Nice review, thanks. The Stainless color looked awesome.
It's my birthday, thought I might get lucky. Congratulations Frankie hope it put a smile on your face. Thank you for your channel
Thanks again for doing another in-depth video on our paints Robert!
We are currently looking at alternative pigments to replace the larger flakes of Red Gold and Brass (both of which are Aluminium type pigments which is what gives them a decent shine).
Missing from the ones you've tested are Gold, Pale Gold and Light Gold from the Premium range, and Zinc, Platinum, Obsidian and Dark Copper from the Advance range. Silver and Gunmetal in the Advance range are the same as the ones in the Premium airbrush ready range.
Looking forward to the next videos you do!
Can we work something out so I can get the rest of the metallic paints you mentioned? I'd like to test the rest of them
@@barbatosrex9473 sure! I have your address still, so I will send you some samples to test
@@thescalemodellerssupply Thank you my friend
Great review. I’ll be ordering some of these tomorrow. Your reviews are among the most informative. Keep up the great work.
Dude, great video, i love your work and how the videos are structured and paced. Top quality. Also loved the bit where you ripped the paint right off the spoon, you were so confident going in then, BAM
Congratulations Frankie, the sms line looks great and they seem to spray good
Thanks Rex, this was a great demo of the paints. Gratz to Frankie on his win.
Nice test and there's some real nice ones in there. That red gold would be great for doing a candy apple red paint job and that large flake would real make it pop. I'm looking forward to seeing their shifts, because I haven't been that impressed with the color of the different brands I've been using.
that was a kool line up!! im excited for the perl essence!! congrats Frankie...hope that brush serves you well buddy:)
Some good looking metal colors. I liked the super silver and stainless. Nice polished metal look.
Those look like awesome paints. Thanks for the review.
Congrats Franky.. Rex another awesome review. I'm going to give these paints a go.
Congratulations, Frankie! Good deal!
Thanks! Really cool paints!
When you do the SMS Flourescent paints can put the sample under a black light would like to see how they glow. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for your review on these paints.
I noticed that compared to other metallics like Mr. Color. Alclad, Tamiya, etc the flakes in some of these paints are a lot bigger. Using a .5 airbrush seems to prevent the clogging and they work very nice.
gratz to the winner! let us know how it works out!
Thanks for the great videos you put out. They have helped me in deciding what to get and what not to get!! I was wondering if you have ever did a test on the Splash paints? They have specific colors for specific car brands and I am wondering if they are worth the price or not. Thanks!
Congratulations buddy that looks a good airbrush and them paints look incredible and I’m looking at all the range now
Great review as always, congratulations to Frankie! :)
Congratulations Frankie!
Another awesome review and I really liked that Inca Gold! :D
Congratulations Frankie
Congrats on the win!, great video as always 👍
That gun-metall looks awsome for rims at the modelcars. Nice sinister colour. The rest also nice colours.
Another great video. I got a batch of like 400 spoons from amazon and they won't even take pain unless I sand them so they aren't shiny anymore. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with recycling plastic. Looking forward to the SMS paints being easier to get ahold of in the states.
So glad I've watched this video, thanks for putting it together. I've been looking for a good silver to paint an engine on a Suzuki Katana and the Super Silver looks to be the go. Plus this paint manufacturer is only an hour from home.
It may be more work initially but you might try the poly sheet in the 4' X 8' sheets available at your local Home depot. It's less than 1/8 in thick and you can get a lot of small pieces for around $30 per 4X8 sheet. it cuts easily with a regular utility knife or medium duty utility scissors. probably cheaper in the long run too. one purchase and you have test strips for a very long time to come, with a little time invested in cutting it to your desired size, and useful for larger or smaller projects as well...
Do you know what store section those are located? Want to check that out.
I love SMS paint so easy to use and have some amazing colours. But the thing I love most is they are 100% Australian made
One of the reasons I enjoy the channel is you use a lot of paints I've never heard of, but I'm coming at it from a miniature painter side as opposed to a Gundam or other larger model hobbiest.
Uhg thank you for this video, I used gold over their jet black and it came out great but not the shade I wanted. Now that Inca gold is what I want, and now I know which silver I like, much appreciated
I hope all of you are having a great day.
Thanks for doing this long awaited review. I've found their range to be overall really good and well supported by Scott at SMS. Looking forward to how you think of the others, color shifts, pearls etc. I'm a great fan of the Super silver which is great for car engines, especially with a bit of weathering.. very realistic. The Advance range of brushables is also really good. Congrats to you also Frankie. If you liked the SMS range, I'm sure you will also like the Zurc paints I have emailed you about. I think they are even better than the SMS . Cheers Robert
Congrats Frankie. Nice airbrush you are getting.
Congratulations Franky!!!
I have used a lot of lacquers but these SMS ones are the best I have bought.
Congratulations Frankie! Still loving your videos Rex!
I wonder if the spoons would work better if wiped with alcohol? Not sure. Anyway, thanks for the video! Can't wait to see more from this line
Good looking paints there now.
Sir,
Great videos. Quick question if I may? Are there any paints designed to air brush on cast iron by chance, or could you recommend how to or do a video on how to air brush cast iron? ie: cast iron benches?
Thanks!
@Barbatos Rex would it be possible to get a jpeg file or something of the mecha empire emblem? I want to make a stencil for it to paint on a motorcycle helmet.
congrats to the winner!🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for sharing.
That gun metal is so much better than the ALCLAD Gunmetal. I wish i could order them in sets instead of individually though.
Love your videos mate - what kind of compressor do you run? I'm currently using a really old one and looking to upgrade, preferably to something that doesn't run constantly, but shuts off when the tank is at the right pressure for delivery.
Congratulations to the winner
Congrats Frankie T!..
Going to try alclad, spaz and sms black backer and black glass
Very nice paints
Gratz Frankie.
Congradulations!! Franckie T!!! Nice Airbrush!!
Congratulations Frankie.
I've been a fan since I started watching about over I want to say a year ago since I had my stroke and I'm trying to find something new to do for a hobby and you got me inspired to be that stuff how do I go about entering your contests
have you tried rust-oleum brush on paint like by the quart etc. to see if they are good for air brushing or even brushing on models ??
Congratulations frankie 👍🏻
Congrats Frankie.
Did I miss the Brass? Always looking for a good polished brass for my fire apparatus modeler.
Hi buddy I’ve learned everything I know about airbrushing from this channel over the last 2 months by just replaying your vids everyday for the last 2 months and taking everything in while I built my airbrushing kit up and when I picked the gun up for the first time it and did my morestorm iron man mk46 3days ago and to say I was genuinely shocked how good it turned out is an understatement… I feel like Pablo Picasso and feels like I’ve been doin this for years 😂🤣 and it’s all because I’ve studied all the different paints you have sprayed and how they work and the airbrushing technique you use… so just it goes to show anyone can do it by just spending abit of time and taking everything that you say in your vids and buying the right materials thanks again bud ✌️😎
That's fantastic my friend. I tell everyone that it's not that hard at all. My biggest thing when starting out was thinking about cleaning the airbrush, but now I actually enjoy it. The results you get from airbrushing are so great it's all worth it. The cost and the time mean nothing withbthe joy it brings. Thank you for the kind words. That Iron Man kit is great to by the way. Show me your work
Got my spaz stix candy apple red got to read the bottle and now I am ordering the black backer and holographic
That Sparmax Flyer is very interesting. The whole disassembling and cleaning aspect of a regular airbrush has been the part I've agonized about. I bought an Iwata Revolution as my first airbrush because I had friends telling me to not go for the CS right off the bat, too expensive. I haven't used it yet, I'm still setting up my painting area, but I dread it when the days comes to throroughly take it apart and clean it, especially because you don't want to mess up the needle. So that Sparmax looks very appealing, but you only used it for the primer, not the rest of the painting. Have you tried it with regular paint? I can't recall if you mentioned that. Or if there's certain types of paints that maybe you wouldn't recommend using it with?
Not sure the large fakes are something I would ever want but good to know.
Where can i get the paint mixer that you have?
Do you think alclad aqua gloss would work over the Inca gold?
That sprayer is really weird! Bet it would take a LOT of getting used too! The spoons are likely made with a release agent in the plastic pellets it is made from. Maybe sheet plastics cut into pieces would work better. cost more for sure, but durability, in my case, not that important. just thoughts
Hey you might know. I have the pre con boy 289 and I need some new needles. .03 needles. I usually go to spray gunner but they have been out for a few weeks now. You know anywhere els I could go?
nice metal paint
gratz frankie
Congrats Frankie T!!!. let us know how you like the Airbrush.
Nice paint, but can't see using that many needles for different type of flakes and colors.
Awesome review! I specially liked the look of the gold and cooper! congratulations to the winner!
Copper joy cooper
Where did you get the smaller bottles from? USA Gundam Store doesn't carry them and all the websites that I found are overseas and can't ship to the States.
I got them directly from SMS in Australia. They ship to the US and it's reasonable and pretty quick
Great video
What do you recommend as a starter airbrush
In the description of this video is a link to the Badger Patriot 105. That's the airbrush I recommend
Comparison to Alclad?
Sms has brush able what😮😮😮😮
Do you know how to make metallic hot pink?
Can't wait till I can save up enough $$ so I can buy some of your paints. (Not because of price) because I'm broke lol
Question to really any who can help, I don't know if I'm not doing something right when it comes to SMS paints, but I'm going through a bottle after about 80 small HG scale parts, German Grey over Grey primer, .35mm Iwata HPCS, at the recommended 12~15 PSI and doing maybe... two coats each part. Does that sound about right or do I need to change something I'm doing?
I haven't used them for an extended period of time but I did notice it takes a bit more paint than usual to get a good coating.
How heavy are you applying the paint? With SMS, the key to a good finish and not using a lot of paint, is to apply in light coats and build it up. Too often modellers tend to go for the 'one coat' method of going on heavy to get instant coverage, if you apply a first coat light, then a second slightly heavier you should be able to get good coverage without wasting excess paint.
Distance also plays a part in how much paint is used as well. The further away you spray, the wider the spray pattern will be at the actual part. So if you are spraying 10 cm away, your spray pattern is going to be around 5-8cm in diameter depending on the nozzle set up and if the piece is physically smaller than that, you are going to end up losing a lot of paint to the air rather than going on the piece. So in reality, you could possible be only getting 1/3rd of the paint on the model and the rest is lost to overspray. Make sure to get in closer with the airbrush, I tend to spray at around 5 or 6cm away and use minimal paint. The darker the paint, the less you need - so German Grey should only need a little amount to get coverage.
Hope that helps!
Zup thanks for the video
Can you add Createx 4030 to improve adhesion?
Not sure if they're compatible, one is a solvent and the other is an acrylic. I'll have to test it
I wanted to be #99. Love these paints.
How good is splash paint
It's very good but is a 3 step paint. It's basically only for car models. It requires a primer, then the paint and then a clear coat
@@barbatosrex9473 ok ty
Right now I'm looking at the SMS Brand
I dolike the SMS metallic paints. I have a couple os JG Ball sets that I painted one in a metallic blue and the other I used the SMS Brass. So I have blue balls and brass balls. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Congratulations Frankie
