Gee, the VR tips the scales for me…it is outstanding with the PSVR2. The immersion on foot AND flying is unbeatable. I do like the cinematic in Starfield but the loading screens kill it for me ( reminds me of commercials which I won’t watch). The true test is replay ability and I by choice come back to NMS. ( level 105 in Starfield and don’t care to progress beyond that). BTW, you have a GREAT channel and I just subbed!

That is because they are aimed at different things. NMS like Elite suffer from lack of any sort of interaction with NPC or story, as they are sandbox using their planet tech to cover for the lack of that side.
While Starfield went the other way, adding what other games lack, but giving up on what makes these games immersive. It is normal they had to do that, otherwise you would not be able to finish the game in either case (took 8 years to NMS to get to a decent place, after being released... And Elite is basically dead after their first expansion that added planet landing; Starfield just came out)

Difficult settings exist for that reason. It's about time for NMS to have more meaningful and threatening situations. The lack of difficult, threatening battles, real menacing problems to be faced, FREIGHT BATTLES for christ sake. I love NMS, but migrated some months ago to Valheim, and probably will be back to NMS only when it gets some more mature contents. It would be extremely cool to have the need to warp to a base to fend off a pirate or sentinel attack.

no man’s sky is still an inherently boring game even after 7 years of features and additions. There are no interesting quests just a large universe sized sandbox and you can build a base and that's literally it.

    • @panzer00
      @panzer00 8 місяців тому

@tnafan Although it is unfair to compare the two, your statement is woefully ignorant.
NMS is a truly open universe with:
      Seamless exploration
Seamless combat transitions from planet to orbit to open space
Many different land and sea vehicles
      Roleplay variety
      Basic law system
      An influenceable economy
      Trade
      Pirating
      Class system
      Starship variety

      Playable alien species
      Alien languages
      Mission Board
      Expeditions
      Multitool, vehicle and starship modification
      Multitool and starship design hunting
      Atmospheric Survival
      Extreme planets
      Weather systems
      Animals
      Tameable animals
      Rideable animals
      Settlements
      Decorating
      Manufacturing
      Co-op
      PVP
      Terrain manipulation
      I could keep going.
See, No Man's Sky is a real sandbox where you make your own fun using the immense systems and mechanics provided by the game.
Starfield is a narrative driven railroad with sandbox elements and lite roleplay mechanics to distract the player and provide an illusion of freedom.
Starfield has a retarded amount of loading screens.
No Man's Sky has ONE, when hyper jumping and it doesn't load a cutscene or fade to black, you are in your ship. That is immersive.
      From Starfield's website:
"In this next generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery."

Whether a game is interesting or not really just depends on your preferred playing style. Some want to experience a thrilling and immersive story while others prefer to make up their own story, explore freely and don’t really care about quests. • @Virakotxa
      @Virakotxa 8 місяців тому

It would work great with alien language that could be even AI generated and recorded, without need for translation at all. And just do such through subtitles. Those would be just as now, decoded based on your knowledge.
And they kind of already do that, if you think about it.
The problem with adding cutscenes, other than being the cheapest storytelling device in video-games... after a wall of text, is that the engine, or maybe the resources they have, in regards to actual animations, are very limited.

You did leave out a lot of what No Man's Sky has to offer. You can be a Pirate in NMS, in fact; there was a whole update dedicated to that idea. If you choose this route however; you are now locked out of using any now pirate faction bases. If you even talk to a none pirated faction NPC; tell will call the Sentinel forces on you. There are also sides missions at Pirate owned Space Stations; as well as bounty hunts for and against pirates.
That's the thing about piracy; if you choose that life, you can never go to a normal star port, space station, or freighter group, as you will get attacked after making contact. It limits where you can go, but that's half the fun of it. Can Starfield say the same? I wouldn't know; as I haven't played it yet. My PC sucks, and can't run the game. But I have played NMS since launch, and the improvements made this game has been amazing. I also know a lot of people are upset with the fact that Starfield has no mapping system when you are in major cities, or areas the game's story take you. I don't know if you mentioned that.

    • @SpacePirateLord
      @SpacePirateLord 8 місяців тому +3

Yes, you can be a space pirate, and yes you cannot traverse near normal space while you have a bounty on you. Mind you, you can pay off the Bounty, and each one is faction specific. Like... If you start taking cargo from Freestar vessels, the UC won't care one bit, but... Prepare to not be able to go anywhere near Freestar cities til you square up the bounty. Mind you, piracy is so lucrative you easily get the creds to pay off a bounty.
There is an entire faction for pirates in Starfield, with a big main quest, as well as miscellaneous quests. There are also perks and ship parts made just for the profession. There's even a skill that makes ships far more likely to surrender to you. Also, you can board a ship once you destroy its engines. You can then kill the crew and either loot it, or take the ship for your own.
Once you join the space pirate fleet, none of the pirates are hostile to you anymore. This makes some parts of exploration easier, if the base you discover is taken over by pirates for instance. You can just walk right in, loot, and do your quest with no enemies.
Also, there is a massive space battle at the end of the pirate main quest that is really fun. Starfield did actually do a good job with ship combat and ship building and the space pirate/smuggler trade. You can also be a bounty hunter, but that's not what you were curious about.

      1. you only need forged passport and then you can go anywhere, you just need to use the galaxy map to go there and then use the forged passport at the computer very back of the space station to re-enable the ability to teleport there. one simple trick you can do is just make a small base at any galaxy you think you will often revisit, and then you can simply teleport to your base and fly to the space station to use the forged passport
      2. you can get a blueprint for a device that hides black market goods from cargo scans
      3. if you have a sentinel ship, who cares who comes after you anyway? you are basically untouchable. infra-knife accelerator with 3 black market upgrades + phase beam with the leech shields upgrade and you can't lose

    @bigkidBAM 8 місяців тому +4

Although I have yet to try out Starfield, I simply can't see it being better in MOST categories than No Man's Sky for me. Starfield looks decent from an initial standpoint, and if I would have never played NMS before maybe I would be more interested. But, from the plethora of vids and content I've watched about Starfield, it's just a more advanced Mass Effect, with more shooting and less storyline. I do have to admit, the ship building looks fantastic! But even that will get stale after progressing far enough. I may eventually try it out (when bugs are patched and it's on sale), but I also have several new games on the horizon that I suspect will take my time and energy.
For me, personally, NMS is something in a genre all to itself. I luckily didn't play it when it came out, but I know all about the dismal release stigma surrounding it. However, having finally picked it up a few years ago, and seeing the changes since even then, it really is in a class of its own. It's so Zen and satisfying, even after hundreds upon hundreds of hours. I recently started a brand new playthrough and spend even more time now simply exploring and building bases. I just found a low-grav Dissonant moon to build a new base on for echo and inverted mirror farming (making a vid for my channel ASAP about that to be my first entry). I can play for 30 minutes a day or 13 hours. If I get tired of grinding for a specific interceptor ship or multi-tool or whatever, I can simply grab some missions at the Anomaly and do those for hot minute.
Yes, Starfield can SEEM to have a lot of content. And, to be fair, it does have quite a bit compared to any other similar game (except maybe Cyberpunk). But eventually you'll run out. NMS will NEVER run out of content. Some of it can be similar, yes, but then you can simply change your gameplay style and mix things up just for giggles! Delete your base on 1 world that you thought was amazing after you find a new one even better, and build from scratch! Invite strangers in to help you build an entire city at your base. Turn pirate and attack civilian fleets constantly. Go on a nanite kick for weeks on end by surveying every creature on every planet you travel to. Find a companion and genetically modify it for generations. Unlock every single crafting part in the game by farming for buried modules. And, almost like clockwork, by the time you feel like you've done everything, a new major update drops and Hello Games adds an epic $#%@-ton of new content!
TL;DR - yes, Starfield, I'm sure, is still very good. But, as the OP mentioned in the vid, a team of hundreds compared to a team of roughly 50 that have done nothing for over a decade than build this universe of No Man's Sky. There's a REASON No Man's Sky is still in contention with other AAA games being release nowadays. Not many games, if any, can say that. I'm sorry to say, but I don't see Starfield hype lasting much longer than any other initial big release. A year or two, tops.

Personally, i say Starfield. I liked the actual dialogue in game, a real story about us collecting alien artifacts that ends up getting us dragged into a conflict with inter-dimensional travelers, ship building, ground combat is actually fun unlike NMS which is under utilized.
Both are proceedurally generated, but i feel like Starfield has more uniqueness for every planet. It’s like planets with some sort of flora or anything other than barren rock has it’s own textures and creatures, and the game just automatically lays it out. Ship combat is also better imo. Call me a shill for Starfield if you want, but i honestly feel like it’s better than NMS in almost every way. Ship combat in NMS is annoying for me. I turn around slowly, and by the time i’ve got the enemy in my sights they fly right past me. In Starfield if you level up the piloting skill, you turn around and maneuver way better.
Also, this is made by Bethesda, and takes many of the elements from previous games, especially Fallout 4 and Skyrim. And i am an absolute Bethesda fanboy. I hated Fallout 76 but i believe Starfield, while not Bethesda’s best (they could do much better), it’s a return to form over their last garbage.

I got about forty hours into Starfield, & had so many "You DO plan to have space travel & exploration in your space travel & exploration game don't you?" experiences, that it dulled the fun of the graphics.
I reloaded a newly modded NMS (Just some quality of life mods, biome 'fixers' for the Rando Calrissian nature of some things...Nothing too fancy. Certainly nothing that overrides the need to get anything manually in the game.) Knowing that my end game has a VERY large garden home built to suit with many offshoot bases for auto-harvesting the necessary materials to create high end trade items. (one in particular) ...& that by THAT time? I'm literally flying almost NO where any-longer...I am wormhole teleporting from place to place to place... out of necessity... I also play hardcore. If my character dies? I'm screwed...Out time I'll never have back.. & THAT adds flavor to my games.
Once I am thoroughly "burnt" out on the concept of making a billion creds & having a super fancy home & completing the newest iterations (see what I did there?) of the newest questlines having to do with the sentinels? I'll switch back to Starfield, recreate a character, & immerse myself in the graphic chewies... It'll be great because I'll already be "Still tired" with the space exploration & travel, but still ready for a "Fallout in space" adventure...
IF I can get past their rehashed storyline... *laughs* I can't believe they decided to go with what had already been done before....SO well...

NMS has a more indepth weapon mod system than starfield, hands down. In starfield you get a RNG weapon, that unless its legendary has minimal statistics. Then you rank up so you can reasearch mods, to build mods, to add them to your gun to make them slightly different feeling, but they do look different.
In NMS you also get RNG guns from vendors and activities, but then you also get an RNG mod from a different enemy, and that mod (depending on the enemy and class of mod) can drastically change the feeling of the weapon, as well as technically change it from one type of gun to another, or adds different firing modes if you aren't replacing mods. It may not change how the gun looks, but you can feel confident that your gun is either doing more damage, has a new firing mode, etc.
Personal opinion, i think NMS combat is better. Gun mods, more enemy variants, will actively chase you down, and it gets more intense the more you fight. Again this is all personal opinions.
I also dont believe starfield is movie like, at all. There are no cinematic angles when you are talking to people, or times where they even showcase the genuinely beautiful landscapes in the game. Its always a close up shot on a person, and its usually bugged out with the camera being dragged around as the NPC you're talking to walks around while trying to talk to you. If you want cinematic immersive gameplay, play Cyberpunk 2077, cause starfield hands down aint it.
Also the quests sucked hard. All of them were boring and predictable, especially the main quest line. Again, this is all MY OPINION.

I think there is an answer to almost all of Starfields questions in No Mans Sky besides the nice handcrafted rpg elements. The two biggest ones, ship hunting and being a pirate. You may not be able to customize your ship, but the endless amount of 8 types of procedurally generated ships with RNG based elements could be considered better, by allowing for more exploration across galaxies. We may not be able to board ships and become a well-known outlaw, but we still get pirate systems with pirate space stations, smuggling missions, our own squadron, and a few pirate cosmetics.

NMS leans into the fact it’s not realistic consistently and nails it. Colorful biomes, cool looking and sometimes huge animals. All manner of strange creatures that don’t even resemble animals at all.
Oceans, lakes, volcanoes and the ability to dig into the soil and find caverns. Technology is futuristic and some of it is totally alien. Huge variety of ship styles and freighters actually feel like a base. Grinding is an option but it doesn’t feel necessary.
Starfield leans into the realism of SciFi often at the expense of fun and ends up feeling bland. No sentient alien races, planets look and feel too similar. The biomes of habitable planets do not even come close to the kind of biodiversity we have on Earth, let alone anything more creative than that.
Technology is very inconsistent. Star maps but no city maps. Spaceships but no land vehicles. In-ear comms and interspace comms for a couple missions and RNG events but totally absent every other time where you play messenger. Ship builder but can’t swap parts between ships. Lots of guns, grenades and knives but no dismemberment or space suit leaks.
Major XP/skill system imbalance mandates hundreds of hours to experience full range of gameplay options making grinding necessary or deal with FOMO or tedium. Your choices have consequences except when that choice is to kill a character only to find out they are immortal, again and again and again.
NMS feels like you are playing a video game about survival and exploration in a fun arcade style whose mechanics often have a surprising amount of breadth and a barebones story that exists simply to justify a sandbox and does it well.
Starfield feels like you’re getting immersed in that world except you are regularly pulled out by the logical inconsistencies, loading screens and artificial nature of things. But you love space and the potential of what could be an incredible game so you keep playing along trying to immerse yourself in the many quests and fun shipbuilding no matter how many times you get yanked out.
Eventually you’ll start wishing they spent less time rendering details on sandwiches and resources and focused more on better enemy AI or actually delivering on hyped up locations like the run on the Red Mile or taking more advantage of zero-g combat missions.
Starfield has a bit of an identity crisis. It’s gameplay is pure looter shooter with an RPG skin, because the only role you’ll be playing is essentially a good space vigilante or a good sarcastic space vigilante. Faction missions do broaden that a bit and along with ship building are the saving grace of Starfield. Enjoyed most when played as a linear series of quests.
NMS knows what it is and delivers, a bright space exploration survival game with arcadey combat and a wide variety of activities to fill out the sandbox.
Manage your expectations, play both for what they are and you will have fun.

Hey man, bit of a random one here: would you be interested in providing gameplay clips for a NMS video on the channel? (Paid of course!) Just looking back through old comments to find people who clearly know the game well!

I like NMS. It has almost everything right, but one thing: purpose.
As in, you can explore, but what do you explore? There are no mysteries. Planets are huge, but the ruins of ancient civilizations and crashed freighters are basically the same on any planet.
There is combat, but why? You can’t conquer a solar system or a planet. There is no immediate danger of anything but storms on very active planets. There might be a huge fish or eye underwater that will attack you out of nowhere, but it won’t necessarily kill you. It feels so lonely…
You can hunt to collect ships and pets, but they are basically the same everywhere.
Now, I’m just starting with Starfield and I can see where it fails. I hate loading screens just as much as anyone else out there. But if it was a multiplayer game, it would be so much different. Let’s hope upcoming updates make the experience much more complete.

As a sci fi fan I am biased towards sci fi games and I do play Starfield, but it feels restricted, like it's missing gameplay. Like being the bad guy. You can join the Crimson Fleet and be a pirate, but the game makes you more of a anti-hero then a villain.

What's also big is the fact that the procedural generation in No Man's Sky is saved somewhat. Most of the time, it saves a good chunk of a world that you have been to and then generates stuff around it you haven't been to. But going to the same place all the time, has the same chunk, but the area around it will be different every time. Not like Starfield that is completely different every time you go to an area

Starfield very fun game and all. But I think no mans sky just offers way more. Is more fun and just overall at this stage is wayyy more refined
Starfield ain't refined at all. And for the pricing is starfield wayyy to expensive

NMS has ground, water and mech vehicles. It also has in planetary flight, terraforming, wingman and Freighter fleets. Starfield can’t compete, except maybe for the inevitable naked Sara Mod.

If Starfield had the space travel of no man’s sky it would be so goated. Sadly it’s extremely hard to beat no man’s sky despite the the better story and combat. That space travel is the most desired feature of space games.

Don't forget the awsome No Man's Sky community, almost everyone is helpfull, there is little to no toxicity. I have been playing for years and only once I was attacked by another random player. You can turn PvP off in the settings. And people gift you random valuable stuff in the Anomaly. All in all NMS is a great game and a great redemtion story for a studio.

Starfield was made by a team of over 900 people and giant corporate investors, No Mans Sky was made by a team of 15 and a director that even sold his own house to pay to make the game, yet No Mans Sky is still being compared to Starfield 7 years after release lol I know which game I'm rooting for...

Can you explore/analyze a planet in starfield without landing on it? Like can you scan it from your ship and figure out if it’s worth landing on it? Because that would minimize the amount of time needed to simply jump to the planets that are actually interesting or useful.

It is unfair to compare No Man Sky at its current version vs Starfield. Lot of you may (or try to) forget that No Man Sky was launched in such a poor condition that Sony had to delist it temporarily (of cause the other game with such "honor" was Cyberpunk). NMS had gone thru many many patches & update before reach its current state.

NMS has gotten to the point where it's exceeded the original E3 trailers and eclipsed the original hype. The amount of work it takes to pull a 180 like that when looking at the game at release is unbelievable. It's the kind of dedication you'll never see at Bethesda. Never. They don't have the talent or the grit or a soul.

Nine years. That's how long NMS has been out. In nine years this game has seen plenty of patches and updates to address its many problems. Nowadays it's running and looking far better than it did on its initial launch. Comparing NMS to Starfield is really premature seeing as to the fact that Starfield hasn't been out for even six months yet. In nine years and plenty of patches, updates, and DLC I seriously doubt any of us would even recognize this game at its base core anymore. Remember, Bethesda plans for this game to be a generational game and I for one expect huge updates that may rnd up leaving No Man's Sky in the dust.

I've never played Starfield, but admittedly the combat seems like it would be much better than NMS. That said, some of your criticisms of NMS combat aren't really founded. The multi-tool weapon upgrades allow for plenty of weapon fine-tuning. You can combine different weapons into one multi-tool and install upgrades to fine-tune how those weapons perform. You can then start to build a collection of multi-tools (up to six), each with two or three weapons installed and upgraded on them. So there are about 10 multi-tool weapons (including secondaries) and a player can hold all of them on their person and equip them to multi-tools that match the aesthetic they prefer.

The fun part is in your first 10 seconds of the video: They are not in direct competition as NMS is a indie survival game where there is virtually no RPG elements and everything is hinged on the procedural planet tech; while Starfield is a RPG game with some elements of space games. If you want to compare games, at least compare things that are comparable, like Mass Effect and Starfield.
Comparing Starfield to Elite, NMS or Star Citizen is as useful as compare a toaster to a blender.

One thing about No Man's Sky, leave a planet and then return to where you already landed: Same Area.
Starfield, leave and return to the same area: Completely randomized location baring story location spawned upon landing... was in city, moves a half a degree outside of where I was and saw forests beyond map edge for Starfield, landed there, Moon Crag zone with no sign of city... despite half the map having the same coordinates on the same planet as city I had been in 5 minutes prior...
