    i have a harbor freight hercules and it’s perfect for my handy man projects. occasional use and lasts for years. no need for a high end when it’s just a home owner. it’s mounted on a ridged rolling miter saw sand. bought new for $160 and the saw for $316 as a member and on sale. a bargain.

    Tips.
    Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)!
    Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a vertical line above the saw blade.
    Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt.
    Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing .
    And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft.
    It is very important that everything is aligned.
    Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade.
    Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / HITACHI C12RSH2 / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact
    (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails).
    If you want you can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing.
    Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick. To this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw.
    Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine.
    Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing.
    Step-4. therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned vertical in line above the saw blade.
    ..
    Conclusion: how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing.

    Several professionals are saying the Bosch for angle cuts is the worst, piece of junk.. the best for the money is the Metabo 12 slide, and the Dewalt 12 inch slide.. period!

    I was hoping for a reviews clip not a trade show ad campaign but while I'm here I'll say I bought the Bosch 10" and really liked the axial glide. What I didn't like was Bosch's response to a defective part. I was promised by the sales rep that he would send out the part but over 3 months and several excuses later I still couldn't tilt the saw to the right so I took it back and bought the Makita. No more Bosch...excuses don't get the job done.

    Hands down no questions asked... Festool. I have owned saws by most maunfacturers and even though most are very good and do what they should do, NON of them are anywhere near as good as the Festool. Yes they are probably double the price of most of the other saws shown but, the build quality and precision of your finish work makes it worth while. Also the extraction is far more supreme than any other machine Ive used.

    30 years in finish carpentry and cabinet making and I still hate sliding mitre saws. A simple 12" old school dewalt will cover 95% of tasks and is easier to transport to jobsites. A slider is great for shelving or skirt boards, but otherwise bulky, obviously has more moving parts to fail and a pain to transport. An accurate 10" mitre saw is good for most projects and for the "DIY" crowd, spend your money on a table saw and build a nice outfeed table. And,,, never use the "crown" settings on a mitre saw, cope crown or "think" you have mastered any tools. I used a tablesaw since I was 10 and it took me 40 years to respect it. Hopefully,, a thumb later, this will help someone. That "rage" saw did crack me up. It does everything, but nothing well, like many contractors. Last bit of advice,,,, NEVER hire a person that does roofing, siding, concrete, framing, trim, carpet and painting,,, they won't be good at any of them.

    Bunch of ads; no real "meat."
    Every saw has pluses and, minuses.
    Use a cheap sliding miter saw (a la Harbor Freight) for cutting framing; a better one (DeWalt/Bosch) for finish.
    Actually, the Harbor Freight saw works good for trim, also. You just don't feel as bad about it if you fu*k it up for some reason.
    The Hitachi used to be the gold standard for sliding miter saws, but they've kind of been left in the dust by newer improvements. And their miter scale is still hard to read.

    • @tribulationprepper787
      @tribulationprepper787 5 років тому +1

      Jack, It's a sliding miter saw safety issue. You have a blade that is rolling toward you at 1000's of RPM. Pushing the saw away from you while cutting HELPS to control "runaway".

    • @jackriley5974
      @jackriley5974 5 років тому

      @@tribulationprepper787 Sounds like a design error to me?? In 1970, while working on the "boy's school" where Tyson learned to box, The GC from NYC supplied us with B&D radial arm saws. The arm consisted of a 2 1/2" thin wall tube indented on both sides to carry the motor/blade. After several of them nearly gutted carpenters when they came apart, they were replaced. So, I understand the principal for concern, but times have changed, design has improved, and one has to be totally ignorant to misuse a miter saw. I just can't see cutting trim using that method??

    My shop saw has been sitting in the exact same spot for at least 6 years - its the 12 inch sliding Milwaukee and I like it very much though it does take up too much space but it's very accurate and has lots of power but there are some minor short comings that I can usually overlook but not always - would I buy another or switch out with another brand? Perhaps if Milwaukee improves with their next model I'd buy it when I'm at the point that I need a new saw - if not, I may or may not buy something else as I'm already past retirement age so why bother? My portable saw for placing into the back of my truck is a small 8 inch Hitachi, it's easy to lift cuts well and is accurate, the only thing about the saw that I really don't like is the start up which really is quite explosive if you're new to using the saw but you'll get used to the lack of a soft start - eventually. Over the years I've owned several saws and I've come to the conclusion that every saw has good points and bad and I for one will never be completely satisfied with any saw although if one tries enough of them sooner or later you'll find one that doesn't piss you off so much. I know a lot of craftsmen and what I'm seeing right now is a lot of DeWalt's at job sites which to me would seem to indicate the saw is a good one though not having actually tired one I cannot say anything about it except it ought to be easy to find in the dark. I'd like to add; I like the way the Bosch saw's arm works though I'm afraid that smoothness one gets to feel on the showroom floor would quickly bog down once one starts cutting pine or some other soft sappy lumber. Now, there's now way on Earth that I'd invest over a thousand dollars for a saw that's limited to a 10 inch blade - I may of course be wrong about the capacity of the Festool and they do make tools that I own and like very much but I also don't like the look of the Kapex; It just doesn't have the look of a real man's tool and I am after all - yes I admit it - too old to like seeing women on the job site, except as flag girls or having a woman flying our Fighter Jets or serving in combat MOS's no matter what the job, so I'll never buy a Festool kapex and there's no way anyone can convince me a saw that has one single unique design feature should cost twice as much as every other brand, after all, all sliding tilting miter saws do the same thing - some better than others but is one so much better to warrant getting taken for a ride?

      The harbor freight saw works like the DeWalt and Makita. Just over $100. Have I answered your question?

      Central Machinery?? i wouldn't trust that thing for straight cuts further than i could throw it. The hercules one looks pretty solid, though.

      All miter saws "work." We want something that works quality. Their economy lines like the Chicago Electric or Central Machine "work." The Hercules is getting solid reviews. The price dropped a hundred and the 90 warranty is now a one year guarantee. I expect I'll be buying one.

      Cheers for the Video! Excuse me for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about - Schallingora Dexterous Programme Scheme (should be on google have a look)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for taking a drawing and turning it into wood minus the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my close friend Aubrey got great results with it.
