Something that wasn't addressed is you MUST bring the charging unit and batteries indoors to charge during the winter months. Because if left out in a cold garage sure they'll charge but you'll use them up 2x as fast. I was looking at this very snow blower and almost had my finger on the trigger. Until i read about the battery charging issues. So instead i bought a Toro Power Clear 821 QZE and LOVE IT...!!! You just can't beat gas power. I know electric is becoming the thing of the future but we are CLEARLY not there yet when it comes to sustainable power for long periods and overall reliability.
Ok. Video owner here with an update. I’ve had this machine for over a year now. I’m happy with its overall performance with a typical snowstorm. We even had a heavy dump this week and it impressed me with its power. As long as the chute isn’t clogged and the snow isn’t mainly slush, it does throw snow quite well. I found that spraying WD40 down the chute and coating the blades seemed to help also. A pricey snowblower. But the reassurance of battery power and an immediate start up is nice.
I bought this model a year ago and was having to remove snow from chute getting clogged up on wet snow constantly. Went to auto store and bought Turtle wax ceramic spray wax coating and sprayed entire auger and chute area and let dry for 1 day. No more sticking and snow comes out like shit through a Goose for 40 feet.
I went with the Ego 2 stage snowblower. It is a freaking beast! Like many, I was always skeptical about these electric snow blowers until two years ago my neighbor got the Ego 2 stage snowblower. I watched him clear the end of his driveway which had about 2 feet of snow from the plow and that machine went through it like butter. I was so impressed that I went out and bought one that day.
Suggestion? I have the model below yours with the rubber blade, but did a little research, try spraying your entire blade housing, especially the auger, the chute area, and infact the exterior of the blower,(easier to clean) with a ceramic car wax the day before use, or to dry, you will get that forty foot blow, in heavy wet snow, there many remedies, google them, it's what I use, one more thing, as in one of your replies, you have 21", use 11, maybe 12, no streaks, hope this helps, it's great machine 😉
I live in a heavy snow region as well. Honestly, it doesn't matter what kind of snowblower. When it gets to be that heavy wet mush, you have to do half cuts or passes at a time. Otherwise, it will get bogged down regardless of how powerful the machine is.
Not my Toro Power Clear 821 QZE. I have yet to have it bog down. And it's gone through pretty much BEYOND what it's meant for. Nothing compares to gas power sorry my friend.
Did you ever open the chute angle all the way up? That first storm, wow that was some wet ass snow lol. I find with the wetter snow keeping the chute open all the way helps with the throw distance alot and as much as possible throw straight ahead. If you get another storm like that first one can you do a video with the chute open all the way? I have a 1st gen rubber paddle one and haven't really had any issues like what I saw with this model. Been thinking about upgrading but based on your video I wouldn't waste my money. Doesn't seem like a big improvement.
Opening the chute up one more notch makes a big difference! I bought one a month ago, to provide snow service to my clients. I was really impressed overall! I'm in Vancouver, and we had some heavy snowfall but it stayed cold for a few days, and then some wet snow. I had to manage the manage the machine based on the snow!
After your first pass, you're supposed to do the consecutive ones at half width. Operator error here, I have this and it works better if you use it as stated above. You cannot go full width on each pass or it will clog, even in 2 stage blowers.
Thanks for watching and your comment. I agree. You can see around the 5:50 mark that’s pretty much what I did. Been mowing/blowing my own yard and driveway for years. I really do think much of the issue was with the wet/heaviness of that first storm.
@@FlippinTeacher Totally agree, I had a similar run with it before Christmas, the wetter vs drier! Turning the chute up the next notch, I felt it helped a bunch. Thanks for taking the time to make the video!
I just bought one love it so far but there is one flaw which I saw on a utube video the next day and the problem is the edges on both side where quickly he put on edge adjuster made for the two stage snow blower which was a lot of work so I came up with a better and easier solution I bought car door edge trim from Canadian tire and put that on have not tested it yet but pretty sure it will do the job don’t get the adhesive type so that you can easily replace it when it wears down
I live in Flint Hill Road and Torrey Road where Meijer is should I in this in the eagle power my family is in Grand Blanc they always go for the Toro or Troy-Bilt is EGO power a good brand too
Thank you! Are you considering mod'ing to add 'shoes' for easier glide? Just wondering - I'm about to buy this unit but thinking from my research to add the shoes. Thoughts?
Jeremy, I’m also in West Michigan and have been trying to decide between the single stage and two-stage Ego snow blower, based on your review, it sounds like you would go for the two stage. Is that true? And, did you keep the blower or buy something else?
If you have the money in your budget, I’d get the two stage. Although I haven’t read any reviews on it. If it’s got good reviews, go for it! I’m sticking with what I got. Sounds like we’re going to have a light winter this year anyway.
You are 100% correct. I never believe marketing. That 40 feet is based on light snow, with a fully open chute throwing snow forward. plus I willing to bet they take the furthest piece of snow they can mark and not where the bulk of the snow is actually falling. lol
I purchased this exact model in November because I was tired of maintaining the gas blower. What a mistake. It didn't snow until late January in Toronto. I got like 4 maybe 5 inches of snow. It wasn't light and fluffy, but it wasn't overly wet either. This thing was garbage. Claims to do 12 car driver way, the lights were red after barely finishing my 4 car driveway, and died 4 feet doing my patio in the back. The chute would clogg, it stalled multiple times as it just pushed the snow in front. I put car wax like some suggested. Snowed again 2 days later, max 4 inches. The chute clogging was better, the performace was still garbage. I understand you take their claims with a grain of salt, but it is no where near what they claim. I understand that single stage don't like wet snow, but the snow was not that wet. My previous gas had no issues with this type of snow. My neighbours house is a mirror of my house, and he was able to finish his house with no issues, with a Yard Machine gas single stage, he say he paid $625. This was a waste of $1200 plus tax. I've been talking to Ego to try a get them to take it back.
@@la1930 My advice, if you want a stage 1 blower, stick to gas. A neighbour a couple house down has the 2nd stage Ego and works. Mind you, he only has a four car driveway, so it is nowhere near what the blower claims it can do, so who knows if that one actually can do what it claims. He also has the Ego lawn equipment, which seems to work better then their snow blower. Their customer server was of little help. They kept insisting that the battery be emptied and recharged fully. It's not the batteries. In the spring I gave the batteries to my neighbour to use in his lawnmower and he confirmed they were good. It works, just nowhere near what it claims, and nowhere near good enough to justify the cost compared to gas models. Also, I thought it being light would be an advantage. It is actually the opposite. The gas are self propelled and because of their weight once it gets moving, momentum works in your favour. This is not self propelled so you need to do all the pushing. Because it is light, once you hit any heavy snow, this thing loses all its momentum. The only positive I can give it is that it is maintenance free. No need to worry about stale gas or oil changes. My advice if you insist or must have batteries, get the 2 stage. It might be over kill for what you need, but at this point, if you want something that will work, it is what you'll need to get. If you want a 1 stage, stick to gas. You can get a top of the line Honda or Toro for the cost of this.

For some reason that was not pay attention to what I was saying I was very tired from working all night is Ego battery power way to go or Toro Battery power

Uh. With that wet snow? A couple hours? I’d never do it. I have an AWD vehicle and would just keep driving over it. Not worth blowing out my back shoveling that mess.
The places that did not get too bare cement is because you drive on it pack it down that’s why I clear the snow before or you will have to scrape it off
