It hasn’t been too long since I was looking into K&L 2. I played it at release and I remember absolutely loving the art style. Thank you for making a video about this game.
Something else this game does interestingly is it's soundtrack. The pop songs are original and authentically composed chinese tracks, and those ones can't be heard in-game unless you are passing by a radio throughout the stores or inside people's homes, again showing the amount that went into atmosphere. And some tracks are very easy listening and have a soothing tone, which makes the horrific and constantly chaotic nature of this game even more fascinating. I always love to see dog days getting discussed. What a crazy but interesting game to be produced
I've been waiting for you to make a video on Kane & Lynch 2 since I first discovered you, this was my second favorite game I played last year right beneath Death Stranding. Thank you for sharing the word of Kane & Lynch 2. Such an excellent game.
I love these 2 games so much, I was really attached to the story growing up. I feel like 1 was Kane's story about his family and 2 was Lynch's over his love for his girlfriend. Also I'm not sure if anyone answered you at 3:00 but if you're talking the reflections on Kane's body, that's called Specular Reflection Mapping. It's essentially a texture/mipmap that's placed over the true texture to allow reflections based on the current surrounding lighting. In unreal engine which I believe this game is made in, or a derivative of the IO engine, this graphical setting can be turned up and down at will. It's what you see when it rains on the road in GTA V for example.
I'm pretty sure he actually means an effect that's most noticeable when you actually play the game in darker areas with a neon sign. The 'Addbas' logo in that scene, for instance, will appear inverted, transparent and smaller on the screen, as if it were a reflection. If you look up some gameplay on UA-cam you might be able to catch it. I'm pretty sure it's just supposed to simulate glare or a dirty lens, and I think it's a pretty cool effect at that.
Im playing K&L2, once again, now on my Steam Deck. This is THE underrated game of the generation. It's the only game with the documentary style camera. Why for the love of Pete did no one else follow this brilliant style? It was the best idea since duel wielding.
I played this game a couple months back. After finishing it all I could think "was that it?" As someone who typically looks too deep into shitposts I loved this.
This is exactly why I occasionally mention this game in conversations about hidden gems; it’s not fun, but it’s an experience. Just like early Ayer films like Harsh Times and End of Watch, and even Sandler’s Hidden Gems. Having a video game that fits this type of entertainment is a special experience; because if it’s not played for fun, then it’s played as art.
nice to finally see a somewhat positive review of this gem. it's seen as just another 00's cover-shooter but I think it's mechanically better than the rest
Glad to see someone appreciating this game. It really is the most desperate, sweat-fuelled hangover of an experience I've ever played. It's not nice. It doesn't want to be. And that's ok. I really wish they'd make a third. Great vid!
Despite how shit the weapon accuracy was, this game STILL has better gunplay than HITMAN 2 and 3. Both games have Agent 47 handling guns like a limp wristed toddler and practically smacking himself in the face with the recoil, while Kane and Lynch actually handle guns like men.
@@wickerhazbrownsauce8564 Something being lo-fi is not an opinion. It is a fact. And if you mean the Marble Hornets UA-cam series, that is not a visual style. It is a name for a series filmed with hand held cameras and bad compression. Not lo-fi, just low quality.
@@wickerhazbrownsauce8564 Worked up? When? I was merely explaining you something you didn't seem to understand. If you consider a normal discussion as being worked up over something, I don't even dare to even think how bad problems you have understanding other people around you.
Bought this when it launched. It's by no means good and the enemies are spongey af. It does have a completely original style that I'd love to see expanded on though. The shootouts are the closest to Heat I've ever heard too which is a huge plus. Still have my physical copy because I think it'll be one of those you can't find anywhere soon
Fun fact: the characters ending is hidden in Hitman absolution, Lynch is in the bar outisde of Hope and is part of the bar brawl and kane is actaully in Hope in one of the cells inder the courthouse writing his last letter to his daughter. Also if you trigger the nuke easter egg later in the game a cutscene outside of the explosion Lynch is shown free, so the hidden story in that Kane busted Lynch out of prison and ran off.
Game is definitely not that bad! In fact, I just realized that arcade mode is basically Fragile Alliance from the multiplayer only with bots and I absolutely love it ! Can't stop playing those heists ! Story is fun too only its too short. Its often for a 1 buck during sales on Steam and for that price its an absolute steal! And btw if you don't like shaky camera or visual effects, you can both turn it off in the settings. Definitely give this a try ! I wish they made third game one day :-´(
I do wish the guns did a bit more damage and the cover system was more consistent. The airplane final level was hell. Those things aside, gorgeously ugly and bold work of art.
I just like how raw and unpredictable it is. It’s really like playing through a couple of live leak videos. Especially with “that” shocking scene, which really caught me by surprise. I really hope we get a continuation of this series!
Shout out to errant signal, he's been making similar types of videos for the past 10 years and is really good at it but somehow has half as many subs as leadhead (not that she doesn't deserve them just that he definitely does)
The only reason this game got bad reviews is because the weapons are less accurate, which is something that modern FPS players would get totally phased by (coz they're damn babies). Out of all the FPS's THIS is the one that stands out awesome atmosphere and level design.
now that I think about it..this is basically hardcore grindhouse, add these same camera effects to the last of us 2 and that game might suddenly make sense lmao. Anyone know how to recreate the screen effects? might even make it a meme.
I played this again with my friend I completed it originally with and we had a laugh especially when the draw distance breaks and an apartment complex keeps disappearing and enemies are walking on air 👌
K&L 2 is by far the most best Art Directed Video Game of the decades. Cinema Verite style, lens flare, lens dirt, Hong Kong, HEAT style. 2010 when they review its bad because everybody in the verge of “uuh new tech era the millenium”. It made me feel more uncomfortable than most extremely gory over the top games (Outlast *cough), saying it looked like a Liveleak video that we shouldn’t be watching was the perfect summation.

I recently got this game for 3 bucks on Xbox. And these reasons are exactly why I love this game. The gunplay is meh. But the realism makes it phenomenal
Gameplay was shit but the 240p Liveleak Aesthetic was the SHIT I even like the Reality TV-esque pixel censorship effect when you get a headshot at point blank, it really feels like some dude is running around with a $20 camcorder recording Kane and Lynch as they slaughter everyone

I feel that Dog Days did two things to mechanically reinforce its theme and style. The first is weapon inaccuracy, basically all of the guns are super inaccurate even in the best-case scenario.
I love K&L 2, it's so raw and like you say ugly, it gives it this grungy level of realism, and you constantly feel like you're improvising.
Im playing K&L2, once again, now on my Steam Deck. This is THE underrated game of the generation. It's the only game with the documentary style camera. Why for the love of Pete did no one else follow this brilliant style? It was the best idea since duel wielding.
pyro shouted out this video swag
I love found footage films, and I can appreciate the dedication to the attempt in a game, but just watching the footage is giving me motion sickness.
Now i finally know what gordon freeman's favorite game looks like
I played this game a couple months back. After finishing it all I could think "was that it?"
As someone who typically looks too deep into shitposts I loved this.
I played it when it first came out and was so stuck (and still am) between “Wow I like this game.” and “Wow, this game is shitty.”
Glad to see someone appreciating this game. It really is the most desperate, sweat-fuelled hangover of an experience I've ever played. It's not nice. It doesn't want to be. And that's ok. I really wish they'd make a third. Great vid!
yeah there is no other that match its grittiness, maybe one i absolutely "hate" to play.
Despite how shit the weapon accuracy was, this game STILL has better gunplay than HITMAN 2 and 3. Both games have Agent 47 handling guns like a limp wristed toddler and practically smacking himself in the face with the recoil, while Kane and Lynch actually handle guns like men.
Love to see I'm not alone liking this game and especially loving it's lofi graphical styling.
It feels more Marble Hornets then Lo-fi to me.
@@anteshell Wow, you got a bit worked up over the comment, Huh?
@@wickerhazbrownsauce8564 Worked up? When? I was merely explaining you something you didn't seem to understand. If you consider a normal discussion as being worked up over something, I don't even dare to even think how bad problems you have understanding other people around you.
This game is amazing , it feels like some kind of raw illegal footage, with that vhs crappy cams and distorted sounds
This game and manhunt tries to show you the uglyness of the world
Most underrated game ever. What a great soundtrack too!
"Kane & Lynch 2" is a "Journey" from the world of ugly games
After I spent a month in China, I even loved this game more than before :D That was a 4D experience.
i was binge watching vifeos about this game and you drop one of these bad boys, thanks Lead yar the best
The design direction looks ahead of its time, it should be made into an art game today instead of a generic shooter
If you have a PC, wait for a sale. It goes on sale pretty often with the Square Enix sale. Only $1!
I just like how raw and unpredictable it is. It’s really like playing through a couple of live leak videos.
Especially with “that” shocking scene, which really caught me by surprise. I really hope we get a continuation of this series!
>Infamous shows up on the chest-high walls list
clearly, they never actually played it
Shout out to errant signal, he's been making similar types of videos for the past 10 years and is really good at it but somehow has half as many subs as leadhead (not that she doesn't deserve them just that he definitely does)
Nice, I’ll have to check out her channel. I dig leadheads stuff.
Ikr,his videos are great
Leadhead is a she?
@@harambae7014 yes
@@harambae7014 yes,she recently transitioned
I love this game. Unironically. It's underappreciated.
Everyone maintain eye contact with Mr Leadhead while slowly backing out of the room
The only reason this game got bad reviews is because the weapons are less accurate, which is something that modern FPS players would get totally phased by (coz they're damn babies). Out of all the FPS's THIS is the one that stands out awesome atmosphere and level design.
Uhh, the game got bad reviews because its overall crap.
Repetitive gameplay, no variety, and the level design is atrocious.
Your channel is amazing bro, keep up the good content !
I still love this game.. and I'm still annoyed at rockstar for copying lynch and making a more generic version "Trevor".
Rockstar made James earl Cash long before Kane and Lynch even existed.
now that I think about it..this is basically hardcore grindhouse, add these same camera effects to the last of us 2 and that game might suddenly make sense lmao. Anyone know how to recreate the screen effects? might even make it a meme.
I still remember the cemetery scene from the first game. Shovel and all.
I played this again with my friend I completed it originally with and we had a laugh especially when the draw distance breaks and an apartment complex keeps disappearing and enemies are walking on air 👌
I remember laughing uncontrollably when I died in the helicopter and the camera man fell out. 😂
K&L 2 is by far the most best Art Directed Video Game of the decades. Cinema Verite style, lens flare, lens dirt, Hong Kong, HEAT style. 2010 when they review its bad because everybody in the verge of “uuh new tech era the millenium”. K&L 2 is a tech triumph for me because the realistic gritty-ness that wrap the digital 3D of it.
K&L2 is on my list of games to replay every year along with Sleeping Dogs, GTA 4, Mafia 3, Batman Arkham series, and Life is Strange.
That's a lot of games, you either got plenty of free time on your hands, or you go full speedrun
@@YOEL_44 a bit of both. I'm a full-time student, but I work quick and do well. Work hard, play hard.
@@bbg830 I postponed my driving license over 2 years just because I was studying, in fact, I'm still on it.
The only games that I played more than once are NFS Carbon Own the city, The Stanley Parable and Watch Dogs, just because I had problems with saves and liked the idea of having a full playthrought of mine saved somewhere
One of the most ugliest games I've ever played, up there with Max Payne 3.
A couple weeks ago, I thought of what a disgusting and disturbing place looks like. I hadn't seen something that made me want to throw up because of how deplorable it looked and was. So I started to make places that made me disgusted, what human scum would live in, and I find this atmosphere so interesting. I've been around it all my life and just from seeing clips from Kane and Lynch 2, I can tell they knew how to do just that.
I've played it with a friend a couple times. It was an amazing experience, we had tons of fun both times.
I’ve been looking everywhere for a person who doesn’t hate this game, and yea in all honesty the game is an extremely generic 3rd person cover based shooter, but the aesthetic and art style made me love it, it felt so visceral, so gritty, ugly, dirty. It made me feel more uncomfortable than most extremely gory over the top games (Outlast *cough), saying it looked like a Liveleak video that we shouldn’t be watching was the perfect summation.
Kane & Lynch 2 is one fucked up ride and I loved every minute of it. The lofi artstyle and typical 90s crime action movie setting suits it so well and it's a blast in coop
3:00 The effect is called "Anamorphoc Glare" or "Ghosts".
thanks
I recently got this game for 3 bucks on Xbox. And these reasons are exactly why I love this game. The gunplay is meh. But the realism makes it phenomenal
Gameplay was shit but the 240p Liveleak Aesthetic was the SHIT
I even like the Reality TV-esque pixel censorship effect when you get a headshot at point blank, it really feels like some dude is running around with a $20 camcorder recording Kane and Lynch as they slaughter everyone
You referring to yourself with she at 1:38 actually just made me smile and gave me a warm feeling. I've been trans questioning / sure but with a lot of self doubt for half a year now and have discovered you through trans reddit communities not long ago, but yeah... this made me feel hopeful so 👍
You will never be a woman. 😂
I only know it from HLVRAI, got called out in that intro
I actually still have fond memories of the multiplayer that I used to frequent with a few buddies, specifically “undercover cop” and “fragile alliance” used to be intense
Played it when it first came out. I was so intrigued with how it felt like you said. Gotta play it to appreciate it.
A game that doesn't take place in Le Head
Dog Days is a piece of shit that actually isn’t, whilst actual pieces of shit like Call of Duty get yearly releases. Bizarre world we live in.
I thought the Multiplayer Cops and Robbers wherein the Robbers can choose to betray each other for more loot was an amazing concept never used again sadly
Kane & Lynch 2? You mean Death Grips the video game?
This game sucked so much, yet its style made me finish it three times over the last few years and I loved it every time
if so then this game is not suck
god that footage at the end was raw as hell
I got this game at launch and me and a friend sat down to play and ended doing a 2 player run through. At the end of that 4 hours we were shell shocked. The most intense experience I've ever had with a game
Bruh, Kane and Lynch has some of the most ambitious Multiplayer design Ive seen in the entirety of the 2000s
i played it when it came out, the scene where youre naked and all cut up is still etched in my head
