I'm not sure if a sim will autonomously eat the cake from the cow plant. It takes two times for a sim to be eaten before the cow plant will kill them (so, I believe that the next time the cow plant presents the cake it'll be lights out for whoever eats it). The cow plant gets hungry every 12 hours so it about 12 hours the cow plant should be ready to present the cake again.
