I get what he's saying, but it was about as intense & competitive a game can be without an actual title on the line.

I agree. My opinion is Whitlock is often sharing my opinion and many times helping me form a similar one. Wiley doesnt do that for me. I often disagree with his logic and place of reason for most topics. Whitlock is the quiet GOAT of these types of debate shows.

They played the way they played growing up...we all played 21 and you know how that ended? Sometimes with a free throw...it didn't take away from the excitement at all. Ppl will complain about everything

I like the one on one idea if you get fouled in the 4th quarter. You can’t let them just foul over and over. Or instead of 2fts, maybe just 1 3pt attempt for 1 or 2 points.

Had to read what these new rules are. Didn't watch the game. But I've seen when the all star game was a good game and fun to watch, and when it started to go way down hill.
They didn't fix the all star game because what was wrong with the all star game were the players themselves. Back in the day that Whitlock was referring to, the players knew how to as Michael Jordan used to put it, plug into each other. It was soon after the days of Magic and Isaiah and Michael that the game devolved into isolation, dribble happy play, obsession with dunks or just taking threes. They used to play defense. And they used to improvise on offense like a jam session of musicians improvising. It was a showcase of how the best of the best can free themselves and put on a display of how the game can be played. Like how music can by played when a musician doesn't worry about sticking to the sheet music.
And that's what's missing from a lot of teams for a while, not just the all star game. The knowledge of the game on the level that you can get together and within a short time frame of a game develop a synchronicity with each other. And it's reflected, and has been for a long time, in how teams play that have the all stars on their normal league team. I'm talking the James Hardens and the LeBrons. Have everything run to the liking of the stars, but the team never develops a good flow because the offense is mostly standing around watching the star of the team do his thing.
The all star game used to flow like the Warriors flowed together when they set the record for wins. And they played defense. They didn't let another player score.
It's all good until someone gets injured. It was amazing. It if LeBron pulled his groin again at the end ...would we be talking about how cool the game was?

Have the target score but play win by 3 from the target score. You gotta bring back the blacktop style game. I’d go a step farther and say once you hit the target score no more free throws, it’s just ball up top. That would help take the game out of the refs hands a little more

@King Similien The game of 21 is played like that in most pick ups . You can't end the game at the line .
@King Similien and in NBA Ballers you had to win by 3 In 21 as well, if the game is close enough I believe. Its a rule that's used often.
Only time I see the new format not working is if a team is up 20 plus and we’ve seen that before.

Because it's not a real game. They played a little harder than usual this year but incase you didn't watch the 4th Team Giannis blew a lead and lost as expected by literally everyone.
If they were playing at 100% start to finish they would get embarrassed. No one who knows basketball would disagree. They simply wouldn't be able to match up with LeBron's team.

@@metalpharaoh3025 I watched the highlights. I didn't want to waste my time again. The NBA has gotten so watered down and weak, I don't watch much of it anymore. The players are extremely soft nowadays!! Too many threes, not much defense, no more true big men! Three quarters of anything goes and then try to play defense the last quarter, no thank you!! Same with the weak dunk contest!! Jumping over people and in between the legs, that's all you got, c'mon man!! Tell me where I'm wrong!? I'm not hating, it's just sad that's where the game has gone!
