Kuwabara wasn’t lying about being their anchor. His lightheartedness brings a bit of comedy that keeps his team at ease in trying situations, and he’s their trump card. No matter how beaten he is he’s always stepping up and someway somehow always managing to clutch out a win for his boys.

Think of it his way: to Hiei, being a demon is about being cunning, bloodthirsty, and ruthless, being willing to do anything to get what you want. That's the way he is, and he's proud of it, but that's not how Yukina is. Hiei wouldn't want somebody like that to date his sister, and that's also why he doesn't want to tell Yukina who he is. Kuwabara's the opposite: oafish, overly sentimental, but compassionate. That's why they don't get along, but that's also why Kuwabara's the best person to date Yukina.

Risho truly became scared when Kuwabara was willing to sacrifice himself so his team can move forward in the next round. Kuwabara truly had the heart out of the team. Genkai said it best: "You have a gentle heart..use it😊"

Say whut you want about kuwabara but the man has charisma and power of love on his side all it takes is seeing his "lady friend" yukina and he's viable to take on damn near anything not so different from his rival yusuke with keiko
Weakest, yes? Human? Definitely. But strongest member in terms of grit, strength, determination, willpower, and most importantly, HEART? ABSOLUTELY, Man!
Rounds 2 and 3 are probably my favorite ones of the Dark Tournament. The reason is that every member gets a chance to shine. Yusuke beats Ichigaki, Bakken, and Jin; Hiei, with Kurama’s help, kills M4, destroys M6; and beats up M5 enough to find the master of the brainwashed team; Kurama beats Gama and Touya consecutively with 2 big handicaps; Genkai FINALLY unveils her spirit wave technique to defeat and free Ichigaki’s tests subjects; and Kuwabara manages to win round 3 for his team when they were all taken out of the tournament by Butajiri’s rulings (Yusuke being disqualified by a technicality, Kurama being forced to stay in the ring against Bakken whilst unconscious because of an overly literal application of the rules, and Hiei and Genkai being imprisoned by Ruka the entire match) despite spending the entire match with no spirit energy (in the manga, the fight ends once Kuwabara bitch slaps Risho out of the ring so Kuwabara using his sword and Risho growing a second layer of armor here is filler). It’s a great moment because most of the tournament Kuwabara gets utterly humiliated by his moments using dirty tactics to beat him but without him here, the team would have lost and been killed afterwards. It was a true underdog match and I loved every second of it.
so just like in real life when the dude gets extra hyped cause the girl he likes showed up and he trying to impress, but I'm sure we all wished that getting extra hyped also meant that every crushed bone in your body is magically healed, it'll save a lot of money from going to the hospital.
