Rocío Cruz eerie
We know who's going to play him in a movie. ;-)
No it's Paul Walker
I was thinking more Sam Rockwell-ish
This song (and album) bring back such great memories!
this makes me realize that I'm probably going to be alone for the rest of my life
You’ve got me baby. That’s all you need. 🤝
Based
You're never alone, maybe just not next to someone right now.
2020... Oh the irony of this statement. Been in solitary isolation since March in Kobe, Japan (It's December) 😳. Thank the gods for the Flaming Lips... (and Prince!)
Arent we All?
Calling Wayne a "remarkable artist" would not do his genius justice! I was a deejay in Missouri on KOPN in the early 80's and the Lips were way ahead of their time...
wow this takes me back. Randomly came across on a friends spotify list. Use to love this song, but somehow was lost and haven't listened to it in 20 years. So glad I found it. Takes me back to middle school listening to this song in my bedroom. Crazy how music can do that
Fueling my week with lots of Flaming Lips.
Oh my god, this song takes me back. I had a 6th grade teacher who would play this song and other chill songs all the time during testing and writing assignments.
I was good friends growing up with Wayne's nephew and went to middle school and high school with him. His family is totally chill and even got to meet Wayne once (before I was initiated)
I first heard this song on Pandora and was unable to find it for a while so I kept listening to the same station looking for it over and over again when I finally did I was happy and satisfied this is a great song the writer singer of the band worthy of Legends
Cortana thinks this song is a must-have for when you're battling pink robots.
+N Studios I use other songs when I'm battling pink robots...Strangely I Do use this song sometimes when I battle red ones.
+AnarchyDragon6 Dude, you have to try battling the pink ones to this song, for the red ones just use your watermelon gun.
Larry Lewinsohn lol
This album came out the day I was born :)
So many memories to this song. Woke up with the chorus in my head ❤
Saw them live 3 days ago and fuck, BLEW MY MIND!!! BEST CONCERT EVER !
Such beautiful voice and great melody and fantastic sound effects!!Awesome!!

Solid melody, catchy lyrics, all in all: a keeper.
Oh, Yoshimi
Ever since I heard this as a small child it's played in my head every now and then :) great song
Thanks for sharing, that’s sweet

I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.
Ha...very clever sir. Wonder how many others will understand.
+Will Linden Hail Ants
i remember this but i forgot what it was from lmao
Personally I was referencing the Simpsons episode "Deep Space Homer"
well the album is about his dad and fighting cancer so okay....
Love this song guys. from an auld hippy across the pond.
Her name is Yoshimi
She's a black belt in karate
Working for the city
She has to discipline her body
'Cause she knows that it's demanding
To defeat those evil machines
I know she can beat them
Oh Yoshimi they don't believe me
But you won't let those robots eat me
Yoshimi they don't believe me
But you won't let those robots defeat me
Those evil-natured robots
They're programmed to destroy us
She's gotta be strong to fight them
So she's taking lots of vitamins
'Cause she knows that it'd be tragic
If those evil robots win
I know she can beat them
Oh Yoshimi they don't believe me
But you won't let those robots defeat me
Yoshimi they don't believe me
But you won't let those robots eat me
Yoshimi
'Cause she knows that it'd be tragic
If those evil robots win
I know she can beat them
Oh Yoshimi they don't believe me
But you won't let those robots defeat me
Yoshimi they don't believe me
But you won't let those robots eat me
Yoshimi they don't believe me
But you won't let those robots defeat me
Yoshimi they don't believe me
But you won't let those robots eat

Jack Merlot Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Not really. It's just copy/paste from some page on Google.:))
hi
Maria Diaz thank you!!!! 😉
come on copy and paste from a lyric website lol
I saw them yesterday in live, great band.
When I moved to OK a friend showed me them and said they were from OKC, well while living there I got heavy into drugs and listening to this song helped while I was becoming this drug addict, I'm so glad to be sober for 3 months that was the darkest hole I think I'll ever be in
Saw these guys play in a smaller venue, as probably many others here have. And that may be the coolest concert i've been to, and I've been to quite a few.
This one's my favorite! Love it so much.
Something grab me and made me listened to this song when it came out, never heard of the band prior listening to this song. None of my friends knew about the band. But somehow the song got to me. Not a clue of how, when, why but I do have a very specific relationship with this song and the albums...ahh to be young and discovering alot about life. The album was the soundtrack for me back then.
Yoshimi is my favorite drummer of all time. Such a badass
I could go with the association machine or my fav would be. Jennifer walking out of the spokane library after work throwing Karate chops with sound affects a smile and a walk that still melts my heart everytime i see it. Love you Jennifer.
Awesome tune!! I was jammin on RB3 and thought it was just a killer groove.I didnt know it was about a Girl with Cancer. Now I love it even more.CannaPower!!
Definitely my favorite Flaming Lips album. Not a particularly popular opinion, but.. I don't care.

I agree completely.
