Just finished an academy here in Maine. Unlike South Metro, our academy brings together departments from throughout the state and is not full time. We learn the same skills but the efficient and standardized way they learn skills in this academy is amazing to watch. This department is truly giving the best training I've ever seen to these recruits. They will be squared away on graduation. Great work.

I finally caught up with the recent videos after getting back from a trip and I finally downloaded Pulse Point! It’s so cool to finally be able to hear and understand my local FD’s!

Seeing the differences between Germany and America is really interesting.
When in comes to the construction of houses probably 99% of the houses here in Germany are made out of some kind of brick (eg actual brick, calcium silicate brick...) or concrete. Drywall is only used, if you want to separate one room from the other after the house is build.
Our EMS-Training is also very different, even the most basic professional training (after which you are called "Rettungssanitäter which would already translate to Paramedic) takes about 3 months. But that's only the training for the driver of an ambulance, the person in charge of the patient's treatment is a Notfallsanitäter (which would be a critical care Paramedic). The training for that takes a full 3 years 😅

i cant see how that last statement he made about houses now burning faster than houses 50 years ago.. i just renovated a heritage house and you've never seen such dry wood before. not to mention, builders had no regard for fire blocking/ fire provention. and since no thought was really given to providing the house with shear strength (sinse everything was buttoned up with shiplap), id imagine ur looking at a far more dangerous kinda beast extinguishing an older house. correct me if im wrong.

So even with all the insulation and houses being more air tight today youre saying that the use of Osb has increased its flammability? I’m very interested in this. Multi family buildings have stricter codes on fire blocking they should burn slower for sure right? 100% houses burn dirtier today with all the chemicals.

No at the academy, but of course the line firefighters sleep at the stations. South Metro works a 48 on and 96 off schedule unless there has been a change.
